>what is the best form of protestantism and what is the worst form?
You must be convinced in your conscience of whatever theological tradition you ascribe yourself to. One way or another you'll develop your own opinion on that in time. No denomination or church is perfect in doctrine or practice. I believe the tradition with the closest church structures to what is described in scripture are Baptists. I believe that the tradition with the best overall grasp of how to interpret scripture are Calvinists. There are Baptists who are also Calvinists, sometimes called Reformed Baptists. We like to sing A Mighty Fortress and then eat chickens. Have a sample sermon.
The worst form of Protestantism are liberal churches, regardless of denomination. If a church looks like it's infected by the political left, you can rest assured that their theology has collapsed out from under them too. They exist on a spectrum, so be wary.

Hey, /christianity/, I was thinking about making a sandwich and I'm not sure what to put on it. What form of poop is the best? Should it be more or less solid or kind of runny? Also, is their a good color? Because I'm not sure if I should go more green or brown?

Sacramental protestantism, otherwise you have to make light of Jesus' words.

Just read and believe the Bible. Joining a denomination is carnal because of 1 corinthians 3:3-4
>For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
>For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
and 1 corinthians 1:12-13
>Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
>Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
<I am of the pope
<I am of calvin
<I am of *insert thing that is not Christ here*

>Joining a denomination is carnal
Restorationist detected.
>For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
You completely miss the point of denominations and of that passage. Brothers will have sincere disagreements on all kinds of very significant doctrines. We have to have a name for those groups of doctrines in order to be able to meaningfully talk about them and recognize those differences. We could call them anything we wanted. We could name them after our favorite sandwiches, as long as everyone knew which sandwich corresponded to which doctrines.
This has nothing to do with taking sides against brothers, vain dissensions, which is what the passage is talking about. Paul and Apollos were teaching the same thing, which is why many people think Apollos might have written Hebrews. People were deciding who they wanted to be associated with on the basis of, it would seem to me, which ever workman would grant them more eminence among the brethren. Which yeah, obsession with rank and social clout is vapid and carnal.
><I am of the pope
>
><I am of calvin
>
><I am of *insert thing that is not Christ here*
Both groups say they are of Christ quite explicitly. Should we just do away with our group names and pretend we're all one big family, despite the fact that we're talking about two very different Christs? Do you even understand the nature of the Roman sacramental system, with the treasury of merit and the intercessory work of Mary? Are you sure you want to lump yourself in with them?
What about Calvinists vs Arminians? Names for two different understandings of how salvation works according to scripture. If you're a restorationist, you probably don't want to be associated with Calvinists because you might even consider us heretics. You should be happy that we have a different name. Or do you want to be associated with people who believe that Jesus only gave his life for a definite people whom the Father elected to salvation before creation?
Presbyterians vs Baptists? If you're a restorationist, then you'll agree with us Baptists that the proper and most God honoring way to practice baptism is by full body immersion, and only of someone professing faith. Presbyterians practice baptism by sprinkling or pouring water onto someone, and they believe in baptizing babies of their members as a sign of the new covenant, like Jews did with circumcision.
Do I think Presbyterians have some seriously screwed up views on baptism? Yes. Do I think we need to do separate things, according to our consciences, in order to maintain peace? Yes. But those are still my brothers in Christ. Same deal with Lutherans, and they're even more wacky sometimes. This isn't about vain dissensions. We all bear the name of Christ. It's about doctrinal unity and keeping a clean conscience.

They lose just on name alone. Not even Luther would approve.
Why they never took the same Evangelical label as the Germans, I don't know.

Best: <null>
Worst: All forms of protestantism
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus: there is no salvation outside of the Catholic church.
I'm simply telling you the absolute facts, not trying to convince you, but rather, answering your question. Go ahead and worship protestant heresy and disregard the teachings of the Holy Bible all you like…after all, you do have free will. ;)

Have you been living under a rock? They have been carrying on in open contradiction with the written doctrine for years, and now the church is finally splitting. Homos are retaining the "united methodist" name, and traditionalists are forming a new denomination

Look for a free KJV Reformed church (baptist or pedobaptist doesn't matter as long as it preaches the Word), not for pseudo-conservative denominations like the OPC or the Missouri Synod

Officially, the UMC still opposes homosexuality. It's a violation of church law and incompatible with the Christian teaching. Yes, there are a few individual churches and districts that defy the General Conference, and depending, they're liable for disciplinary action. They're the exception however, not the rule.
There has been no split in the denomination. One has been proposed, but it has not been voted on and won't be voted on until the 2020 General Conference; though that has been postponed to 2021. And, it may not even pass; though it is likely. However, it'll likely be the case that it won't pass unless the conservatives get more concessions such as retaining the UMC name and securing more funds for the traditionalist churches. Conservatives are the majority in this, and as always, it's just a loud, belligerent minority screeching until they get their way. Thankfully, the conservatives have not caved into any demands by the pro-LGBT crowd yet
