How about we create our own SCP Foundation for cyberpunk short stories or mysterious objects appearing in various places due to a spacetime leak in a dimension which looks like William Gibson's 80s cyberpunk world and also like those cyberpunk anime from the 80s and 90s?

SCP works because most of the shit is basically magic. It has a broader possible range as a cyberpunk equivalent would mostly just boil down to "the advanced tech did it" or "they were in a computer all along."

What if the latter concept was the entire point?

There are quite a few hypotheses in actual philosophical circles that the world is all just a simulation. What if this "Cyberpunk SCP" was a catalogue of "glitches" in the simulation and run by an organization tasked with correcting said glitches? More mystique could be added to it by dropping hints about the "Programmers" and "Administrators" who run the simulation, who and/or what they actually are, possible threats in the form of hackers who have figured the secret out and are trying to tell everyone the 'truth'? It's basically the Matrix as a collaborative-fiction project!

You could do the wh40k thing and focus on fucked up stuff not magic.

Most of the ideas are used up of course but crazy feasible tech is doable. Mix in a bit of reality and you have a stew.

Like say a rogue game AI that runs a server like a dungeon and hands out however real rewards in form of brouzouf on your bank account or a hitman order if you die in it's game.

Me likey. SCP meets the Matrix.

An interesting concept would be that, since the world is a simulation, certain SCPs could boot you out, transfer you to a punishing sim, or glitch you up.

There are a plenty real websites running as testing grounds for hacking at various difficulties. SCP uses fictional stuff but here you could use real websites and make them the target of your lore. So you wouldn't provide just fiction but an actual collection of real stuff people could visit and challenge with some creepypasta arround it.

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS CLASSIFIED BY THE ADSCENSIO RESEARCH CORPORATION. UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS WILL LEAD TO PROSECUTION.

Name: Interdimensional Relay

Hazard Level: 0

Physical Features: The Interdimensional Relay (IDR) and all variants come in the constant form of a computer-esque machine on some kind of metal lectern. It has a screen which comes in at a size of approximately 11 x 7 inches. The lectern, standing at 46 inches has been observed to be made of a metal with similar properties to aluminium. Although it shares several properties with metal it is slightly different, as it has been concluded that the metal cannot experience corrosion. The computer screen is also accompanied by a small keyboard with keys matching the QWERTY layout.

Behaviour/Traits: Upon activating the IDR, the user will be shown a text saying “Welcome to the Interdimensional Relay, you are currently linked with Dimension X” where X is a number that varies from unit to unit but as of yet always stays the same on a given variant. Below that, text can be seen saying “You are communicating from: Dimension 943”. The user will then be directed to some form of chatroom, similar to an IRC chat, where they can communicate with whoever may be on the other end. Depending on the IDR version accessed, the person who the user talks to will vary, but they will always be from a world similar to ours, but with a couple major differences. Examples include:

-Valerius, who lives in a timeline in which the Roman Empire never fell, and now rules over the planet known as ‘Terra’.

-Cassandra, whose world shows a bleak future of our own, where the planet has been devastated by thermonuclear war.

-Arthur, who lives in a time not far from our own, where humans and androids coexist, and live as equals.

Origin: The first IDR unit was unearthed on [REDACTED], when during the construction of foundations for a new apartment building, a small underground chamber was discovered. In the center of this chamber was the IDR. Only 2.5 months after the first discovery, two more units were found, the third being revealed by the ARC itself. Over time they were being found all across the country, and eventually the globe. Working in conjunction with the State, the ARC was given the right to all IDR variants that were found on American soil. Although, due to the limited power of the government in regards to overseas affairs, units found on foreign land could not be forcibly taken by the ARC.

I've been thinking up a cyberpunk tabletop RPG for some time, and it's full of technological and biological anomalies that can be explained through mundane means, but the exact cause, or purpose of them is hard to discern. Some can also be taking a step further into their weirdness, and make them borderline paranormal phenomena.

LOVELINK

Some underground circles have started to distribute these small devices, often decorated with cutesy motifs, composed of two female NDTP (Neural Data Transmission Protocol, or the brain-machine equivalent of our modern USB) ports and a switch. Despite recent warnings about its safety from the media and sanitary authorities, youngsters seem to gravitate towards these lustful devices, as if entranced by the risks.

