wasn't that pretty much every countries drug policy since ever? It hasn't worked so far.

Even in countries like China where it's practically a life sentence for dealing drug people continue to do so.

What do you think about Portugals drug policy? it seems to have worked out pretty well.

I don't know anything about Portugal or China's drug policies, nor do I give a shit, and I'm not the lad who wants you executed. I do think we should properly enforce the laws we already have in place though, as there's virtually no deterrent at the moment and we basically live in a state of de facto legalization.

How can you look at the average normie's relationship with alcohol and think that giving them access to hundreds of new poisons could end in anything but disaster? You care more about pursuing your own hedonistic desires than your country.

Ah, so you're actually quite clueless on this sort of thing?

Please describe what you think the "average normie's relationship with alcohol" is. If you think the average person is just going to start smoking crack because it's legalized then you are hilariously out of touch.

The penalties for getting caught with small amounts of any drug are mild, and in many cases amount to nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Our police only go after suppliers in earnest, failing to recognize that they'll be playing whack-a-mole forever until they tackle the demand.

Binge drinking every weekend

You're either completely unaware of peoples' tendency to destroy themselves given the opportunity and means to do so, or are ignoring it because of your own selfish desires. Is dream market not enough for you? Why does Deano need to be able to buy the most potent mind-altering substances on the planet from the local paki shop?

My understanding of the Portuguese system is that they've decriminalised drug use and treat them as victims and seek to rehabilitate them rather than punish them, I don't really know any more in depth than that. I haven't heard much about how successful it's actually been, now as the opposite of this we have what Duterte has been doing in the Philippines which seems to be working, and has a proven track record when he did the same in Davidao city when he was mayor. Now I'm not actually arguing that we form death squads to violently purge drug users and dealers, it's just an example of when people actually enforce a zero tolerance policy it can work. I think most people think that the attempts to control drugs in this country have been fairly strict when really they've been pretty limp wristed and pathetic. Possession of the three legal classes of drugs will get you 7 years plus a fine for class A drugs, 5 years plus a fine for class B drugs and 2 years plus a fine for class C drugs. Meanwhile supply of class A will get you life in prison and a fine and supply of class B and C will get you 14 years prison and a fine. Clearly this is not sufficient deterrent because it hasn't been working, and if my local area is anything to go by the police don't even bother enforcing the law when it comes to weed (which is a class B drug). I'm not saying what I propose is the only way to deal with the drug issue we have and I think we can all agree the current system really does fuck all to help the problem, if the Portuguese system actually works and is cost effective (meaning rehabilitated people have a low rate of relapse) then I might be in favour of that for some people who have used less damaging drugs.

Drinking on the weekend is cultural and not like any other kind of substance use. And nobody beyond 18-19 gets blackout drunk every weekend, people drink on weekends and there is nothing wrong with this.

>failing to recognize that they'll be playing whack-a-mole forever until they tackle the demand

Literally never going to happen, that's not how people work. Why did Iran and Afghanistan have the highest heroin use in the world when they could face capital punishment if caught?

 No.64331

I think the way Portugal treats it's drug addicts is probably the right way to go about things. Most of these people are addicted too drugs because they didn't have a good support network in place, not because they thought heroin would be fun to try out just for shit and giggles. You say Duterte has a policy that works, his policy involves the murder of thousands of people with innocent people getting caught up in the crossfire. How in any way is that working?

I also disagree that most people think that drug policy is too strict, people in this country especially the over 40's hate drugs and think there a menace too society. the only thing I do agree with is this current drug policy is a pile of shit and needs to be changed. The fact you think that killing and mass incarceration or anything even stricter that the system we have now would be a positive step boggles the mind. As hard as you try you can not control everybody, so why not just legalize, illimante illegal trade that way, then be there to help the people that fall through the cracks and pretty much get them to pay for it themselves?

The idea behind laws is not just police / authority enforcement but also an aspect of moral reinforcement. It has generally been seen as morally wrong to break the law. And yes while today morals aren't exactly strong and neither is respect for the law, that is still the standard that should be aimed for. Why does it boggle the mind that I want people who push at worst very damaging substances and at best disruptive to healthy society killed? they are actively damaging my country and it's people and as far as I am concerned that deserves a hanging as much as committing murder or treason does.

>why not decriminalise shoplifting, after all even with all the modern deterrents to it we still can't stop shoplifters.

My mum was regularly partying and getting shitfaced throughout her 40s, she's calmed down ever since she became a grandparent, but even in recent years I've come across her passed out on the living room floor. I'd say it probably does become less acceptable around 25, because it's when a lot of people have to take on more responsibilities and become parents, but once the kids are a bit older they're back to stumbling out of clubs and bars again.

It's not just because it's DRM, it's because it sabotages the performance of the game by maxing out your CPU the entire time the game is running, it monitors what you and your system are doing without telling you, it gives you a limited number of activations, and it constantly phones home to third parties the entire time (and it may or may not give you a couple of days to play the game offline before you need to "re-activate"). Not to mention, there's no guarantee that the game will be "unlocked" once the activation servers go offline, which has happened to a couple of games already. Steam at the very least has the decency to not majorly fuck over your system's performance, let's you install non-Denuvo games on as many systems as you want, and lets you play non-Denuvo games offline without an arbitrary time limit.

The best way of course is to just not use Steam if possible, and for Steam-only games either pirate them, use cracked executables, or just tell the dev to go fuck themselves and play something else.
