I'm aware this may seem like a silly question, but I'm really curious. /Cyber/, would you consider Alex Jones as a cyberpunk? Before you answer, remember that he is against the establishment, he sees most corporations and government as corrupt and evil, he takes his agenda to the net and he is quite paranoid, all the qualities that make up a cyberpunk, with aesthetics aside.

So, out of curiosity, would you say so? Also, would the same go for wistleblowers like Assange and Snowden?

I don't know too much about the guy, but I'd say so. Like a crazy cyberpunk underground newsman.

Just imagine listening to his stuff through your illegal radio transciever's earpiece while you're walking through the streets of a city or something, while thinking about the physical protections for the tech in your shithole apartment, and looking at the neon signs in the area to see if you can find a comfy bar to drink away your troubles in.

Is he a cyberpunk? No. He's a part of the backdrop. In Deus Ex, he's the crazy guy on the radios you find everywhere. In The Sprawl, he's ranting on the streets to anyone that walks by. Whatever he says is crazy, crazy as hell, and nobody would ever truly listen to him except people equally crazy - and that's a pity, because there are a few things, just a small handful, that he's absolutely right about. And each of them are drowned out by the frenzied rants about chemtrails and lizardmen.

So in a specific way, he's cyberpunk, he's just not a cyberpunk.

Just using the words you typed out. And comparing him to Assange and Snowden? Please, it's obvious you have a hard-on for this nutjob and you're looking for others to agree with you.

That anon is trolling.

Remember what your mother taught you about trolling?

Anyways, he's the old media, but he serves as an entry point. His perspective are off the axis of what we get told daily. This serves enough to get us thinking about what we see from different perspectives, but ultimately, he is only useful for that beginning point. From there, we have to take the next steps for ourselves. Not allow ourselves to be more or less guided.

That's my take. Hearing his take on the news of the day is interesting, especially when what he says makes sense. Though when it comes to technology, he doesn't really understand it very well.

Listening to Alex Jones is a guilty pleasure of mine. Unlike other conservative pundits (say, Rush Limbaugh), he's not an asshole and seems to genuinely care about US and believe stuff he says.

As for Snowden and Assange, they are really not comparable. Snowden had an extremely well paying job, a hot girlfriend and lived on Hawaii. He left it all behind to expose the surveillance state. Then, to amplify the message, he put a target on his own back. And today, freezing his ass off in Russia, he still works with a ton of journalists and NGOs to hurt global surveillance.

Assange, for comparison, is a product of the counter-culture. He has some good ideas, but they are secondary to his deep-seated disgust of the Western political culture. Note that Russian leaks rarely if ever get published on WL (and there is no shortage of those). I don't know much about Chinese leaks, but I'm pretty sure they are rarely on WL as well.

The stuff he says makes tinhat-wearing homeless guys babbling in front of the liquor store sound reasonable.

Then again, I guess his claim that atheists are trying to summon Lucifer so that they can merge with the internet and become immortal cyber demons of ultimate power (yes, that's an actual thing he said) would make a pretty cool cyberpunk story.

I just view some of his craziness as his own language to understand the world. You can compare it to the voodoo religion in the sprawl where they talk about loa and spirits. some of that crazy actually might be related to some real event even though labeling it as god is wrong. Then actually a lot of his politics is on point, even if he does go too far.

Oh please if this guy is anywhere then he's in the corporation's side. This dude knows what he is doing.

Take a short look on his store and you'll see that he's not a nutjob: He knows exactly what he is doing.

https://web.archive.org/web/20160717150747/http://store.infowars.com/Super-Male-Vitality-_p_1227.html

Just scroll down to "The Invention of Super Male Vitality"

>Super Male Vitality is the result of ancient wisdom reinterpreted over several years in the light of modern equipment and analysis.

The bullshit continues. You also can't find a quote by anyone other than Alex Jones himself, which is that 2 paragraph masturbation about how his testosterone in a bottle or whatever it is works so good.

And he repeats this again later

https://web.archive.org/web/20160721153928/http://store.infowars.com/Ancient-Defense_p_1450.html

The "ancient knowledge and modern science" shit again. You can LOOK around the website store and see this everywhere. Hell, make a drinking game out of it. What the hell are the ancient methods? The components? Because they're plants that existed for years? Is that it?

Everyone who attacks people attacks them upfront. If you go behind them and look at what they're actually doing(Int his example, selling shady shit), you'll notice that people are much easier to beat.

Alex Jones has some serious logic issues.

He starts with a reasonable idea, and goes off the rails from there.

Point A leads to point B leads to THEY'RE TRYING TO KILL US AND THEY'RE SECRET DEMONS.

He was just on Joe Rogan ranting about how the (((globalists))) to produce humanoids because even though there are "human rights movements", and "animal rights movements" there are no "humanoids rights". The (((globalists))) will then sell out the planet to aliens from another dimension.

He also routinely says unqualified b.s. like "scientists already know our brain operates in the 5th dimension". and "Half of Brazil has the brain worm that makes you basically psychotic " (which ignores that toxoplamasmosis has been described as "basically symptomless" and in no way induces psychosis, meanwhile ~23% of US has.)

They way he rants its seems like he is on large amounts of cocaine. And he adopts a bizarre combination of new age ideas like organics, supplements, and just changes (((corps))) to (((globalists))).

The only thing interesting he said is that he is tired of being known as "the sandy hook guy", and that he was "just investigating" but now believes it happened.

The word "dimension" has many dimensions. In some sense it just means "degrees of freedom", in a more vulgar sense it means "universe" or "place". Alex Jones is exploiting the equivocality of the word "dimension". To cause people to conflate a mundane list of orthoganal degrees of freedom a in some model with peoples persecption of "the 5th dimension" as semi-magical "plane of existence". He did the samething with "the brain worm that 50% of brazil has that makes you basically psychotic - its based on some defensible truth - there is a parasite, that may infect a brain, that exists but doesn't even close to make people "basically psychotic"

Alex Jones basically exaggerates everything he finds into elaborate non-sense and gets paid a ton for doing it.