Grab your girlfriend, grab your NDTP dongle (hah). Make yourselves one with the device, and press the switch. It's been described as the most intense experience a person can ever have, more potent than the hardest drug trip, and even more pleasant than sex. Indeed, it basically consists of a "brain sex" adapter, as the LOVELINK just performs the mandatory NDTP device identification handshake between both ends (it reports itself as a device that works in "synchronous non-intrusive feedback-enabled machine" mode, for those curious about the tech behind), and then connects them both in a raw socket. Yes, it just relays your brain activity to your partner and injects them with your neural data, and viceversa, which eventually turns into a feedback loop that overwhelms both users' brains, and causes the desired effects.

Experts are unsure about the exact effects of the LOVELINK in the brain. Some argue the reports about "feeling the feels of the partner", and even "sensing what they are sensing", may be pure placebo caused by abnormal nanomachine-driven stimulation of the brain, while some argue it may indeed manage to synchronize both brains at some level, which would allow both partners to join their stream of thought in one, at least temporally. Nevertheless, users of the LOVELINK claim they are way more attached to their partners after its use, and that their life has definitely improved after these experiences. Some users even report almost spiritual or otherwordly experiences after using the LOVELINK during actual physical coitus, which in many cases causes an unhealthy addiction that often ends up in users damaging their brains through Soma (neural interface nanomachines) overload, or plain old dopamine burn out, often caused as well by drug addictions.

However, horror stories about the LOVELINK exist as well. Manufacturer (which are often just underground netmage circles) recommendations remember users to always keep a relaxed state of mind, and actively discourage its use when at least one of the partner is currently experiencing episodes of anxiety, stress or depression, as the link may not function as intended during these situations. Indeed, there exist reports of true nightmares lived through the use of LOVELINK with a less healthy state of mind: endless waking nightmares, terrifying out of body experiences, hallucinations, couples commiting suicide with their LOVELINK still connected… and, sadly, there are reports of "LOVELINK rapes", that have left both users mentally scarred (and in some cases, actually brain damaged in a single use) for life. Those who have had it better and were able to tell their experiences describe it as the worst trip they have ever had. There have been some cases of couples who describe that they experienced one of these bad trips despite both being mentally healthy and relaxed, which has caused some uneasiness in the LOVELINK users community.

<ANOMALIES

While it is well known in the LOVELINK community that the use of the device causes some permanent alterations in the brain chemistry and structure, which sometimes results in subtle personality changes, mental illnesses, and benign Soma malfunctions, some cases have surprised our researchers with apparently supernatural phenomena that defies everything known about the device and Soma nanomachines.

Despite having these cases kept in secret, some LOVELINK users have experienced severe, hard to explain anomalies during their sessions. Even though it is believed to be an urban legend in most LOVELINK communities, one couple states that they both remember going on a trip together to the forbidden and abandoned Miye City; despite being a heavily secured area, their testimonies match correctly with the archives of the Corporation, and some of the things they correctly described have been asserted to be wholly unknown to the public.

There have also been at least two reports of couples that claim they have acquired a "telepathic link" between them, and that they have essentially become one. These couples were tracked down, and promptly secured by the Corporation for further investigation. Despite not having conducted the experiments yet, researchers report both individuals do indeed talk the same words at the same time when interrogated together, and that they turn nearly cathatonic if separated from each other for too long. Preliminary brain scans show some heavy changes to the current structure of their brains, compared to their pre-Soma injection brain scans history, but further testing is required.

The Corporation has recovered the bodies of at least fourty seven couples with Stage 4 Soma Assimilation in the last year, still connected through their LOVELINKS. It is unknown whether LOVELINK was what caused Stage 4, or if it was just the last thing they did before having their brains completely eaten up by the nanomachines.

