What effects does architecture have on society?
I saw the thought somewhere, considering the modern architecture in Europe, being a means to (literally) deconstruct the European identity. Is this valid? So much modern-architecture is garish, often vain grandiose expression, gimmicky, void of utility, and its of the quality no matter where you are.

There's an interesting argument that architectural themes in some way represent the cultural idea of a people. I'd agree that the meaningless form of postmodern architecture mirrors the growing nihilism or emptiness of modern Western culture (postmodernism progressing and spreading with the quickening of Western decline). Not a cultured anon so sorry if this is a bit vague.
