The character creation process takes forever and if you follow the random generation procedure that they suggest you can end up as a child too young to have a class among other handicaps you might experience. The combat system allows for completely unintuitive outcomes like hitting a guy in the heart without damaging his chest. The whole thing was made by a statistician so expect everyone to wind up exceedingly average to the point of being boring. There is also some weird sex stuff thrown in so even if you were down for "commoners and kids try not to catch the plague" you're going to have to journey through the piss forest to get there. It is basically a simulationist game designed by someone trying to simulate mathematical averages instead of a fantasy adventure or medieval life.
Several months ago we had a thread where someone made a character using the newest edition of the rules at that time. We wound up with a 5 month old girl with hideous baby tits, family were bergers I think.

FATAL is a horrid mess of simulationist design, random chance, template application, tied together with a complete lack of boundary testing. There is absolutely nothing about any of its rules which makes for an engaging experience. Most of the time, you'll do something as you're intended to, then apply a template as you're intended to (such as advancing a character's age), only for the result to be a complete Gordian knot of rules and bonuses/penalties.
>roll a baby because you have no control over character creation
>hymen strength and anal circumference are suspicious for a baby
>age baby by 20 years
>modifiers now mean your character has a 6-inch anal circumference and negative hymen strength
The third book - the one with all the actual fucking lore - was also never printed because it was never finished, so all you can do is read about the history of the world (what little there is), and make deformed messes of stats pretending to be characters.

This board is slow enough for a game to be played.
Seriously, we should try to play a super-short dungeon-crawl.
If we don't have stock enemies... We roll for them.
Anyone can jump in and take control of a character or apply appropriate rules filling in for as GM, we do it all by the book. No new actions for a character until their previous actions are resolved, etc.
We could keep it going for years and never finish the floor of a dungeon.

I've only participated in CharGen, which in itself was a huge hassle, but watching the absolute disaster of a character start to take form was hilarious.
I read through alot of the pages posted, all of it terrible.
I guess the idea is stillborn because there are very few people who have read through enough of the rules to jump in to GM and resolve actions.

FATAL Chargen guy here again, reviving this thread because I want attention and feel the need to suffer. I've got some spare time this week so why don't we start genning another character again? I mean what's the worst that can happen, right?
Like usual (I did the past two FATAL characters here) I'll be using the 2004 version of FATAL rather than the 2003 one, there aren't really many differences but apparently 2004 is slightly more polished. Not that that really matters, this is still FATAL, 2003 just has less pictures of naked ladies. If you want to read the rules along with me then 1d4chan has links to both versions of the game in the external links of the FATAL page (https://1d4chan.org/wiki/FATAL). I'll be going through the full FATAL char-gen but I'm not going to actually show the character in gameplay because I don't hate myself that much.
Last time we genned a character we ended up with an anorexic baby beggar with anorexia and a rape addiction, before that in 2016 we had a bipolar slave baby who was going to become a carter for a slave cowherd when he grew up. Maybe this time we'll have something different? We'll just have to see.
First we'll be looking at Race and Gender, fun thing to note here, race is one of the few things Bryon Hall- the author of FATAL- thinks players may- under certain circumstances- be allowed to pick. This is because of a set of rolls we'll get to a bit later that basically makes multi-species parties guaranteed to lead to PVP.
Alright, to get this train-crash started, could someone please respond with a 1d100 roll to discover our newest PC race?

A 60 means we're a kobold! No, not that kind. The germanic fairy-tale kind, and by germanic fairy-tale I mean rape.
FATAL kobolds are small, live underground, and like slavery. If you go into the previous post I did, they were the blue guys on the cover. Each race in FATAL has about half a page of lore in their description but I'm not going into any of them because they're all pretty dull stuff like kobolds really liking to enslave humans or dark elves being sluts.
All you really need to know is we're almost certainly going to turn out to be a massive dick. All I need to know is that the kobold race have a shit-ton of different modifiers I need to keep track of and I'm regretting this already.
Now we need to discover how much our character hates anyone they might possibly meet in the game. It's fairly simple really, we just roll 3d10 for a race and then look at a table, then another table. This then tells us how racist we are to that particular race, with 1 being a preference for that race and a 5 is outright hatred.
Roll me 48d10 and I'll work out what races our character hates.

>>416309
You can, but only if you roll a 30 on your individual racial hatred to beat the inherit natural preference towards your own race. We nearly got it with a 29 roll.
Looking at the chart and our results. It seems we either hate or dislike everyone! How wonderful, we've barely even begun and we've already got a character who'd be guaranteed to start fights with any other PC we put next to them.
Next up we've got the Gender roll. Apparently the GM can decide not to make you roll this but fuck it, there are worse rolls without the option to choose. Rolling for our gender is realistic however, and that means tables- which means we need to take a quick detour in Chapter 6 to find the Offspring Gender Table.
Looks like we only need a simple 1d100 roll for gender! Any takers?

