Noticed that while there were threads for individual Trek video games, there wasn't a general thread up.

Thread should be self explanatory, discuss Trek Vidya, Mods for games, or games that would satisfy that Trek itch.

Here is the volafile link that often gets used. So far only Klingon Academy is uploaded but will add more games as good working downloads come available.

https://volafile.org/r/ck47j5am

>Why no Mega Link?

Mega is frankly shit; has a data cap and will delete files without warning.

Also since I cannot be bothered copypasta the BOTF thread, here's the link to it here

What's the consensus on the Starfleet Command series?

I have fond memories of it, but those are from back when I was little more than a teenager and had a poor grasp on mechanics or taste in general.

I do recall there being a lot of depth to it with an almost dwarf fortress like learning curve.

It's basically real time Starfleet Battles. If you understand tabletop you will do a lot better in it. It's not bad but I do think it is indeed rather overrated sort of like Bridge Commander.

Do you think Shatner regrets fighting the Gorn? When he did it he would have thought it was just another episode of the low budget sci-fi show he was in, but now that thing has been with him his entire life. The Gorn is probably the number one thing that normalfags think of when you mention Trek. He'll never escape it.

Trying to play bridge commander again is annoying. If I use the default options, I get black flickering on my monitor, as I don't think the game was built with widescreen in mind.

If I change the width and fullscreen and stuff it doesn't open and if I finally manage to get it into windowed mode, it runs fine but is still windowed, which I can't move. Wish there was a patch or something to fix this, don't have this much trouble with Armada 2.

If you never played it, you're really missing out. What bridge crew VR is, Bridge Commander is in single-player.

You play the CO of a ship and a star blows up and you and your crew take point on the investigations. You'll do battle with other ships and it has a quick mission thing which you can test out other ships of different races. It's really worth a playthrough for any trekkie fan.

The problem is for me the black flickering on my desktop. I can ignore it but it still looks weird.

Let's do a few more. There's Voyager: Elite Force. Basically Voyager gets sucked into a small region of space where it's engines are disabled. You play a member of a security team that tries to figure out the mystery there. Has all the voice actors from Voyager and has a special mode where you can walk around the ship and collect secrets. Uses the Quake 3 engine, so it's pretty fun MP wise as well. EF 2 isn't as good as 1.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sARn-yt4Ygs

And there's the ST Armarda series which is the RTS side and is pretty good. 2 is what I've known but 1 has a better feel to it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2BRYuVQLVw

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKoZC-fPvFs

There's also the Armarda 3 mod for Sins: Rebellion. Basically remakes the game into Star Trek. Worth checking out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oR8xOGFWPhM

There's also Final Unity for next gen and 25th anniversary for the original series that might be worth checking out if you like either.

one of the things I especially loved about elite force was that they weren't exactly beholden to being utterly serious or grim. such as the mission where you are suddenly on a frankensteined space station made from afew different defunct ships including a birb of prey and a fucking mirror universe constitution class where you gotta sneak around and disguise yourself as a terran imperial. of you selected to play a female character you get the slutty miniskirt uniform.

I especially loved the mission on the bioship with the winged bat creature people. the whole area is incredibly alien and outlandish, with really strange security devices. it's built like a typical FPS arena map with mini teleporters and an area where the floor is lava and instantly kills you (it's an energy field designed to block your progress temporarily) but it makes sense because of the concept of the alien race, as well as being something you just could never afford to film on a tv show. your teammates are slowly picked off until you finally reach the reactor controls and the aliens can finally communicate and tell you how they didn't kill anyone they're just in stasis, and you start working together with the aliens to get around the energy dampening field.

you even get to fight the borg and species 8472 (they need a real name don't they) and between each mission you can get super cozy and just wander around exploring bits of the ship and chatting with people and it's very well realized.

