This one actually has Nogrod's and Belegost's positions completely wrong, don't know how they figured this one out.

One on the left has a bit too much embellishment, although includes all the woods and terrain which is nice.

Right one is perfect for making shit up in homebrews.

And this Arda map is hilariously wrong, but nice none the less. Think it's from Atlas of Middle-Earth I believe.

As far as post First Age Middle-Earth maps go, you have this, you don't need anything else.

I've seen speculation maps of the rest of the world, with dwarf mountain homes labeled, but that was a lifetime ago on another computer. Good stuff here.

We don't know about those areas to make something as extensive as this.

If you zoom in you'll see that map has just about every major location of the Second and Third ages.

Because it makes a mistake Tolkien readers sometimes make, and assumes that the inland sea of Helcar covered Mordor, when Tolkien himself stated it didn't.

It was the biggest manor and occupied the entire space between one side of the mountain and the other, stretched beneath all three of the Misty Mountains biggest peaks (Redhorn, Silvertine and Cloudyhead)

Incidentally, the Tower of Durin where Gandalf finally ends the Balrog is on Silvertine.

Actually the scale is definitely wrong, unless they completely flattened the entire thing.

No way is that over 20 leagues. 20 leagues is already retarded long.

The topography in the first one is a bit wonky, and the second one is pure speculation, but god they're good.

Making a detailed shoreline for the whole continent and then leaving such huge swathes of emptiness close to the known area seems weird. For example, you'd imagine the area of the main Númenórean settlement around Umbar to be something else than endless desert.

That seems an odd assertion. If you are going to make huge ammount of fanfic shoreline, you might as well come up with fanfic geography to regions close to north-western Middle Earth.

>implying Mordor even existed in the first age and Tolkien wasn't confusing himself with the Sea of Rhun

The position and size of Helcar matches with his own personal sketches of (this version of) Arda.

 No.840

>>822

It is possible he was confusing it with Rhun, but considering the fact Tolkien was autistic accurate about everything when he gave interviews, I would assume he meant it.

Not saying Mordor existed in the First Age, but I am saying that Helcar did not cover the area that came to be Mordor.

Either he was wrong about Helcar's size in the first age (as it clearly covers what would become Mordor) or he conflated it with Rhun. You can take your pick.

I was under the impression that the map displaying Helcar where Mordor theoretically should be is from the Atlas of Middle Earth originally, so now drawn from Tolkien's notes.

Mind you, this is all just autism. It's not really required that such things be absolute facts. Myths are built on contradiction at times.
