I learned about psychosocial development stages like "Initiative vs Guilt" and I realized that might explain a few things. Maybe the sheer amount of people who suffered from that sort of thing scaled up the issue when they all participated in politics.
Sheltered kids aren't as confident and can often only see the negatives in new ventures, which might be why change is so slow to come and why we have such a hard time agreeing on anything in politics. Because we scare ourselves out of considering possible solutions with the negatives.
I guess Obama wasn't the only one that put kids in cages.
