>reign in blood is a sorry excuse for 80s thrash
I've never understood all the praise for that album. Sure it's extreme, but that's just about all it has going for it. It seems like almost no effort was put into writing actual songs (see "Necrophobic"), and on top of that the bone-dry production saps the life out of it. You could just listen to Decade of Aggression and hear superior live cuts of Reign in Blood's best material.

The Yugoslav Wars are about the worst thing I can think of going on during that time, and even those were a distant concern for just about everyone outside the Balkans. Overall, it was a pretty peaceful period. Even with political correctness starting to wrap its slimy tentacles over everything, it was possibly the last "normal" time within recent memory. The Internet was still catching on with the general public, there was much more of a political consensus among ordinary people, cell phones weren't used for much other than communication, people hadn't stopped going outside, etc. In the post-9/11, Web 2.0 era, the social atomization and political tension really started to set in. The pre-9/11 era wasn't some halcyonic Golden Age or anything, but at least it wasn't full-on clown world.

What I hear from fanboys is that it's "so punk" but SOD and Carnivore did the sloppy-edgy-punky thrash way better than than reign in blood. Exodus, Testament, Sodom, early Kreator are all better than your typical big four album

This is what the 90skids really want. I just think it's kinda funny because they forget that the gulf war and recession in the early 90s are what a lot of gen Xers and boomers think of when somebody mentions the 90s

Speak English or Die in particular has some god tier riffs on it, especially considering how the album was supposed to be a joke.
>Exodus, Testament, Sodom, early Kreator are all better than your typical big four album
I don't know if I'd go that far, but Anthrax seems pretty overrated. I do like Sodom and remember The New Order being a pretty good album, but at this point I pretty much lost interest in thrash and just stick to stuff from Metallica and SLAYERRR's stuff from the '80s and early '90s.
>Eh, it's kinda annoying how the 10s-30s have become such hipster bait. See: electro swing and Great Gatsby tees.
It seems more like they're drawn to specific aspects of that period, like role playing as Louise Brooks or trying to co-opt hot jazz:
http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/music/2013/08/hot-jazz-new-york
At least they do seem to generally shy away from actually watching the movies, and listening to recordings from before the '60s or '50s seems to be more the domain of eccentrics and dedicated music nerds. You could possibly even drive away hipsters and halfhearted aficionados by directing them to The Birth of a Nation and old-timey TRVE KVLT cylinder recordings.
Also, electro swing seems pretty faggy.

>80s was the best decade since the 60s.
Yeah, for Jewish subversion of the masses. Rap became the emergent genre since all the male pop and rock artists stopped working out and started wearing make-up. It was a degenerate decade of consumerist hedonism that is largely responsible for the society we live in today.

Why should I need to explain? The fact the economy was in full boom should be enough. America and the rest of the west were growing increasingly commercialized by the day. Japan took over the electronics and automotive industries which they still maintain an ironclad grip over to this day mainly because US were incompetent fucks who couldn't do anything right and got their audio systems and gaming consoles inside 10s of millions of homes. The drug industry became the most successful criminal trade to the extent that many people refer to cars from that decade as "cocaine white". John DeLorean was literally a drug dealer that convinced Colin Chapman (founder of Lotus) to give him money to make an "iconic" unreliable wedge-shaped piece of shit that was slower than a Civic. Before he went broke, he sold some off that were plated with 24k gold. To say the 1980s was a decade of excess would be an understatement. Companies wanted to people to buy their shit, so they appealed to as many audiences as possible.
How many 70s family movies can you name off by heart? Not many, is it? If you took out animated features from Disney's malaise period you'd have almost nothing on your list. Without even thinking, I can name 10 from the decade after. BTTF, Ferris Bueller, Breakfast Club, E.T., Ghostbusters, The Goonies, trolls, The Karate Kid, The Princess Bride and Labyrinth. They took their focus off adults (who got by with the likes of Schwarzenegger, Stallone and Willis) in order to julay the biggest profit from unwitting goyim, who learned to trust the jew after the Satanic Panic basically illegitimized the church.
There's a video nostalgiafags (read: people who were kids/weren't born in the 80s) love to spread all over /pol/ to "prove" that the past was "better". It's been a while since I saw it but if I recall correctly, it's a group of people inside a 7-11 at 2AM sometime in the late 1980s that are uncharacteristically hyped up over something. What are they excited for? A trip to Disneyland. Oh wow, mindless consumers are looking forward to being bigger consumers.
I'm not saying OP is right by any means of the imagination, he's a tremendous faggot of grandiose proportions but the lionizing of the 80s in particular has to stop, particularly by WNs who really ought to know better.