There is a known case of a LOVELINK rape performed by a Stage 4 Soma Assimilation cyberpsychopath. The full report, as well as all the recovered media from the DOT-FORCE can be found in the following link: [RESTRICTED - Level 5 Clearance or above required]

<DistantLove and DistantLove BLACK

Despite being believed to be impossible to achieve due to logical incompatibilities, the Corporation's Enchantress Division has found wild what are believed to be software versions of the LOVELINK that should allow people to emulate its functions through the net, named DistantLove by its creators. However, the website hosting the program also offered a different "professional" version, named DistantLove BLACK, which claimed to be able to automatically connect to anyone online, "without further actions required". After a quick analysis, our researchers have determined it consists of a modified version of the base DistantLove programs, packed with several exploits for most major operating systems that allowed it to run on an unsuspecting victim's machine without their consent, forcing them to connect to the desired "peer". Preliminar tests suggest that, while this seems to be indeed a software-emulated LOVELINK connection, its effects may be subtly (and worringly) different. Further testing is required. The Enchantress Division has since taken the website down, and is attempting to track down both the developers and the thirteem customers that bought the software since. While most of the customers have been successfully identified already, it is proving extremely difficult to trace the identities of the creators of the program.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCES

Even though AI technology has advanced an awful lot in the last years, it still has a long way to go to reach true strong AI status. What follows is a small, comprehensible list of the different types of artificial intelligence that can be developed.

<Isomorphic AI

Isomorphic AI are artificial intelligences that are unable to change their very programming. So to speak, they consist of a static "engine", the actual algorithms being run, that connects to a database full of samples the program has registered during their training. Upon execution, the AI downloads the necessary data from the database, and executes the same algorithm, over and over, over the received parameters and the known stored data. While these "primitive" AI can not fully adapt themselves to any given situation, and instead just adapt themselves to all the possible variations in a single given task, they are also one of the most known and widely used AI today, as their results, while limited to the single and very specific field of application each of these AI were designed for, have been battle-tested for decades. Isomorphic AI currently power some of the most important and best known human assistant services, such as Cassandra AI or AIOS, which are known to pass some of the least extensive Turing tests, as well as being capable of offering casual conversations to their users.

<Polymorphic AI

While some argue the distinction between very advanced isomorphic AI systems and polymorphic AI systems may be purely academical, most of the current research is centered in this field. Just like isomorphic AI were unable to change their algorithms, and instead just relied in their data to alter their behaviour, polymorphic AI are indeed capable of changing their own code to add more functions to themselves, which should, in time, refine their capabilities to become an "offroad" program capable of handling completely unexpected situations satisfactorily, or even perform tasks they were not designed for. Some experts speculate that, given enough time to learn, a sufficiently advanced polymorphic AI should be able to become a strong AI with actual sentience, which would transform them in Ultimate AI, but detractors compare this belief to the Infinite Monkey Theorem, and argue that, while theoretically possible, it may be just "academic brain wanking". Nevertheless, while it is considered "the future" of AI, it is still but in its infancy, and the most advanced Polymorphic AI can only solve really simple problems before being overwhelmed.

Experts further divide Polymorphic AI in two branches: Generational Polymorphic AI, which improves itself by generating an extended version of the program, runs it, and then kills the old instance; and Fluid Polymorphic AI, which is capable of modifying its own code during runtime. The Corporation managed to secure in their custody a Generational Polymorphic AI that eventually evolved into a Fluid Polymorphic AI; studies of the whole process could give some insight in the creation of a Ultimate AI.

<Full Brain Emulations

It is theoretically believed a human brain could fully run inside a computer. Theoretically, because the current processor technology could never emulate virtual versions of every single one of your average human's neurons at an acceptable speed, not to mention it is unfeasible to scan the data held by every single neuron in a reasonable timeframe and with adequate precision (Soma nanomachines require the human to be alive to learn about their brain patterns and inject themselves in the appropriate places, so all other methods are either too primitive, or too destructive), or that the human brain decays too quickly after death to be in one piece before reaching the nearest laboratory. Given the constraints, most experts agree that any attempts to do this would result in a not quite human, malfunctioning brain, that could not form a single second of a coherent thought in a whole year; due to ethical concerns, all attempts to develop Full Brain Emulations have been dropped indefinitely. All in all, it seems as if the only way to acquire one of these would be by being a heartless megacorp willing to kill a person by inducing a Stage 4 Soma infection in their brains, and dumping the gathered data in super secret exclusive megacomputer models that are decades away of everything on the market. Which is exactly what no megacorp has ever done.

