If I treat my relationship with God like any intimate relationship with a human, I realize why private prayer is so important. If I don't talk to him unless there are other people around, I'm an asshole.
Now, on the other hand, if he just gives me the silent treatment literally my entire life whether I try to actually talk to him or not, doesn't that make him the asshole? I know I'm being ungrateful but I'm human, I can't just ignore how his behavior makes me feel.

God talks to us through our lives. Things happen to us, meaning God wanting us to grow in certain virtues through those opportunities. There are two thieves at the cross, both subject to the same circumstance, one uses it to grow in sanctity, the other uses it to decrease.
Also spiritual dryness is good. Go to page chapter VI page 60 - Consolations and dryness. Its a book on mental prayer by a monk.

I never understood the protestant/evangelical thing where the put themselves as apparently equal buddies with God Almighty, creator of Heaven and Earth; the Triune God who is knows all, created all and gives us all.

Now I recall why I stopped visiting this board.
The only banned people are the Christians.
