Any word on what happened to jinteki.industries? We should probably update the board sticky. Anyways, thanks for posting anon.

No, but if they don't come back it doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to make a replacement.

Cyberpunk died when people started fetishizing dystopia. You all understand that cyberpunk is supposed to be a resistance movement, right? Now people are basically welcoming economic disparity and invasive surveillance with open arms. It's fucked.

I think there's a recognition that the real-life cyberpunk resistance against the powers-that-be isn't about squatting in dingy apartments, dressing like Molly Millions or Case, and hacking through deadly ICE with some VR cyberdeck rig.
It's really about leading low-profile normal lives, but on the side, doing Wikileaks-style dissemination of facts that fuck up the plans of the powers-that-be. The whole cyberpunk visual aesthetic is just an ironic layer on top of that.

You might find some of the commentary here of interest. I love the title, " I would've never thought that living in a cyberpunk dystopia could be so boring." It is so, so true.

I had to take it down when I started moving. As with every year, I'm out of the country for a while. I'll throw it on a VPS before I leave for good.

Thanks, that is definitely an interesting discussion. I really like the idea of stories about normal people in cyberpunk dystopias.

Has anyone here purchased and used a Wifi Pineapple? It seems quite interesting, but I'm not ready to spend brouzouf on it yet.
I'm already quite familiar with the different methods for cracking wifi, but not even close to being an expert.
Would this be a good investment or am I better off without it?

We will mirror / archive it, if it's problematic or a burden for you.

Looks good but lacks the welcoming design and descriptions that made Cyberlife accessible as a resource.
the archive is right here
https://web.archive.org/web/20140726061630/http://cyberlife.neocities.org:80/cyberpunk_books.html
so I was contemplating just mirroring it

I would like to make the design more welcoming and flesh out some of the content, as you suggest, but I still think there is a place for both sites. Cyberlife was more focused on cyberpunk as a subgenre of science fiction and Cyberpunked is more focused on cyberpunk as a subversive philosophy. When their site is back up, I would be more than happy to link to it!

There are at least a few holdout cyberpunk boards that still realize this. https://lainchan.jp/cyb/

Are you going to keep it updated? If so, you should add cyberpunked.org and lainchan.jp/cyb/. I would scan for broken links as well.

>You all understand that cyberpunk is supposed to be a resistance movement, right?
Says who?
That statement sounds very similar to "Cyberpunk is left wing because of baddie Megacorps" or "Cyberpunk is right wing because is depicts the degeneration of society" both of which aren't in the least bit true because Cyberpunk is just a science fiction sub-genre.
This is something that can actually be said with some modicum of certainty because the first uses of the word Cyberpunk were to describe books like Neuromancer. Also note the "Punk" in Cyberpunk. Punk is the word used to describe a sub-genre of rock music. Punk rock bands are usually aggressive, loud and crude but, cannot be called left wing, right wing, authoritarian or anti-authoritarian. Take for example Nazi Punks. They are right wing and authoritarian but, still Punks.
In short Cyberpunk is a literary movement, a mood, an aesthetic or even an ideal but it is not a social movement. If you want a social movement based around the technological near future you might try Transhumanism or Crypto-Anarchism. Furthermore it is not a resistance movement. To be a resistance movement would require some kind of organization or cause. Cyberpunk provides neither of these things. If you want a resistance movement you might try WikiLeaks or Anonymous.
I would actually like to live in a Cyberpunk dystopia. If I could choose a fictional universe to live in, I would probably choose the Sprawl Trilogy, SEL, Blade Runner or GitS.

We already live in the cyberpunk dystopia of SEL. (Though I'd probably dispute the "dystopia" bit, but that's another debate.)
Leaving aside all the pseudomystical stuff, the only significant difference between the real world of 1998 (when SEL was first broadcast on TV) and the fictional SEL world is that everyone (even middle-school kids) has 24/7 internet-connected gadgets that fit in a pocket, and that those devices don't require any sort of formal technical training. A big chunk of the plot is about the consequences of that capability.
Everything "realistic" about the SEL world has already come to pass.

"Anything that can be done to a rat can be done to a human being."
As technology progresses that quote only becomes more and more horrifying. I am not looking forward to the future.

I'm afraid the VPS never happened. Work was a whirlwind, and now I'm in faraway places trying to get hammered and torrent as much as I can for my next internet-free spell. Might happen in a week or two if I can free myself for a bit.

all this "synthwavecyberpunkretroeighties" music misses the point. The vocals sound shit because it is just some dude rattling off some old rubbish that would fit an EBM record.