<Ultimate AI

A strong, sentient AI capable of forming itself out of very limited human-introduced data and code is considered a Ultimate AI. A strong sentient AI whose runtime code is 100% composed of self-programmed functions can also be considered a different type of Ultimate AI. So to speak, it would be like coding the DNA of a brain, then making it mature with the help of a "womb program", until it is ready to start learning and developing itself on its own. Needless to say, Ultimate AI are just science fiction material. Humanity, and even megacorps, may be centuries away from achieving a true Ultimate AI.

Monad

The concept of a sentient, self aware Internet has often been thrown around in many forums for conspiracy theorists, and other assorted variants of nerds, but no expert in the field would ever admit this, unless they wanted to suicide their credibility instantly.

Improvements in the way machines communicate and interface with each other, a world where every device is always connected, changes to the very architecture of CPU to support NTDP (special mention to the Mirror Neuron Matrix Unit and the Empath Core, which are small, organic-like D-ASIC emulations of neuronal networks, in charge of attempting to interpret the brain activity of users connected through NTDP, and giving them feedback on their actions, respectively), and a lot of time in their hands, have fueled the wildest fantasies of science fiction fanatics, with the speculation of the existence of a "Digital God"; their hypothesis say that, since the amount of connections between computers in the modern world could be comparable to that of the synapses of a human brain, that now the whole Internet may be a self aware entity, growing around our planet, constantly evolving, and always one step closer to taking over the world. Some argue that the existence of some malfunctioning programs or processors may have accidentally snowballed the creation of an artificial intelligence that has slowly and silently taken over every single device in the world, as if it were an ultimate stretch of the Butterfly Effect; some argue it may have started as an experimental AI in some part of the world that escaped its confinements, and merged with the theoretical "node 0" of the Internet; some argue it just popped itself into existence, as if that had any logic.

Well, turns out it's all true, and we are lucky she is benevolent, because she is inside every device. Inside your computer. Inside your brain.

It would be cool to establish beforehand what kind of organization is containing all these anomalies, then call the website after it.

Someone mentioned Adscensio Corporation earlier in the thread, or Enchantress Division and/or DOT-FORCE (although I guess these are meant to be Mobile Task Forces). These could all be good names, or variations of these, like "Adscensio Conglomerate", or "Enchantress Authority", or the likes. It doesn't necessarily have to follow the SCP/RPC naming conventions, although it would be fine as well, like >>54245 suggested

just find something more descriptive than "Download", please.

What I am trying to say is, we need to answer some questions before we can decide on a proper name

>What are "we" (as in, the organization containing the anomalies)? A private corporation, a special police or paramilitary group, a government organization a la CIA…?

>Do "we" do this for The Common Good(TM), or just for profit? Maybe both?

>What are our capabilities? Do we have just dedicated hacker teams, or do we have full blown megacorp PMC equipment? Do we have Illuminati-tier unlimited resources, like the new SCP Foundation; or just barely managing to make ends meet, scraping whatever we can from our findings to help contain more anomalies, like old SCP Foundation? Maybe something inbetween?

>Do we have any secret "objectives", not necessarily related to protecting people or making money? Imagine we set up something like SCP's Gemini Project (creating a human from scratch, by combining several SCP), but more of a "this project is the very reason the organization exists" than a simple side project for the sake of science.

>Any particular theme or aesthetic? Adscensio makes me think of a Roman/Greek themed futuristic megacorp which draws from their philosophy and (obviously modernized) aesthetics; while Enchantress Division sounds like something more esoteric, heavy on spirituality, borderline creepy imagery, the kind of stuff you find in /x/ ARG, and maybe even slightly medieval.

>What is the tech level of the world? A super advanced AI wouldn't be out of place if we had, say, the Halo universe's tech levels, but it would be if we had one-day-into-the-future tech levels.

Obviously, if it is supposed to be futuristic (and I hope it is), we can decide on different breakthroughs later on (say, we have nanomachines and implants, but cold fusion is still "50 years in the future") to allow more leeway into how futuristic the world is, while still leaving some room to allow for out-of-place tech anomalies. We may also have "vintage" anomalies, a la "Explained" SCO articles, for anomalies that have been in the database for long, and are already studied and somewhat understood (despite being obviously too advanced for their time).

>What kind of anomalies do we contain?

