Realistically What’s the odds that Tomoko will lose her virginity before most of her fans do?
Tomoko having canon sex in Watamote seems possible now.

To me, the spin-off, had an apropriate end for the series, Tomoko still strugling with her issues but her friendship with Yu and her... whatever with Komiyama bringing optimism and hope for the future.

I think that would have been a decent end as well if this yuri harem stuff never happened and maybe just became slightly closer to Komi-something-or-other-san and it just ended with her looking forward to college thinking that it will change.
Alternatively if maybe in the end she developed a little bit of self awareness and had a self realization that she can't just wait for things to happen in college and she needs to try to make them happen herself. Then the series ends on an ambiguous but slightly hopeful note.
But at this rate I feel like we're just going to get yuri harem college adventures dragged out into infinity

The anime had the perfect ending for the series, it's gut wrenchingly awful yet honest. Had they put that ending even as a chapter in between or directly after the School Trip Arc, I would have respected the new direction, as it would have given Tomoko an actual character arc and some development to her personality.

SoL Watamote isn't even that bad per se. It is just that it pales in contrast to the initial series. I would have liked it more if it was a distinct work. It feels like we exchanged a 9.5/10 for a 7/10.

I don't disagree with that which is I suppose in part why I've kept up with it. It isn't horrible to read it's just disappointing that this is watamote
>>94619
I think ending it after then would have been fine too. It maybe gives you hope for her future without having to see it. I guess one of my main gripes in seeing the future after the trip arc was that her yuri harem formed so unnaturally.
They all go on about how Tomoko is so interesting and weird and it's fun to be around her. Whenever I see shit like that being thought or said by characters it just makes me feel as if Tomoko's delusions just became real one day. She always had chuuni thoughts about about how being the way she is makes her more interesting and the joke was that it simply didn't and she was just trying to make herself feel better about her situation.
But now those delusions are real and everyone acts like that. In the past the manga felt so much more real and the emotions and thoughts within it felt very grounded in reality and the whole situation felt so much more real. But now it's as if she's stepped into a manga and has become your standard manga mc. It really feels as if a genie came in and made her the manga character she always wanted to be.

She will meet ME somehow, and then everything will be perfect. That's the real ending.
>This is building up to some giga turbo autism i can feel it.
If there weren't so many crazy girls around and she only had one or two friends, she would just end up alone again in college, but it would be even worse. I never made friends myself, but even I had two, in high school, but I never took the initiative. Other weirdos just kinda talked to me. In college, that didn't happen, then I realized that being with those people probably reduced my ability to socialize. I dropped out a bunch of times, but never talked to anyone ever. Now I haven't talked to anyone in 8 years and have barely left the house in 3 years. Tomoko just attracted a bunch of weird people, so it's basically the same thing, but it seems a lot less likely that she will end up completely alone again. Still, even with the confidence boost from not being alone, talking to strangers is uncomfortable.

Overwhelmingly yes. Komi san is filling the role of socially awkward girl that Tomoko Kuroki left behind. I'd say that the Anime still holds up, but just assume that the manga ends like at chapter 9-10.
>>94866
I think the other anon has a right to ask about the series. Keep in mind that Watamote is really strong up until its halfway point, meaning that he might have to suffer just as us.
Also what I find most unreasonable about nu-Watamote is that girls spontaneously all developed autism all at once. It's like they diluted every single character trait Tomoko had and made a composite character out of it, with Yuri being as close as the original Tomoko as possible, emoji-tan being the lesbo part of her, Yoshida-san the mean part, that knock off Miku the otaku part etc. Literally Komiyama is more interesting than her at this point.

>girls spontaneously all developed autism all at once
That is not how I see it. They were always like this. The only weird thing about it is that they weren't around before. Unless they were suddenly vaccinated, you wouldn't expect them to be so invisible for so long. Most of the manga focused completely on Tomoko, and everyone else around her seemed to be normal and boring, and then suddenly she's surrounded by other girls that are as weird, in different ways, and that want to destroy her holes almost as much as I do. Other than asking yourself where they were the whole time, there is nothing really wrong with it. It's just a sudden shift that doesn't necessarily make that much sense, and has some drawbacks. Still fun, though. The worst thing about it is that I don't get as much Tomoko as before, so it's like the manga is dangling a piece of meat in front of a starving dog. But if it's the only thing that bothers me about the manga, and it's still fun, then it's definitely still good and people should read it and make their own decisions, instead of following the retard hivemind.
>Yuri being as close as the original Tomoko as possible
Not necessarily true. We don't know much about her, because there are too many characters, and she's by far the quietest. I don't think she has the soul of a perverted old man like Tomoko does, but we may never know, and I really want to know. That is the only real problem with the manga as far as I'm concerned. Having too many characters limits how well we can get to know each one of them individually, and especially limits how well we can know a character that is clearly uncomfortable around other people. Introducing more characters was a good idea because we already knew Tomoko well enough, but keeping all of them around all the time was too much.

