It’s all authentic JRRT prose, so yeah, it’s pretty good
But Sauron is a cat.

>But Sauron is a cat.
It's subtle foreshadowing that Sauron and Berúthiel were the same person. One white cat, nine black ones. One cat to rule them all, one cat to find them, one cat to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.

Published Silmarillion is the faulty later version of the myth. Cat Sauron is straight from the authentic First Age witness accounts. I bet if the Fellowship had asked Galadriel about Sauron, she would have told about the cat thing.

Yes, it's quite good. Not as good as I'd like, Christopher didn't include the full Ley in it, omitting some parts, specifically the Canto where Beren and Lúthien first meet.
That said it's the first time, I think, he committed to published work the first version of the tale we have (with, as mentioned, cat Sauron, who is named Telvido,) Makes me wonder if Tolkien hated cats really.
Ultimately, it's really good. Worthy of being the last book Christopher edits. I really do feel we wont ever get stuff of good quality again. We might get more books, but nothing like this, or Children of Húrin.

CoH fucking rocks, the best part is early on when Hurin relentlessly repeatedly tells Morgoth to his face to fuck himself

Yes, it's very well edited.
Christopher knows how to properly handle his father's work, even if when he tries to write it its quite a jarring difference (see, the fall of Doriath chapters in the Silmarillion for an example)

And the second most badass thing is stalling an entire army of Orcs at a ford to the point everyone else is dead and your war-axe as corroded completely from the Orc blood.

Third is Beren stealing the Silmaril maybe, but that was more Luthien's achievement maybe.

It was basically a joint thing. It took a man and an elf maiden to do what all the power of the princes of the Noldor couldn't.
Same as it taking two hobbits to do what the great kingdoms in exile of the Númenórians couldn't and wreck Sauron's shit.
