Here's a thread for manga or anime that you've consumed that left you feeling unsatisfied or downright offended after the ending. Please remember your spoiler tags.

I know I'm super late on this but someone recently recommended I read Mirai Nikki so I did them a solid and read it over the course of a few hours. Despite having some interesting moments and some genuinely cool plot points I just felt disgusted by the end of it and once I was finished my opinion of it had been thoroughly soured. My main issues were: inconsistent characterization across the board, A horrifically stupid sequence of fakeouts and reveals that led to nothing and pretty much everything about the main character. I'll focus my attention on that last point for the purposes of having a decent main post. Spoilers ahead.

So this guy, Amano, is the main character pretty much by complete happenstance. He's the favorite to win the game being played for pretty much no reason. He gets pushed along by pretty much every character, antagonist or protagonist alike, as they desperately try to get him to do something, ANYTHING that would actually help him achieve some kind of goal in his life. Every decision he makes seems to be based on a new motivation he just came up with on the spot, regularly flip flopping between "Save everyone!", "Save my friends!", "Save my parents!", "Save Yuno!", or even just "I wanna fuck Yuno!". He only achieves this last goal, by the way.

This clown Breaks every promise he made during the course of this shit show and manages to get his entire universe destroyed after murdering his own friends and having his Yandere Waifu™ kill herself so he could become a god. Now, this would almost be a good ending to have him have to sit there eternally and think about how his passivity and wishy washiness ended up ruining literally everything, but the author had to inject something of a "Good End" into the very last bit.

This good end completely invalidates one of the only actually good things the MC managed to achieve, creating a happy future for the alternate reality version of his Yandere Waifu™ so she could live without becoming a psycho murderer who only thinks about him. Instead of THAT happening, the alternate reality version of his Yandere Waifu™ has her brain written over to have all the memories of her alternate universe self who only lives eats and breathes the MC. Then, she is given time god powers which completely calls into question the reason this whole fucking manga happened in the first place and finally she breaks through space time so she and the MC can live in time god love together forever and make a new world. God damn.

So, is there anything you've read or watched recently that just left you with some feelings you want to get off your chest?

Special shout out to I am a Hero for another deeply unsatisfying ending that I may go into detail later.

I knew I would fuck up the spoilers somewhere in that post. I usually don't write so much.

I'm not going to pretend to have read your post in its entirety or claim that you are wrong but as long as you keep using your brain, as you did while reading (should've watched it instead if you ask me), you should be fine. You just remind me of my younger self that would still use his brain while watching a show. You read 1/20th of the entire manga library worth a read. Congratulations!

A few days ago I read History's strongest disciple Kenichi which starts well but becomes progressively worse until a ridiculous ending arc. It gets more eechi too and the girls are cute so it was bearable but the ending was all over the place.

I like to think of this manga as grave of the fireflies with vampires; including in how easily the whole situation could have been solved. In grave of the fireflies, if the kids had gone back to their aunt and said, "sorry. Me and my sister is dying." everything could have been solved. In this manga if the brother had forced his sister to drink his blood, she wouldn't have to die. It's shown that vampires can survive of other vampires blood and that the kids father lived until the daughter was 14, giving her his blood.

I recognize that manga and know I didn't bother to finish it, it probably was trash for my taste is impeccable.

Consider your comparison to Miyazaki's kiddie trash I think it's safe to say I'm still good. Imagine that.

I'll never not be mad at Parasyte's ending.

The environmentalist message at the end felt incredibly forced, and the way all parasites were defeated was forced too. I'd much prefer a boring "aliens are invading the earth" plot than this.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers did it right but people apparently forgot that it's ok to copy something if that thing is fucking GOOD.

Personally, I always filed that bullshit as the ramblings of some parasytes who in the end didn't know what they were any better than anyone else.

The ending of the parasytes being forced to blend in, being just the realistic endgame of an invasion of the bodysnatchers type story, where a complete takeover is impossible due to the sheer numbers of humans.

Mirai Nikki has the worst fucking ending of any anime I've ever watched, and the shithead MC easily takes the spot for number one useless whiny pussy making Shinji look like an alpha in comparison. Fuck everything about it.

Of course its not easily understandable. It was made in the late 80's-early 90's Manga wise. Anime wise it was adapted way later on when animation improved to a point it could be adapted. It was in a time when diversity of storylines were encouraged rather than the same old school settings. You do have to at least give it credit that it tries to be something different and to give a message about our actions and how that effects things around us

>Wasn't that message there since the beginning?

I'm just speaking from memory, but I don't remember it being that hamfisted thorought the anime as it was in the end. It literally goes from

>hey we defeated teh big bad, even though we still have no answers to what the parasites are, where they came from or what is their master plan™

to

>lol no they just fucked off trust me nothing ever happened ever after like they just gave up or something. Also did you know that you are destroying your planet and the parasites are the cure? Shame on you.

I think they fit all that in a single episode too? Frankly it's been too long and time only worsened my disappointment.

Good point, I understand that it's a product of it's time, I would be fine with the message if it had been spoonfed to me in small doses instead of all in the end.

The anime is so fucking ugly. How could you watch that shit when you can read the manga. I couldn't stand more than single episode of that censored trashheap.

Every harem anime/manga that doesn't end in a harem.

Instead of living up to expectations or getting rid of the useless filler characters to properly develop the real pair the author wastes everyone's time with cockblocks and reseting things back to the status quo for 100+ chapters until they tell him his turd is getting canceled, so he slaps together some shitty ending in 2 or 3 chapters and gives everyone the middle finger.

Special honors go to the author of OreImo for somehow managing to make an ending that pissed absolutely everyone off.

This piece of shit right here. I still like it a lot, but goddamn that fucking buildup with the mutants went fucking nowhere. Would've prefered even a cheesy ending with Hideo and Hiromi living happily ever after in the island with everyone else instead of the hot garbage we got. Should've focused more on absolute CHAD Nakata if they were going to give us such a bland ending for Hideo.

This is the guy that wrote Ressentiment, right? Ressentiment was an interesting story with a rushed, disappointing ending, though in fairness I heard his superiors wanted him to end before he meant to.
