So "every country does it", but I don't hear a lot about Canada and Scandinavia. Canada's obviously in bed with the USA, but how bad? And how does Scandinavia turn out so great?

This is a long documentary, and I was starting to feel like it was just an adventure story with lots of things happening with not much point to it other than to illustrate how hopeless things were which itself seems like a propaganda piece, though there are some more interesting bits. I'm morbidly curious, so I'll keep viewing.

Canada is part of FiveEyes, which is an intelligence sharing community made up of the intelligence agencies of english-speaking nations. USA, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. I'm not sure what the relationship is exaclty, or how large a part of it Canada is, but as a developed nation I imagine they have considerable capabilities.

I guess I'm just surprised because Canada seems so... innocuous. Maybe their PR is just better? I'm also not sure what to make of the claim that their constitution or whatever is stronger than the USA's.
Then you look at how they treat the natives and maybe we're just the USA's warehouse of natural resources.
It makes me a little paranoid about Scandinavia's situation, since they ALSO sound good, and I'm wondering what their dark side is and how the IMF affects them. I don't really know how to research that. Well, it looks like almost all the countries on the planet are in the IMF with very few exceptions. I know that Iceland let ... oh, all 3 of their major banks go under instead of bailing them out. ... Wait, I'm not seeing that on wikipedia. I read news about it long ago, but maybe it was misleading.

As for your surprise, it's naive to think developed nations aren't going to have powerful intelligence capabilities, and naive to think these capabilities aren't necessary. Intelligence services aren't all bad, I'd say they contribute hugely to our quality of life. They just require checks and balances. I suppose for Canada their relative obscurity stems from their foreign policy, they're not as 'proactive' as the US is.

Well, they didn't used to be. It looks like that's going to change. USA-lite is next on the menu. Of course in the past Canada still hadn't been strictly neutral in military aggression, but it's been strategic in only providing support rather than being directly involved.

I didn't really get a sense of that. I wish I wasn't so hopelessly stupid and lazy. I guess if people care, they study politics and history and stuff.

Yeah, I found that wikipedia article, but it didn't match what I remembered reading from news articles. Other search results talked about how they made a few arrests for show but were continuing on with the financial blunders. The wikipedia article even mentions they followed recommended action by the IMF.

Considering those bankers are probably tied up with all the previously mentioned nastiness, it's no wonder everyone does what they say, one way or another. I don't know. I don't understand what powers there are and how they balance or fluctuate.
