But apparently even the DLC for FFXV did not carry anything over from the main game.
So there's a good chance that none of your progress will carry over to Part 2, which is where the healer becomes useless*, so there's really no consequences for leveling the healer AFAIK.

I'm playing IX right now after beating FFVI, V and VII. It's the only one so far where I've died on a couple bosses and even some enemies and even had to exit a dungeon to go back and get potions, whereas I've never bought any consumable in past games, so your claim seems more than a little bit dubious. Then again, maybe it's just because it's harder to tell what % life I have left without any meter, so my guys end up dying suddenly.

I can't really comment on that yet, but this sounds dubious too. Even with linearity, it's got much better story, dialogue and characters than previous games, which is the backbone of a JRPG, save maybe VI but I kind of ruined my experience with that by not playing with a fan translation.
