Honestly the only Japanese tabletop game I know is Yu-Gi-Oh.
Other than that I never hear about other Japanese tabletop games in most weeb circles showing that they are extremely niche even in the anime fandom.

>I wonder how we can play these games online?
Online RPG groups have been done in IRC, in forum form (we'd need to name/tripfag for this), in voicechat form, Roll20 probably isn't an option since they're SJW, but MapTool + Mumble may be an option. I've also heard good things about Foundry VTT, but never tried it myself, but that also already includes chat/voice chat functionality.

A note for those new to JP&P:
Their games tend to be more collaborative narrative-focused than western games, which are more game-ey. Expect rules to end with some version of "or as is appropriate to the narrative". Sometimes that means that means slice of life games.
They also tend to be less focused on larger campaigns and more on 1-2 session long short stories. Probably a good thing if we should end up doing this.
There's a couple more or less translated games, namely:
>Double Cross
A mutation virus has been released on the modern world that eats away your humanity the more you give in to it and now there's chuunis with actual powers running around secretly fucking shit up. You're one such chuuni, except your job is to stop the other chuunis from fucking shit up by fucking their shit up first. You're also a member of a secret organization.
Every player needs to bring a fedora, a katana off alibaba, an eypatch and one (1) fingerless glove for the proper atmosphere.
>Golden Sky Stories
You're in a small town and some kinda nice youkai. Basically Neko Musume: The RPG.
>Log Horizon RPG
I think - think - enough of it's been translated to play it.
The title pretty much says already what it is.
>Nechronica
Players are emo zombie girls trying to kill the guy that has revived them (along with all the other zombies, who have no will of their own, he's revived). Expect big sad.
>Night Wizard
Same deal as with Log Horizon, except it's a different anime.
Wizard in modern days are at war with demons, except they can't do shit because the universe self-corrects when people see something that shouldn't exist.
Also chuuni as fuck.
>Ryuutama
A very simple RPG. The GM is a doragon of one of four flavors. Those flavors can influence the direction of the story, so it's important. GM character can even interact with players, somewhat.
Players are humans travelling through a fantasy land. Game is mostly about travelling and wandering through a nice landscape, not getting lost/wet when it rains, maybe some combat against walking eggs and other mostly cute fantasy monsters etc. Comfy.
Except when the GM is a licorice flavored doragon. Then shit's getting fucked.
>Tenra Bansho Zero
In short, basically the Sengoku Jidai, except there's fuckhuge mechas piloted by special children and warring factions of monk secret police and samurai aren't really human since they have a demon inside, cyborgs are a thing, and so are people mainly made up of a giant mass of worms.
>Grancrest RPG
The clue is in the name.
Honorable mention: Zettai Reido
Japanese Succubus RPG that has not yet been translated enough. Lewd.
Ryuutama is probably the easiest to run/play out of all of these. Tenra Bansho Zero is the most popular one, AFAIK.

> I'm shocked no one has made much of an effort to play it here in the west.
with no english version it's not surprising. apparently there's even a few solo books according to a post on rpggeek.
so you'd need to find a company willing to pay upfront to pay for a translation and hope they sell enough. not to mention hoping that shit doesn't get pozzed to hell and back during translations like nip vidya.

>Does a torrent even exist in teh first place?
unless some kind anon in the west scanned it probably not, nips are apparently super strict about piracy. but non-english stuff is a gamble in general.

If a translation exists, your best bet would probably be to search the halfchan archives. 4/tg/ used to always have a JRPG general, but it seems to no longer exist.
I've uploaded what I had from there >>117315 but it's at least a couple years out of date and I remember there being active translation efforts for some games.

Actually, scratch that. I've found a translation of the first 2.0 rulebook that's at least called "playable". The second and third rulebook aren't translated, but those are for high level players and additional options. So the base may possibly be in a playable state, but only the original and not the revised rules.

Translation would be difficult. The good thing is that you won't need typsetters and redrawers like manga scanlators.
However you do need a handful of Japanese translators and proofreaders considering how extremely wordy these books are which would be quite the workload.

If anons were serious about a game night I dont see why not. Only reason I would see no one showing up is lack of interest or that teaching new players might take to long. The good thing is that these games seem a little less dice heavy.

I'd be willing to run it. I'd be using FoundyVTT (assuming I can get it to run properly), you guys would just need to connect. But you'd need a password for that, so I'll need an email address from you if you're interested. Throwaway works.
Voice chat would probably work better, so a microphone would also be great (cheap ones work).
Game would be MaidRPG, one of the beginner scenarios probably. For time, next Saturday, February the 1st, at 2200 UTC would look good for me, assuming we get enough players and I can get my VPS set up till then.

Little update on the MAID RPG session on Saturday at 2200 UTC:
VPS is set up and tested, it should work.
I've found out that you can just use a player without password, so no email necessary.
I'll make sure to put the server live about half an hour or so before starting time and will post the IP here then. Your browser'll throw an exception because I'm using a self-signed certificate to be able to use voicechat, just click on advanced and go on to the site. Delete it after we finish if you're uncomfortable about it.
Character creation will be during the session, since it's fast anyway.