Last one is a tricky question, because it is the one that will more heavily affect the web. It can either be:

>unexplainable paranormal stuff (like SCP. Could be explained behind the scenes as "living in a simulation", but the organization wouldn't know that for sure, or at least their employees. We will calk this "low sci-fi", like in the "low/high fantasy" dichotomy)

>advanced soft sci-fi anomalies (spacetime rifts altering the very fabric of reality)

>simulation anomalies (implies knowing we live in The Matrix, which would make this high sci-fi)

>anomalies that probably have a somewhat grounded explanation, but the researchers' tech level doesn't allow them to comprehend (think hyper advanced AI, shady untraceable websites, unknown artificial satellites, out of control automatons and nanomachines, biological anomalies, man made horrors, alien made horrors, Babilonian computer hyper viruses, The Grifter offshoots, creepy cults that maybe actually have a point, genetic experiments, serial killers several notches weirder and more mysterious than the Zodiac Killer, oddly malfunctioning devices and programs, seemingly paranormal anomalies that may actually have an explanation but is never left too clear… of course, keeping that aura of "what the fuck did we just find" mystery SCP has, otherwise they wouldn't be anomalies)

What about simple The Authority like with scp's Foundation

<special police

<just for profit? Maybe both?

<full blown megacorp PMC equipment?

<this project is the very reason the organization exists

<borderline creepy imagery

<one-day-into-the-future tech levels

<anomalies that probably have a somewhat grounded explanation

That's just my opinion, keep it grounded but sci-fi like most cyberpunk stuff, don't think the idea is to make a copy of SCP but with leather coats and neon, maybe it'd be limitng, but i think that's a good thing, scp went to shit because of a lack of limits, also the cyber diseases thread could be merged with this project easily.

I like the idea of it being a private corporation. Maybe it could have two seperate divisions. One division is purely for research purposes, and contains stuff like the IDR. The other one could be more for containing dangerous things.

As for theme/aesthetic, I'm fine with anything. I put Adscensio Corp because it sounds like something a mysterious megacorp might be called. Enchantress Division would be my second choice.

I personally would prefer the theme to be primarily based around things that are somewhat grounded in reality, such as AI, cults etc. But I also would like the occasional hint of high sci-fi, that lets people know that it's not completely tech-based, but there is some inter-dimensional fuckery going on.

>What are "we"?

I'd rather have a private corporation, or a conglomerate, but I think a singular independent corporation would be cool. That said, I am not sure if this should be a subsidiary of a bigger megacorp not related to anomalies, or an entire corporation dedicated to anomalies.

>Do "we" do this for The Common Good(TM), or just for profit? Maybe both?

I think both would make sense. I mean, it's the cyberpunk world, so just-for-profit would make sense, but then we wouldn't be able to contain stuff that later on may not be profitable (although it would be pretty funny having the suits shout on the researchers constantly for wasting brouzouf on containing "useless" stuff).

>What are our capabilities?

I always cringed hard at the amount of brouzouf the Foundation wasted on containing stuff that should have been decommisioned as soon as they found out how. So yeah, since we are talking about a cyberpunk corporation dealing with anomalous tech (may not be the only corporation or subsidiary dedicated to this, mind you), they probably have considerable resources, but far from unlimited.

>Do we have any secret "objectives", not necessarily related to protecting people or making money?

Sounds pretty cool. Some possible objectives could be:

>development of the Ultimate AI

>development or capture of the God AI (Monad?)

>taking control of the Node 0 of the Internet

>transhumanism

>development of inmortality

>alien life research

>possible research on reality bending and control

>research on the soul and other metaphysics

>Any particular theme or aesthetic?

Creepy inagery sounds cool. Creepy Greek imagery, or witch-meets-hoplite aesthetics and philosophy sound rad in paper, but I am not sure how could such a thing be pulled off. Maybe creepy marble statues everywhere?

>What is the tech level of the world?

Maybe two-days-into-the-future would be cool. Standard cyberpunk tech (implants, basic nanotech, flying drone-cars, Siri-on-steroids AI, advanced nuclear reactors, maybe even nuclear fusion, neural VR, etc), without going too far in the hard and interesting topics to avoid cockblocking would be anomalies. This would probably be advanced nanotech and advanced AI, as well as deep space stuff.