No it's really not fun at all. It's quite boring, actually. It was still kinda fun during the School arc, I'll give you that much. It's such a safe manga right now that it's painful, I'd much rather read how Komi-san is trying to communicate, despite how weak it is compared to the original Watamote, than this garbage, yet I come back hoping it will get fixed eventually.

The only way to truly reclaim this sort of series from their worse version is the Pepe the Frog approach of making it extreme on the other side of the spectrum until the new "fans" stop trying to be associated with it, but I don't see it happening any time soon with Watamote because for one thing, the western fans are in the minority and it's mostly nips buying it now (in a very weird contrast to how it started out, with western fans being the sole reason it was kept alive as otakus shunned it because it stroke too close to their filthy homes) so instead of making her into some sort of neo nazi I'd say it'd be much funnier if she started bending the knee and apologizing for Nanking and Korean women of comfort. I'd wager that nips would get assblasted of seeing her like that.
On a side note, I really don't get why they're still butt flustered over the war crimes. Literally every nation who's been at war in that period killed millions with fair or foul means, what on Earth are they gaining from not admitting they performed some snuggles with some struggles?

I don't mind yuri shit, but this wasn't originally the appeal of the series at all and is kind of boring to boot. There's no real character development going on with Tomoko and there hasn't been much of a point to adding a new moe-of-the-week to the group other than a setup for a "WOW I WAS POPULAR ALL ALONG xD" punchline. You can't even really call it a harem. Any /u/fags defending it on the basis of it just having some girls together in it needs a better argument.

She will do that, and then the only person on the planet that will still love her will be me. She will hit rock bottom and meet me, that's the real ending, anon, no matter what the writer says. Anything else would be wrong. We have to both get autismbux, and live together in isolation forever getting drunk and watching anime while holding hands and then having crazy sex on drugs. If that doesn't happen, the universe will be a mistake and everyone will have to go to hell and choke on Satan's big red spiky cock. This is canon, because I said so. Man, I don't know how they did it but they finally managed to kill all the "cringe" in the manga with the last chapter. It hasn't been a "comedy" in quite a while, but now it's just a bunch of stuff that happens and sometimes the translators use imageboard lingo to make it feel like Watamote is still relevant.
Spoilers for those who've been missing out... Tomoko went on a Motorbike ride with the delinquent character, someone took a pic of them and sent them to school where they got promptly suspended, but instead of the chapter looking at the repercussions thereof they just jump one panel to the next with stuff that happens when you get in trouble with your school. Not even some sort of reaction from Tomoko aside from a scene of her getting pissed she couldn't respond on LINE to all her new friends. They literally namedrop how she's popular and it somehow isn't plot relevant.
Fuck this series, seriously. Thank goodness for the croquette Yakuza, even though the translations are even worse. I'm being stockholm syndrome'd just in the hope it would crash and burn.

Yep, it's absolutely sterile now, the series has been taken over by slice of life loving, overreacting yurifags that will shit out their entire reaction folder when two characters or more appear in the same panel. There's no escape from this hole right here, the author scrapped the "disaster" scenario a long time ago thanks to his fear of losing that vicious fanbase and their shekels.

It's funny you said that, because I took a long, hard look at the series as a whole again from start to finish and I've realized what the problem is. It's not even the change of pace or the transition from cringe comedy into a yuri harem.
It's the goddamn writing.
This whole chapter should have been a pretty big deal, Tomoko never was studious but she was also the kind of person who doesn't stand out negatively - outside of the dicks thing at least. Yet no one in the series has any strong feeling towards what just happened, even the parts where her ma's angry at her it's just so dry of graphical emotion. Compare it to earlier chapters, even Tomoko getting a fucking scissors cut is treated like the biggest thing in the world, not just by her words and actions but how they're portrayed with energy, dynamism and a lot of mental projection. There's more drama in Tomoko falling off of a bike than in her entire post school trip world. The art also took a nosedive, not really in substance but in style. Tomoko looked off in later chapters, so I went back and noticed that it's almost like her design got streamlined to churn out faster chapters. It's not as noticeable or as important, but they made her noticeably more proportioned, meaning her expressions are much more muted. They seem like inconsequential things but they really add up.

After the School Trip Arc, when somehow the people who actively disliked her decided to do a 180° turn for no reason at all. The fun part was that it would have still been a good manga if the way she made friends with them was something of a gradual understanding, but the way they made it work is that the people who didn't want anything to do with her suddenly did, they had to take Tomoko's traits and imprint them on six different cardboard cutouts.
>>108020
I'm okay with it turning into a positive message about never truly being alone, heck Tomoko's goal all throughout was to try and become a normaflag. But it's just so unnatural and so boring, literally none of the characters have anything interesting to add to the plot, all the occasions they could have added to, y'know, build their relationships don't exist i.e. Yoshida and Tomoko are stuck in detention, but instead of showing them growing closer they shoehorn a single line about what they wanna do afterwards and that's it.
>>108038
I think the weirdest part in all of this is that for once western artists beat the nips in that they keep drawing stuff from just the important parts of the manga instead of the cookie cutter yuri bait.
