Otaku used to control the scene with their money.
Since anime has become mainstream enough otaku are no longer in control, surface level fags are.
I blame translators and localizers. I used to like translators because I appreciated what they do, but the truth making anime and manga so accessible is what is causing it to become the way it is.
The good part is, while this isn't a real solution, your old and anime manga that aren't "pozzed" (or whatever buzzword you want to use) is aren't going anywhere.
The real otaku, and their creations or creators are still there, they're just deeper below the surface, now with less money since bigger studios or publishers can make tons of normalfag money now.