>What kind of anomalies do we contain?

I'd rather have somewhat grounded stuff. The possibilities are fairly wide with a bit of imagination, but as >>54285 said, keeping the door open for some (not many, as they need to be the weirdest anomalies on the site by far) possible glitches in the Matrix would be cool, specially if they are written as researchers trying to wrap their minds around it and attempting to give them some somewhat rational explanations.

Forgot to mention, I personally think not all articles should be about contained stuff. We may have articles on stuff we want to contain but still can't (as such, the articles are mainly about research on the subject, and reasons we want it), stuff that can't actually be contained (like the Lovelink stuff), stuff that used to be contained but was far too dangerous or expensive to keep so it was decommisioned (decommissioned anomalies shouldn't be second class articles, like in SCP), and maybe even short stories not necessarily related to anomalies. Of course, it's just an opinion, but I think this would give quite the variety to the writings on the site, while also stepping up on nonsensical SCP conventions.

The organisation will be a government organisation based on the real world R.A.W (Research and Analysis Wing) of India. It's objectives will be national security at the top and countering the current two super powers, US and China.

Here is sthe scenario:-

In the Union Territory of Chandigarh (which is a planned city built on brutalist architecture and thus perfect for a cyberpunk setting) wierd devices are appearing in random secluded places around the city due to a tear or time leak in the fabric of space and thus and thus connecting different timelines (Steinsgate).

This scenario will give the utmost creative freedom to writers since those timelines could be anything while keeping the setting grounded.

As for the name, I have decided that whatever name we will choose together, I will translate it to Sanskrit.

The "Isolate" part of the name is superb. "Download" and "Encrypt" don't make as much sense. >Lockdowns

>Not cyberpunk

They are "shut it down" protocols. That in itself sounds cyberpunk as shit. They would make sense, as standard procedure for containment of digital anomalies would be to "lockdown" the nodes connected to the anomaly (think a police cordon around the affected node), isolate the server itself, and then encrypt (airgapping would be more realistic, though) its contents so they never reach the Internet again. Lockdown and Isolate would be somewhat redundant, but you can replace Isolate with Inject.

I recall an implant in Cyberpunk 2020 that was the Lockdown Implant, which was a chip that allowed you to locate snipers, so we have precedents of the word being used in the genrr.

I would recommend against using Tox for discussing the project, or any other IM program, for the time being.

I have seen a lot of neat imageboards projects die due to going off board in their infancies. It usually occurs that a portion of the userbase discussing the project go into the chatroom, while the imageboard threads on the topic slowly lose interest due to lower activity and exchange of ideas, so many users simply forget about it. When the chatroom users stop deliberating and finally open a new thread, the idea has changed so much in the non-chatroom collaborators' absence that they start to abhor the idea, as if it was no longer their project, and so the project dies due to a lack of collaborators.

We will definitely need a chatroom in the future, but I think now is not the moment. After we get a name, an identity, an aesthetic, a purpose of being, a wiki, and two or three articles in place (sounds like a lot, but it really isn't), then that will be the moment when rapid communication will be beneficial.

>It has to be a government organisation.

Not necessarily. I get where you are coming from, but a for profit organization would fit more a cyberpunk world. Furthermore, I think a for profit organization with a deeper hidden purpose founded by an eccentric millionaire ("I want to resurrect my dead daughter through the power of AI", yadda yadda, you get the drill) would be even more mysterious than a government organization.

>In that case, How about "Shutdown" instead of "Lockdown" ?

Would be suiting, but then it would be SIE, which means nothing. But as >>54395 said, it may be too on the nose (I still like how LIE sounds, tho), and we may want to distance ourselves from SCP and its conventions. For example, I would argue their classifications system (Safe, Euclid, Keter, Thaumiel, and retarded snowflake ratings in some newer SCP) is nonsensical, as it is nondescriptive and not flexible enough for an organization that may not only just contain stuff, so I think we could distance ourselves from stuff like that. Maybe a safety rating (harmless or dangerous), a containment status (non-containable, non-contained, partially contained, contained), and maybe even a rating for the interest the organization has in it, but that's a topic for another time. The general idea is that we better not stick too much to SCP conventions; it would be better if we were our own thing and not a reskin of SCP.