<all those implications
That's exactly what I'm implying, and you'd have to be a fool to think otherwise. Album sales might have been higher for diehard fans, but you've got to remember something crucial about the turn of the millennium, and it's something that Metallica Streisanded so much that it's something Lars Ulrich is secondarily known for to this day.
Because niggers are, well, niggers, they often didn't pay for their music, and in many cases didn't have to. Parties and the radio did that job for them. What they couldn't buy, they leaked. At one point there was a leaking epidemic. Some got borderline famous simply because they knew some record executives on a personal level and had a hell of a lot of money to burn e.g. Koolo.
>Only now
Jesus fuck the denial. It took over around 2002 or so around the release of 8 Mile and stayed relevant thanks to talentless hacks like Kanye West, a nigger that would've been blackballed from the industry a long time ago were he white. 2000 - 2009 was pretty much single-handed domination by rap artists once edgy poprock like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park fell to the wayside. One only has to look at the best-selling albums from that period to get the idea:
>2002: Eminem - The Eminem Show
>2003: 50 Cent - Get Rich or Die Tryin
>2004: Usher - Confessions
>2008: Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III
>2010: Eminem - Recovery
Not exactly a fluke if the same genre takes the #1 spot 50% of the time. And the rest of culture was clearly indicative of a nigger takeover. "Bling" became a household term and reality shows like Pimp My Ride took off in popularity. GTA: San Andreas despite being a very clever Scottish pisstake on the "culture", irony flew over the heads of 99% of those who played it cemented Grand Theft Auto's place on the top card of gaming. Speaking of top card, nigger wrestlers started getting uppity and wanted better treatment than the honor of being a manager i.e. Virgil. John Cena became the best-known wrestler purely because his gimmick was a white nigger. Now you have Nigger Day, Mark Henry who spent half his career out on "injury" (read: going to KFC when he should have been performing), and Booker T who said "nigger" live on air. Hogan was right, and should never have cucked out.
The only way niggers know how to settle a dispute is by fighting. Youtube have spent the last few years shoving their pet nigger KSI down our throats, especially now that Pewdiepie has awoken and become an enemy of the site, and when he isn't playing a yearly Islamball game, he's socking others that are stupid enough to take him up on his offer of a boxing match.
I could keep going on about Mayweather and Tiger Woods and niggerball (both the handegg and basket kind), but you most likely get the point already.

Gonna expand on this a bit re vehicles: look at how much extra shit (read more shit to go wrong) there is on newer vehicles. Hope you don't have an older car with 15 inch wheels, because tires that size are getting to be rare as hen's teeth.
And that matter, look at how much nearly everything we buy has become style over substance since the turn of the century. Doesn't matter if it works, just gotta make it flashy and mindless consumers will eat it up.

Eh, WASP is decent by the standards of today but they're honestly just lame hair metal mom rock that was a little edgier than Quiet Riot and Motley Crue, so they seemed shocking by comparison.
I mean, hair metal was a lot better than nu-metal, emo, or modern rap, but that bar is a pretty low one.
When it comes to dark edgy music from the 1980's and 1990's, I'm more into goth rock and black metal.
Stuff like Mayhem, Bathory, The Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and the Banshees, etc.
Burzum made good music but then Varg turned into a complete Nordcuck lolcow creating shitty RPG's and boinking a retarded French girl named Marie.
If you think WASP is cool and dark and edgy, you're either a Millennial who just discovered classic rock or you're a Gen X burnout mom.

I haven't listened to anything they did past the first two albums, but W.A.S.P. was just catchy, good-time rock music like hair metal was in general. The main difference is that their sound was more aggressive than most of the other bands they were associated with (the same goes for pre-Theatre of Pain Motley Crue to a lesser extent). Who really cares about how "edgy" a band is? It's about the songs.
The bands you mentioned are all good, and that's because the songwriting was there. Also, Varg was always a lolcow but at least had a lot of musical talent.

The idea of an "edgy" rock band actually shocking people almost feels quaint nowadays. G.G. Allin and Mayhem are two of the only examples I can think of whose antics are still relevant in that sense, and that's because they went farther than just about anyone else was willing to go.
