I'm going to put this here because I'm not going anywhere soon and this board (although as dead as all non-top3 or so boards) still attracts legitimate people on occasion.

In my opinion the idea that suicide is selfish is completely absurd and somewhere around the opposite is true "don't commit suicide because it will make me feel bad although I can't help you" or "I brought you into this world now suffer with me"

I don't have enough to continue with anything more indepth for now so take this or discard this.

Take it from any angle you want

what's wrong with selfish? sometimes its a negative but not always. so is that really the problem with suicide? that its selfish? i dont believe so..

i encourage you to stop thinking so abstractly and to focus your question in this context:

>is suicide useful?

and I dont mean in general but for you personally. does it sincerely serve a purpose which you cant arrive at without suicide? or is suicide useless?

there is no good and evil, only the useful and the useless.

i would say suicide is useless for you.

This could all be reversed. I was never asked to be brought into this life.

Anyways, now that I am here I have several options beyond just ending my own. So that's something I suppose

And is suicide useless if you just struggle with your own existence and feel no reason to continue struggling?

OMG so goth high school blah blah but yeah. What if after over three and a half decades you still feel the same way?

Just curious: What does this have to do with psychopolitics?

I'm not trying to passive-aggressively diss your thread. It's a legitimate question.

Suicide is selfish, but selfishness isn't bad necessarily.

op, your strawman arguments from your hypothetical parents show how selfish you are. you have no regard for the feelings of others - you judge them viciously and pretend as if you weren't at least as guilty as them.

anyhow, I assume you want to 'cease existing' because it's 'too much.' this notion is foolish - you are not your body and nothing more. I expect you will reject this notion though. in any case, you will find that no matter how much you convince yourself that you want to die, all parts of you besides your 'rational intellect' will scream out against this course of action

Most of us will never know true torment

"Trust in my self righteous suicide... I cry when angels deserve to die."

The social pressure pushed to condemn suicide as immoral.

Consider the following: Condemning someones suicide as a way of attempting to prevent it for your own gain is equally if not more selfish. Greedy, to be specific.

>>3157

This is true, although I don't see how accepting that fact without actually going through with it is in any way foolish.

And how is life useful? Considering the assumptions in the previously quoted post, the only reason to stay is because it's dangerous to quit.

I can't comprehend non anti-natalist train of thought.

If anything, suicide is the most selfless thing. Most people are a leech on the world.

Suicide is preferable when life no longer becomes worth living. Voluntary death can be charged with meaning unlike dying naturally. Suicide with a purpose is a direct refutation of nihilism.

Suicide is only limited by the sadness we might cause to those close to us, or by obligations requiring us to stay alive.

People pontificate, "Suicide is selfishness." Career churchmen like Pater go a step further and call in a cowardly assault on the living. Oafs argue this specious line for varying reason: to evade fingers of blame, to impress one's audience with one's mental fiber, to vent anger, or just because one lacks the necessary suffering to sympathize. Cowardice is nothing to do with it - suicide takes considerable courage. Japanese have the right idea. No, what's selfish is to demand another to endure an intolerable existence, just to spare families, friends, and enemies a bit of soul-searching.

Suicide is edicius backwards, edicus is an early Latin word meaning 'mis-strike', which refers to the stroke of a sword striking an unintended object; usually a scrape against oneself after trying to sheathe it. The point that was made in calling self-destruction 'suicide' is that a fatal attack against one's self is a misdirected strike.
