Is it true that Japan proportionately has more vending machines per person than any other country?

I wonder if they had a lot of sales.

It's not like you start cooking at 10pm only to realize there's no more soup stock and the local combini is closed so you can't get some.

Maybe it was artisanal soupstock.

I've seen vending machines used to sell products from farms too small to get into supermarkets 24/7 at popular places like train stations. Could've been one of those.

Hard to tell if Japan's obsession with fish is healthy or unhygienic.

Everything is soup stock if you are brave enough.

>soupstock or a preserved fish or, dare I dream, both?

It's soupstock based on fried flying fish (the one in the bottle) and bullet tuna (a bonito-like species of tuna) which is the most staple species for katsuobushi (skipjack tuna makes higher quality and bonito is used as a cheaper alternative).

The flying fish is edible but not suggested since its both used to keep some kick on the broth plus its consistency is shit, as would normally be expected by fried fish embalmed in liquid.

Tangentially related, but I kind of wonder what other countries like Japan think of scorpion lollipops that you sometimes see for sale in southwestern states. Assuming they're aware of them, anyhow.

Fish sauce, it's pretty much what you see: sauce made from fermented fish.

I don't know if you need a specific fish or if any would work.

Wait, how did you know that? Did you actually bought one of those bottles out of sheer curiosity? Does it taste great?

Also i agree that anything can be turned into a soup stock, especially since our earliest way of cooking after putting things in front of a fire, is to put something inside a boiling pot of water. That reminds me, how do we even find out about salt?

>how do we even find out about salt

Deer and probably other wild animals lick salt rocks. I'd guess people saw that and tried to do it too. Failing that, somebody couldn't swim too good and swallowed ocean water.
