It feels like Shounenshit because it is Shounenshit. Which if you don't like you'll probably struggle. Shounen is terrible when it tries to take itself seriously constantly (this is why Naruto and Bleach suck dicks compared to One Piece) but this manga does an excellent job jumping between serious and comedic tones to make the characters likeable and relateable while not very realistic. The manga also has art that doesn't look like generic trash which is another plus. Doesn't really get good until Boarhead shows up in my opinion though. Story isn't spectacular but the characters are enjoyable.
