It kind of made sense in that because Edolas was autistic and Chise was a trophy wife that everyone wanted a piece of. In this case Somalia's value as tasty meat is basically hidden and the Golem is also autistic but more on guard of what's going on around him/them.
Anyways there's clearly a lot of ground for Somalia and golem to cover, so I think there's plenty of opportunities for things to happen that contribute to the overall plot. With probably a significant portion of the story revolving around securing a safe living situation for the other humans once they find some.

But my point is she was more of a commodity to everyone in the world than Somalia. As evidence by Somalia being found left in a bush like a used tampon and Chise's introduction being auctioned off for the price of a small country. So it would be a lot more forced for Somalia to keep getting separated from the golem.
