when you have parties competing the party members have to vote for their party, so the officials are telling them who to vote for. If there's only one party then you wouldn't have this.
another problem with the party system is you get these ridiculous debates between issues, like one party wants a secure border wall and the other wants no borders, one wants to protect the Constitution and enforce it's amendments and the other wants to suppress them and uses words like "hate speech" and "assault weapons" to do it.
The candidates shouldn't be debating over whether to follow the Constitution or burn it or whether a nation should be nationalist, of course it should or you dont have a country. The discussion should be how to enforce the Constitution how to give the people what they want within the constraints of the Constitution, and find and end abuses of the Constitution. Without the 2 party bs you could avoid some of the roadblocks to that.