Cardassians speak in walls of text whenever they can get away with it. It would be more like:

OBSERVE MAJOR! DON'T BE FRIGHTENED. NOW, COME AND TOUCH THEM FOR YOURSELF. YOU'LL QUICKLY REALIZE THAT THEY CAN NOT HARM YOU IN ANY WAY WHATSOEVER. YOU KNOW, THE CARDASSIAN GENITALIA ARE RENOWNED THROUGHOUT THE GALAXY FOR THEIR OBVIOUSLY SUPERIOR TURGIDITY AND EXQUISITELY DETAILED SHAPE THAT IS CAPABLE OF DELICATELY PROBING THE DEPTHS OF EVEN THE MOST INTRICATE FEMALE ORIFICES. I JUST SO HAPPEN TO HAVE SOME OF THE MOST PERFECTLY FORMED OF THESE GENITALIA, EVEN BY OUR EXACTING CARDASSIAN STANDARDS. IF YOU'LL JUST ADJOURN TO MY QUARTERS WITH ME, I CAN ASSURE YOU AN EXPERIENCE OF TOTAL PLEASURE THAT YOU WILL NEVER FORGET. I OFFER YOU A LIFETIME OF THE MOST AMAZING PASSIONATE INTERCOURSE TWO HUMANOIDS COULD EVER POSSIBLY SHARE.

It was a pretty popular arena shooter back in the day, the weapons, motions, powerups and maps were alot more fun to play than Quakes ones were. As for the ST plot, it's serviceable enough.

EF2 though just didn't feel as fun as the first however. The story for one would have you go out on a mission, then get some down time on Voyager talking to people, EF2 has you join Enterprise and bounce around a few planets. Kinda boring honestly.

It probably just lost its appeal. The space combat did feel vaguely like Trek, with the ability to redirect shield power and manage power levels and all that good shit, but it's still fundamentally MMO-style combat, which gets repetitive pretty quickly. The 'marks' system they had going was kind of interesting as endgame content at first, but it also got repetitive pretty quickly. For me, it was just a matter of having more interesting things to do. >there will never be an "the odd couple in space" buddy comedy featuring William Shatner and Mark Hamil as cranky old ex space heroes.

It's a utter shame.

>Not knowing that on Cardassia students treat their teachers with great respect as if they are a second parent

>Not knowing that teachers on Cardassia enjoy the privallege of mentoring a generation they view as their own children

I believe the Obsidian Order will be around shortly to dispose of this poor infiltrator. They might just release them out of sheer pity.

Still wondering what would be a good Trek game to play other than Elite Force. I just got to find a copy.

STO's single player is actually breddy gud, although the combat-heavy nature means it doesn't always feel very trekky.

Pls. I used to play it a few years ago, didn't spend any money on it. It got boring fast.

Okay, maybe "breddy gud" is generous. But it could have done a lot worse (the combat actually feels vaguely like star trek with the redirecting shields and power allocation and all that), and considering it's free you're getting a nice deal.

Not exactly a Trek game, but it has a steep learning curve and all complexity that all /strek/ anons could appreciate. The new round just started today and is only 5 ticks into play so you haven't missed much. Here's a sample setup guide in case you're interested in setting up an account. Some appealing aspects include social engineering, back-stabbing, team strategy, long hours calculating attack and defense, and eventually sleep deprivation; in some cases lose of employment due to poor workplace performance or tardiness may occur. I'm in a team already, but if the first person here that signs up wants to make a "STREK" alliance, that would be cool for others who may want to place, or you can also apply to other alliances in-game.

// About planetarion: The game has been around about 20 years. The game uses a seven week format with one tick per hour for a total of 1177 ticks of play. The amount of time invested is up to you, a support planet building defensively may only need to login a few minutes two or three times daily, while competing for top ranks requires considerably more planning and participation. Being a scanner is a medium between the two, you will need to login more frequently (preferably at the top of the hour) to process new incomings and other scan requests for your ally, but requires less overhead than full competition.

// Free vs paid account: Support planets can perform sufficiently with a free account. Scanners benefit from paid status as scans will be stored for long-term reference and not deleted after a few ticks. Top competitors will need the bonuses provided by paid status to compete for top ranks, but doesn't completely discount the possibility of a free account finishing in first place. In most circumstances, experienced players wait to "pop" their bonus later into the round as the bonus accumulates over time, so you are not immediately disadvantaged by playing free until you decide there is a need to upgrade your account.

// Provided below is a checklist of things to do setup your planet after creation, based on my choices for Round 80 as Eitraides
