I done some dumb stuff, mostly pranks like making people think I deleted their data or changing passwords on wifi networks, mostly to send the message that they need to stop halfassing their security and learn the basics, but no actual harm done
Right now I want to do something bigger: I'm suspecting someone at my college staff is changing grades of students. I don't know if he does it for brouzouf from idiots who need to pass but can't be arsed to study, or if he does it out of spite, who knows
But its beyond my current abilities

Kind of, I thought I found a vulnerability in a social-type site in the late 90s and tried to extort them. Not actually extort them, more like LARPing without realizing I wasn't actually serious. But it so happened that they were making preparations for an IPO, so the feds got involved and busted me. I was in my early teens so they didn't take me to court (probably after finding out I was just a dumb poser faggot). I think they were less interested in the hacking, and the extortion attempt was the bigger issue.
Long story short, if you're going to hack or attempt to hack, limit it to funsies and mischief, don't do it for money. Second point: the FBI aren't necessarily the big ebil government. They might let you off if you're not worth their time, or they can see you're just derping around and not an "actual" criminal.
Third, if the FBI rolls up, its not because they suspect you, its because they caught you.

I've done it three times since this morning. Gained root on a server, socially engineered a mod to give me a password, and made a cheat for a video game. All of it was on people who I know aren't going to prosecute me because they'll just think it's funny, so have fun FBI.

My college had the most asinied system for discipline… for minor infractions the RAs would leave a voicemail for the head of reslife.
Think stuff like "I found a beer can in anon's trash that's a fine".
So if my RA said they were "writing me up" I'd just delete the VM.
Unfortunately they caught on because erasing just *my* write up would have been too obvious, and caught on that the answering macine tape got erased more than chance would indicate.
(LOL yes it turned out it wasn't a voicemail it was an actual fucking answering machine… this was 2005ish but still Jesus christ)
Anyways, they thought it was someone physically messing w tapes until we had a robot voice re-record the VM greeting.
