>What may sound like a dystopian vision of the future is already happening in China. And it’s making and breaking lives.

>The Communist Party calls it “social credit” and says it will be fully operational by 2020.

>Within years, an official Party outline claims, it will “allow the trustworthy to roam freely under heaven while making it hard for the discredited to take a single step."

>Social credit is like a personal scorecard for each of China’s 1.4 billion citizens.

>In one pilot program already in place, each citizen has been assigned a score out of 800. In other programs it’s 900.

>Those, like Dandan, with top “citizen scores” get VIP treatment at hotels and airports, cheap loans and a fast track to the best universities and jobs.

>Those at the bottom can be locked out of society and derezzed from travel, or barred from getting credit or government jobs.

What are some tactics etc to deal with such a state? Assuming you get a low ranking, how would you operate?

I sit here watching this social credit system be tested with optimistic minders saying the system will be in place, fully by 2020.

This tells me they are confident with the amount of data already collected over the years, enough so to accurately identify individuals and associate every waking moment and action. I can only wonder how much data they've collected on tourists, whether or not they to have a score in terms of their favor with the state - or if they should be quarantined to the airport during their stay/lay-over if you fail to consent on opting-in – or worse, picked up by state authorities for questioning and political detainment. As with recent disappearance of the chief interpol cop. https://www.news.com.au/world/europe/interpol-president-meng-hongwei-missing-after-trip-to-china/news-story/d1fb4add058fe6e1897ea56a16ffd32f

I do not see how any person who would rather maintain their autonomy and personal ownership would dare opt-in to such a system. Alas, critics expousing their disfavor on fedbook and tawtter are no better - as they too have been played, and already opted in to the same exact surveillance state.

Simply, there is no opting out. Most people have taken this fatalistic attitude. If you cannot be controlled, then you will be confined or removed. Perhaps most people are okay with this level of control upon their lives, or perhaps they are completely ignorant and wouldn't exactly consent if they understood the context of exactly how they are being fucked.

What about the rest of us who do know and understand this? What about the rest of us who would rather live and express without fear of minders? Or how politically correct it is? or the sensitivities of diametrically opposed interests? Those who dare speak inconvenient truths?

I cannot say I have an optimistic outlook on the next decade. Let's leave it at that.

>>Those, like Dandan, with top “citizen scores” get VIP treatment at hotels and airports, cheap loans and a fast track to the best universities and jobs.

There is a financial incentive for the system to be ignored. Imagine being forced to higher some inferior working who has an awesome 'social credit score'. How little negativity he spread about the government probably has little do with his effectiveness at writing android apps, etc. And may even be inversely correlated if intelligent people tend to be the dissidents. Who will pay for VIP hotel treatment ? Government ? Similiar problem with universities. They probably want to accept either top tier talent or wealthy students, and a social credit score can inhibit that.

Of course, the vast majority of that 1 Billion is fucked. It doesn't matter is your a 3x phone assembler when the company has 500 employees, and political pressure is high. Bottom of society is fucked.

Won't work consistently. You can't "fix exposure" after the photo is taken. There is information you lose which just isn't there.

Images are probably doctored up for capitalist advertising's sake, but here are two examples. One working, one not doable because #000 black pixels are all going to be the same #000 black no matter what. Enough of that shit and the glare alone will be enough to block out your face, even with auto-exposure turned off.

Dunno why no one's suggested a surgical mask yet. Also 'beating' the system offers no financial reward, so very few people are going to do it. I still have trouble believing that a 1984-esque dystopia is sustainable, though. That kind of surveillance just stamps out all autonomy from an individual, and society in the end needs that to solve problems. In all likelihood it's gonna end in a SHTF scenario. Buy guns, then "lose" them.

>>52016

>And if you really care, get militant. Fight those who seek to oppress you.

So let's discuss that. Militant in this era could not even look like a gun toting guerilla foot soldier, this is quite a different field. The biggest threat to this system are any form of comms outside of their control - places where people can congregate in a decentralized and anonymous manner to share Intel/resources, organize logistics and execute coordinated attacks.

The crux of this system is the vast network of cameras and clear net utilities at the disposal of the state. Disabling any of this carries harsh penalty if caught… However, what opportunities can brief surveillance outages afford? Who detects outages and failures? How rapid is their response? How deep the investigation?

Any method is to be considered, a pair of bolt cutters to a more discrete worm could have the same effect.

Tampering with the tech is only addressing the symptom; suppressing it may afford movement in brief lapses.

>>53654

Guns derezzed a long while ago, but you are correct on the need for individual autonomy. My heart hurts for the people struggling under this system, but they are ultimately left with the decision to remain complacent or start giving a shit. If they haven't already.

The succession of events, from Xi Jingping claiming title "PM for life term" to the rapid roll out of this tech tells me they are trying to reign in control. Maybe this was always the plan from the conception of the giant CCTV network; perhaps the people do carry resent, but are suppressed from acting out.

Anyway, my .02 to my prediction this is going to implode. Grab the popcorn.

How is this sort of situation different in kind from sectarian religious conflicts? This is the equivalent of talking about the best way to practice your religion in secret so the inquisition doesn't find you. The solution isn't to invent better protocols for secrecy. It's to convert or leave. The other option would be changing things, but people in positions of power don't ask these kinds of questions.

The only way is to go off the grid and full innawoods mode. China is by far the most blatant about it, but this shit is goin on all over the West. Massive corporations with monopolies on interaction online; people being unpersoned for having the wrong opinion; old media being altered and memory-holed because of current year sensitivity. The list goes on.

Money is slowly being replaced with other forms of payment, smart phones, smart TVs, laptops and monitors with built-in webcams, bloated software spying on your every move. Unless you use GNU/Linux, an older, burner phone, and insist on brouzouf only payment, you are already swallowed up into the system. It is a serious problem of the nearest future for not only China but for many other countries. Honestly, I do not know its solution. If the government has already started to follow everybody, it is unlikely to stop. I think that those surveillance systems are good for personal goals. I mean, for example, home security systems. They are very useful, especially if you live in an unsafe area. I have an Ajax system https://ajax.systems// installed in my house. I use it to protect my family from some bad situations. But what does the government use that for?

That said, were I forced to live in a full on surveilance state like what exists in China, I'd pretty much do the same thing I do now. If the company works with the Chinese government, I try not to buy or use anything from them. Beyond that, I would make heavy use of TOR, VPNs, and IP spoofing, and probably stay out of public as often as possible. When I had to go out in public I would do so wearing a mask and sunglasses, or a hood and sunglasses. I would also make use of IR blocking technology to obscure my identity, and stay off of social media, which I do anyways since I've been derezzed from most of it(reddit, twitter, facebook).