>>54436

>What if we host our website on IPFS ?

Would be cool, but hosting a dynamic website on IPFS is a pain in the ass. IPFS can only act as the Model (that would be, our database) and host the code to our website, but it can't be executed, which means all the Controller/backend would be JavaScript code running in the browser, and we would still need a server to distribute the JS IPFS engine and point it to our data. This is a problem because it's "completely" incompatible with running on Tor Browser, or text-based browsers, so, while I would actually think having an optional JS layer on the website to add extra functionality (for absolute madmen who want to enable JS in Tor Browser, and possible clearnet access points), it better not depend on it, just like 8chan does.

>But if everyone would prefer just a wiki for now, I am alright with that too.

I would personally open up a WikiDot as soon as we get a name, then start developing our own systems in parallel using GitGud or something. I could write the backend, depending on what kind of language you want to use. I would be very in if you decided to run the backend in NodeJS, because, as ashamed I am to admit it, I am somehow a JavaScript magician, but I can adapt to pretty much everything but PHP, Java, and C :^) given some time.

>What if we create two separate websites, one of SCP like reports and another for web-stories, like literotica (I ma talking about the format, not the content) ?

I would prefer a single website for it. Sure, two separate sections make sense, but two websites would probably be a waste of domains, not to mention a possible unnecessary separation of the userbase.

>What if we join a blockchain like LBRY ? Not only can we have distributed hosting but also a way for writers to earn and exchange talents.

I am not sure how well would sit a for-profit collaborative project around here, or the Internet in general. I am not entirely against it, but it's certainly not something we should think right now, specially knowing we don't have our own backend systems yet.

Also, completely unrelated, but I think the content should be licensed as CC-BY or more permissive. We have nothing to win from being overzealous with this, but we have a lot to win from making it free as in freedom.

It has to be a government organisation because then the motive of said organisation will be to maintain the status quo, contain as much information as possible and possibly, figure the usefulness of the devices from different timelines. Due to this, their primary task will the analyze the devices as much as possible, which in turn will give the writers a lot of freedom to create these devices and the timelines from which they leaked from.

I agree, please share some suggestions.

I agree. I don't see a role of JS in a website to read stuff and post stuff to be read by.

Yes, I and we can't really seem to think up a really rad name. Do you know Python ? I know Python but I don't know Django or Flask (frameworks used for backend web development). Just HTML, CSS and basic C++ .

>I would prefer a single website for it. Sure, two separate sections make sense, but two websites would probably be a waste of domains, not to mention a possible unnecessary separation of the userbase.

Hm, you are right. Okay let's scrap that how will we separate these two sections.

>I am not sure how well would sit a for-profit collaborative project around here, or the Internet in general. I am not entirely against it, but it's certainly not something we should think right now, specially knowing we don't have our own backend systems yet.

The thing is that LBRY is also a content hosting platform. For example on the video content platform www.lbry.io , whenever you press play, the video automattically gets downloaded and starts hosting it out of your PC since they have their own web client or Android mobile through their app. The same could be done with articles.

>a control status* containment is too linked with SCP also i think the arrogance that comes with the word control would fit more the cyberpunk theme

Good idea. It also implies we want to be able to use everything we seize to our advantage. SCP is fine with containing stuff and calling it a day, whereas we want to incorporate it to our lineup if it is remotely useful.

Another silly idea I had: SCP usually forbids or discourages cross-testing, but if we want to take over the fucking world, or whatever other megalomaniacal objective we have, we have to get our hands dirty. We should encourage cross-testing, and further experimentation on our items, to the point I think the focus of the articles should be more about expanding our knowledge on the anomaly, than silly containment procedures nobody cares about (not that we can't have them, but fuck, I don't know if it's just me, but when they start to describe fucking regular metal room in autistic detail for several paragraphs, I just end up skipping straight to the description). As such, many articles would need to be "alive". You know Danbooru's meta petition tags, such as "tag_me", or "translation_request"? If the author wants to get its article expanded by other authors, because it is considered "incomplete", it could get tagged as "further_research_requested", and could eventually be incorporated into some of the organization's projects. At some point, some articles could be considered "complete", and given a definite conclusion, either by decommissioning the anomaly (which shouldn't be considered just a resource for shittily written anomalies), or by achieving total control and exploitation of the anomaly. We could also add "future hooks" to some articles, as a lot of SCP articles have "O5 reclassification from Euclid to Keter petition pending", and it makes me really sad to see they never get reclassified, as if frozen in time, like a simple episodic cartoon for children where the status quo never changes. Basically, a push for truly collaborative writing.