Hard to tell to be honest, there are 2000 different effects in total ranging from pointless to instant death for the caster (or the entire campaign in the case of accidentally casting Fatal).
Anyway, it's me again so lets get stuck back in. Yesterday we discovered our PC was a male kobold who hated everyone. Hopefully by the end of today we'll know a truly uncomfortable amount of information about his body. To start with we have something that seems fairly simple, the age roll to determine how old our character is. This doesn't change much, just completely controls how viable our character is as an actual PC able to interact in the world.
Looking at the table I need someone to roll 4d100 so I can divide by 5 and subtract 25 from the total. No, this isn't going to be the worst roll of the day.

It also means our 16 year old may actually be able to do things if someone were stupid enough to actually try to play a game.

Doing that and we geta BMI of 20.80729167, or 20.8 for short. Since that's 0.8 over the maximum ideal female kobold bodyweight of 20, we suffer a -8 pentalty to our bodily attractiveness.
After that we have a table on Body Part proportions... Which has nothing to do with character creation.
After that we have Most Attractive/Repulsive Feature.

Our feet are 10-11" long, we are right handed, our head circumference is 21.5364".
Next up are a bunch of drabs not related to character creation. Apparently tourettes syndrome is a disease rather than a mental illness, which seems a bit strange. Regardless, we are now onto chapter 3
Now things get interesting. Rolling for Sub-Abilities requires a fairly simple (10d100/5)-1 roll. There are four Sub-Abilities linked to every Ability and the results of those Sub-Abilities give us the values of that particular Ability. As there are 5 Abilities, that means there are 20 Sub-Abilities that we need to generate.
So far in character generation we've picked up a number of flat modifiers to certain sub-abilities such as bodily attractiveness, there are also percentile modifiers for sub-abilities from our gender. Usually age would also give us percentile multipliers but we don't need to worry about them since young-adults don't have any.
So a fairly simple roll batch here for once. I need 200d100 please.

Alright, so I've stuck the numbers into my spreadsheet and come out with some results. I'd explain to you what all 20 of the sub-abilities are but fuck it, they're all fairly self explanatory and this chapter has literal page after page of tables for each one so I'm not going to bother with that. If you desperately need to see them, go look up the links to the game on 1d4chan yourself.
Instead, a quick explenation of the pictures here. The first image is just the plain (10d100/5)-1 roll before I start applying modifiers, the second is the results of the first with modifiers applied and in the third I've used some spreadsheet settings to automatically highlight the results based on their values with green results being the best and red being worst.
FATAL, being 'realistic' uses a bell-curve for all sub-ability values that in theory works like IQ does with 100 being the average value for every sub-ability. This having been said, certain factors (race, gender, age being the biggest ones) can push our sub-abilities around, like what happened with our Strength going from a fairly average 100.8 to our weakest at 40.46. At this point we can't really change that, What we can do is re-roll our sub-abilities using an alternate method that gives an average of a whopping 115. We can only do this a maximum of 4 times however and each re-roll gives us a random mental illness to balance things.
So, someone looking at the results we've got, tell me if we're going to re-roll and which abilities we're looking at I need 5d100 for each re-roll and I'd suggest you pick based off of the "Unmodded Score" column in the second/third images as the "End Result" column is affected by a bunch of modifiers that will still apply to re-rolls.

...And I'm back for the third day. We've got a new chapter to start with and a completely 'new' mechanic- dispositions! Dispositions are a set of nine posibilities stemming from two different axes- completely different from D&D Alignments as here instead of being Good/Evil, Rule-follower/Rule-breaker we have Feels guile/Doesn't feel guilt and Rule-follower/Rule-breaker. Completely different!
Not that that matters though, as in true FATAL fashion we've got an unrelated table to roll on. Piety Points! It's time for us to see how devout our kobold is. Sort of.
You see, FATAL was originally going to have a book come out called Neveria which would come with a fleshed out setting for the game and include things like monsters to fight and dieties to worship. As far as I'm aware however, Neveria was never completed so several options on this table we can't really do anything about because we don't know what an Attonment Process is or the Tenants of any dieties we might be worshipping.
We're still going to roll though, give me 6d100. The first d100 is for our base piety and the rest determine if the various modifiers we can do come into play.

Bryon Hall is the guy who wrote this, was a statistician who wanted FATAL to be a 'historically accurate' RPG, hence why you'll notice a lot of footnotes in the book where he cites something to justify whatever. The problem is it's abundantly clear that neither history nor game design was a strong suit of Hall so we get a system rife with historical innacuracies and with tons of pointless minutae that don't really benefit the game at all.
Anyway, our base PP is 11, but we also have to add our Drive Skill Modifier and our (Health Skill Modifier*-1). I'm going to round our skill scores to the nearest full number here so Health counts as 102 rather than 103. Since our drive is so shit we have a -17 Skill Modifier which knocks our PP down to 1 (as you can't go under that). We are a proud fedora-wearing athiest!
I'll do the next batch of rolls in a minute as I'm pretty sure this post can't hold any more pictures.

