Quality, high effort post.

Let's talk about Blade Runner instead. Do you consider it to be cyberpunk or biopunk? Would you rather be pedantic and specify it is not cyberpunk, but neo-noir?

But Gibson is considered the father of the genre, and yet Neuromancer came out two years after it (given, apparently Gibson had it written long before, but upon seeing the movie, he was afraid of being called a plagiarist, so he had to rewrite a lot of it).

With the amount of tech involved, it could clearly be called high-tech-low-life since the underworld with all of its inhabitants is a central part of the story and setting.

The new one has the tech, but imo lacks the "low life" aspect in favor of an "escape the corporate overreach" theme

Gibson is more known for the hacking lingo and culture. Blade Runner, which was inspired by Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" added the aesthetics and moral questions relating to androids, the cost of technological progress in terms of environmental degradation and the dangers of capitalism to both humans and nature.

Do you remember where KD6-3.7 (Joe) lived? Would you want to live with his neighbors?

Clearly cyberpunk, in fact i always thought the replicants were androids, robots.

There's not enough biopunk stuff out there and in any case they should go hand in hand, it's not like in the future we would have made progress in just one area.

I can imagine a lot of competition in the future between "health" firms pushing a bio-chemical solution and others pushing an electronic one

They are bioengineered humanoids in the movies and electronic androids in DADES.