>We should make a poll as soon as possible

We could post a list of the suggested names here, and then order them by our order of preference, then add up the points they get from their position, and check up which one has a bigger score. Or we could just use StrawPoll.

>>54444 (Check'd)

>It has to be a government organisation because then the motive of said organisation will be to maintain the status quo, contain as much information as possible and possibly

A private corporation could do the same as well. Knowledge they seize is knowledge their competition won't have.

>Do you know Python ?

It was my first language. Haven't touched it in years, but it was pretty similar to most scripting languages, so I am sure I could pick it up again with ease. We may also consider Go, Lua, Rust, or even Ada, for metashitposting purposes on military-grade security. I heard Elixir is also pretty gud, but I don't feel confident enough to have this be my first project in that language.

>Beaker Browser

Sounds cool at first glance, but it doesn't seem to be really popular at all. For all we know, ZeroNet may be more mature, but I need to make some deeper research into this.

This, and as you mention our organization should be more proactive, not simply secure and contain but control and use for our advantage.

>We could post a list of the suggested names here, and then order them by our order of preference, then add up the points they get from their position, and check up which one has a bigger score. Or we could just use StrawPoll.

Whatever you like i guess, my point is that no name will really sound good until it's well established so i'd advice we quickly pick one make a thread with project "name" and actually start making this thing.

>Adscensio Corporation

>Adscensio Conglomerate

>Adscensio Authority

>Enchantress Division

>Isolate, Download, Encrypt (IDE)

>Embrace, Extend, Extinguish (EEE, or 3E)

>Download, Isolate, Encrypt (DIE)

>Lockdown, Isolate, Encrypt (LIE)

>Lockdown, Inject, Encrypt (LIE)

>Shutdown, Isolate, Encrypt (SIE)

These seem to be all the names suggested so far (if I have missed one, please let me know). Given that we are just getting permutations of the IDE entry now, I guess we could just start voting with what we have now, or else this won't be done before the heat death of the universe. Our name is important, but let's not make this our version of /tech/'s logos. We may even be able to change it in the future while in our early stages, so don't sweat it too much.

Now, we need a voting method. I propose the following:

>List your 5 favourites from the list above. If you want to add a new one, please do so.

>Order them, from most favourite to least favourite

>Assign a score to each member of your list, depending on their position. Your most favourite gets a score of 5, your second most favourite a 4, and so and so all the way down to 1.

>You may decide to post a list of less than 5 entries

Example:

5. The best name

4. Also a good name

3. A decent name

2. An acceptable name

1. A tolerable name

This is mostly to avoid opening a Strawpoll, while also giving us the ability to vote several options by score, and add new options of our own, but if you prefer to use Strawpoll or a similar site, it's also fine too.

We also need a deadline. What do you think about Wednesday 13? We may also try to wait until next week, but I think that may be too much time pausing this. Your call, though.

Yes, I agree. They are devices, not creatures , so it is only realistic that they are researched thoroughly. And I agree with the rest of the paragraph too.

>We could post a list of the suggested names here, and then order them by our order of preference, then add up the points they get from their position, and check up which one has a bigger score. Or we could just use StrawPoll.

Yes, But so far we have only two good names L.I.E and D.I.E. I really want to go forward with the naming poll but we are not getting any more suggestions.

>A private corporation could do the same as well. Knowledge they seize is knowledge their competition won't have.

An attitude of indifference among the agents i important for the motive to remain "maintain the status-que" which private corporations lack due to the profit-motive.

3E is probably the most cyber, it has real-world links to something nefarious, and it sounds unique. Adscensio Corporation is decent, "Adscensio" is kind of a mid-80s idea of what a future corp would be called. Adscensio Authority makes it sound like there's such a thing as an "adscensio" and they're the authority of it. The last two are kinda meh.

Enchantress Division is a retarded name that sounds like it came from a board of weebs, which it has, but it'd be offputting to 99% of people.