Alright, Disposition time. Like certain other systems, your morality can affect what job your character has and is supposed to be something you roleplay as. Unlike those inferior games however, in FATAL your morality is randomly selected with up to four re-rolls which automatically give your character an allergy. Because obviously the last thing we want the play to be able to do is choose how they want to roleplay their character.
Audience participation time, 2d100 roll to discover our Disposition, if you don't like the Ethicality or Morality score then you can re-roll that particular one with another d100 roll as long as you tell me which you're re-rolling. I'll wait an hour after the first roll to give some time for re-rolls. Up to four re-rolls can be done.

I really don't see how. Hall doesn't seem to me to have been the type able to get in good with an SJW clique to shill his work and the game is about as politically incorrect as you can get. This is the game that once famously had a reviewer call it the 'date-rape RPG' with Hall later responding by pointing out that there were no rules for dating included. If this came out today you'd probably see a wave of news articles calling FATAL the official RPG of Gamergate (because that's still a thing, right) and how it typifies all the things wrong with toxic masculinity in tabletop RPGs.

Following that we have sexuality... Except only results under 5 count as anything except straight and between our species and breast size we have a +9 modifier.
Finally we have Debauchery, which is a thing we can get differing results for as we only have a +10 modifier.
Alright, I need between 1d100 and 3d100 depending on how many of these tables you want to roll on. If you roll multiple times I'll count the rolls in the order they appear in the book, otherwise I'll just take Debauchery.

An interesting note on the crimes section, only humans and kobolds have laws against homosexuality and for kobolds lesbians are considered fine and even encouraged. If you go up the thread and look at the table for sexuality however, you'll notice that at best only flat chested kobold girls can be gay, meaning that kobolds have laws criminalising a behaviour literally none of them ever engage in.

Speaking of not getting any choice in Occupations, as a slave our occupation is defined by a 1d100 roll. Note that as a slave if you read the last image on my last post you'll note that slaves never get to change their occupation, so make this a good one.
I need a 1d100 roll to determine what our characters job will be. No re-rolls.

We've rolled Chambermaid. Which from the description is kind of like a whore who also cleans your house. Of course, as a slave we aren't actually paid for the job and our sub-90 Common Sense sub-ability score means we should be ineligible for the job. However, since no clear advice is given on what this means I guess it just means we get beaten regularly for fucking up and thus never get any AP (XP) that could be used to level our character (slaves getting AP for mastering tasks and not getting beaten). Your roll has ensured that Nini the kobold chambermaid will be a level 1 forever- or at least until she gets killed by her owner mid strangulation-sex.
Congrats! To be honest, I get the feeling all the jobs would have screwed us over in some way. If anyone ever forced me to actually GM FATAL rules-as-written I'd probably require them to roll sociality near the start and re-roll their character from scratch the moment they rolled slave status.
Final stretch now, skills. FATAL has skills set up on a yearly basis, and you're supposed to buy skills relating to what your character would have been doing that year. As a 17 year old kobold we are a young adult so looking at things we've got 2 years as an infant, 5 as a child, 5 in puberty and 5 as a young adult to roll Skill Points for. Since kobolds start work at 6 we also need to roll 11 times to discover how much of our learning was in chambermaid-related stuff.
Looking at the table I need 7d8, 5d6, 5d10 and 11d100. Once that's done I'll choose the skills myself. This should be the last batch of rolls needed.

I don't think it's possible to force anyone to play FATAL in any capacity, seeing how it's fun once and a massive chore every next time. Hell, it's already a massive chore right now with some comedic elements.

There's a reason I only do FATAL characters on /tg/ about once a year. Memes aside, FATAL's biggest problem has always been its rules. An edgy game could at least have a cult following, but no-one wants to spend three hours rolling up a character only to find out the only role the character can have in the story is as a low-value quest reward.
34 Skill Points so far. Still need 5d6, 5d10 and 11d100

I really can't decide if this was 'tism or deliberately trolling the Proto-SJW goons who tore into the game.

Damn, they taught her good.
>Silence
What kind of a skill is that? I know it's a joke that women never shut up, but I'd never make that into a skill.
Also thanks for doing it. Presumably everyone who has thought about it, has been cured of ever wanting to play FATAL.

Silence is the "Move silently" skill, I figured that since she's never going to win any fights her best bet as far as not being abused constantly would be to avoid attracting attention. I'll be frank, when it came to skills I wasn't putting massive amounts of work into building an effective character or showing off the skills. FATAL has far too many skills given how rarely most of them are going to be used.
