There was a time when I thought that Pope Francis might be less awful than we all thought. God I was so naive.

Also glad that 8chan is back from the dead. The world needs this board and stormers nearly killed it; at any rate it's good that Jesus has a place on the darker side of the web calling sinners to repentance.

I know this may be against the rules to say this here, but I think it needs to be said that Catholics are about as Christian as Jehovah Witnesses at this point, if not lower. Just get out of there, Cathnon, it's not and will never be a good place for you. Or maybe declare yourself to be the real pope and start another schism like the good old days

He's right though. Western culture is a disgrace, our leaders are a disgrace and all of them non Christian.

Christendom needs to be reforged.

Pope shouldnt be admitting defeat though, he should be working to reforge. Instead he seems to bask in irrelevance by following 'modern culture' in subjects like rapefugees and ecology. We get the Pope we deserve it seems, lukewarm christians, lukewarm pope, if we return to tradition and piety we'll get a pius pope.

Who cares about the rules of a silly forum, its against the rules of GOD. It needs to be said that Catholicism is the Truth, 'If a house is divided against itself, it cannot stand.' Whoever praises schisms is doing the work of their father, the devil.

Stop preaching against His Word.

Nice boomer Catholic Twitter take. Total mischaracterization at every level.

The reformation was theological. Nobody praises schism. It is our claim that we have the Catholic faith, and it is increasingly more obvious that your idea that a certain church in Rome has exclusive interpretive authority leads to compromise on the Bible.

You are not really helping your case when your argument is entirely based on platitudes and decontextualized prooftexts.

Jesus words are platitudes? Divided house cannot stand so whoever worked for division did the work of the devil and masterfully so, centuries latter and Christian unity still seems impossible.

What's the problem with a right interpretation, for a reason in the Acts, the Egyptian eunuch asked Philip to explain him the scriptures, so authoritative interpretation is Bible approved. And why should i prefer my personal interpretation to the richness of 2000 years of theologians sapience, i prefer to stand in the shoulders of giants than to pretend i can approach such a book by my lowly self.

Also every denomination has its own interpretations and decisions on which books belong to the bible except they arent giant shouldered.

If the reformation was the result of good theology it would be in accordance with the writings of the early church fathers too, but reading those men we see they are Catholic-like and whoever reads them ends up becoming Catholic so reformation theology stands isolated. It was a result of hubris and the proof of that seed is that it splintered into thousands of sects more, logically, if authority is to be shunned there are a trillion interpretations and a trillion sects to be birthed. Who needs consensus, division is better, says the devil. Easy pickings for subversion hence the state of denominations today.

The correct way to heal the church is by example not rupture. See St.Francis, the church of his time also had failings, so instead of rupture he 'reformed' by his conduct and everyone was awed by him, even the pope. A reformer of humility vs a reformer of hubris, check their fruits. Acting like St.Francis, being Christ-like is the hard way so unfortunately there are few like him.

We need people of his caliber again, they could reforge Christendom. This pope taking his name is just ironic since what he wants is a luther reformation not a Francis one.

Luther never wanted to split the church. He sought reform from within hence the name of the moment. But the RCC at the time made that impossible.

Blind obedience to authority leads to abuse. In case some people have forgotten, the likes of the Borgia also made it to pope. How many corruption, misconduct and other abuses have been committed by church officials? How much blood is on their hands? How much gold and finery do they adorn themselves with while the poor starve? Not too long ago, they were selling absolution.

How many times have people tried to kill Christianity over the last 2000 years?

Nobody can kill Christianity. Not boomers. Not communists. Not Diocletan. Not even Christians themselves.

Because this religion is the only one that is from God. And God promised that this church will prevail against the gates of hell even in the tribulations of the end times

Good optimism but the "gates of hell will not prevail" passage doesn't refer to people practicing Christianity at all times, it means Christians conquer death via Jesus

The true religion is nearly as old as the universe, from Abel onwards. It's closer to 7,000 years old.
