It looks like the new Picard spin-off is going to be on Amazon Prime instead of Netflix outside of the US and Canada.

Bryan Fuller's alleged Picard/Data pitch:
>Romulus is being evacuated prior to the supernova that Spock was trying to stop in the JewJew movies
>Data, now a captain, is leading the rescue armada, but is trying to find a way to save more people
>Data enlists Seven of Nine and a bunch of Borg refugees to do "mass assimilations" which somehow saves more people (?) but also traumatizes them
>Starfleet questions Data's decision and believes he lacks empathy for organic life
>Picard, now an ambassador, is trying to relocate the Romulans. He is put into conflict with Data over his use of the Borg due to lingering feelings over being assimilated.
>Picard is also conflicted about the onset of Irumodic Syndrome and the possibility that Borg tech could help and/or cure it.
It seems like only a few bones of this story remains in the show at least based on the trailers and info they've released. Picard is now the one who led the rescue armada to Romulus and the trailer makes it seem like Data is still dead, at least at the beginning. And there's no mention of the Macguffin girl or Picard having to go rogue with his new Firefly crew in Fuller's version.

I'll take a guess that maybe this tricked the borg into using their ships to evacuate them. That or it made them super easy to pack like sardines into the available ships.

>a couple of potentially interesting ideas
>seems to be majorly focused on the diverse races of the ST universe rather than just being all about the blacks and the gays
>no major violations of canon, at least as far as I can tell yet
>it's not just another pointless middlequel about a time period no one ever asked to see
>rumours saying Kurtzman has been relegated to more of a ceremonial role
It's potentially got legs to stand on, if they can manage not to drop every ball. That's a big "if", I know.

Yeah, a typical case of "writers did not do their research" combined with "Hollywood is the entire world. Dogs with cropped ears or docked tails are unheard of in Europe (and, though we can't see the back end of this dog, $50 bucks that he's also been neutered) even in this day and age, to say nothing of a century or two from now in the enlightened Federation.
Which also raises the point that it's TOTALLY IMPROBABLE that dog breeds would look the same as they do presently, centuries down the line, especially considered how easy it is for them to manipulate genetics. This would actually have been a fine opportunity to wrap an actual dog in green spandex and CGI in a breed of dog that is like nothing we've ever seen before, over its movements.

>do "mass assimilations" which somehow saves more people (?) but also traumatizes them
I'll take a crack at this one, just because it's probably a more interesting idea than what they actually came up with.
>Planet is going to be destroyed in minutes
>Ships can't carry enough of them even assuming they can be transported because it's fucking billions
>Send down Borg drones to assimilate everyone who can't be evacuated
>Their minds are now added to the collective
>Use transporters to "scan" those people's bodies without actually beaming them, saving the information
>Planet blows, the people are killed but their minds are still in the collective
>Use the transporter to recreate bodies for all the people who were killed
>Pluck their minds out of the collective and reunite them with the proper body (or the body of a loli, if you ask nicely)
Thing is, all of this is feasible from what's been established in Trek, but raises nasty philosophical questions about Ship of Theseus, mind/body dualism, persistence of consciousness, etc.. Many of them would question whether they were really still alive or merely cloned with the memories of a dead person. Not to mention there's the whole being ripped from a comfy mental collective (shadows of DS9's Great Link) and dealing with a life of permanent mental isolation thereafter. It was a pain in the ass rehabilitating Seven, and now you've got seven-billion more.

I'm actually interested in the destruction of Romulus, it means a shift in the power balance, while I will not be watching this new series, I want to see what happens to all that Romulan territory, and if it will spark any conflicts.
Also, is this Picard series taking place in the normal timeline, or the Jew Jew timeline?

In terms of storytelling, technically no. The distinction has more to do with merchandising rights.
However, considering STD is a flaming shit pile of canon contradictions and is stylistically and thematically divorced from the previous Trek properties, I'd say the distinction is there in the storytelling as well.

now that would be interesting! Hell they could make a 400lbs Mastiff, none of the joint issues and growth issues of current giant breeds.Or something that looks vaguely familiar just a little bit alien, maybe slit pupils and tusks or something. Something creative not just slap in modern French breed. (Although traditionally many vineyards did and do keep big molosser type breeds to deter grape thieves and control wild boars. In TNG times he could just have a selective force field to keep out boars and strangers though.
I guess the Dogue de Bordeaux is already popular enough for wanna be thugs and to cross into fighting dogs… It would have been nice for the Picardy/Picardy blue spaniel to be featured as it is endangered a breed that deserves to survive. Plus… the name. His family could have been breeding them for like 500 years as a link to their past etc., Etc. (There's a Berger Picard as well)

I see they upgraded the borg cubes to blue LEDs.
I had a small hope this wouldn't be terrible, I guess because I have a soft spot for Picard but this is going to be the same generic SciFi shit with the obligatory "REMEMBER THIS FOLKS?!?" nostalgia shoe-in. All-new STD tanked and they probably thought "shit this isn't working, we need to bring back the old characters, that'll bring the shekels". Obviously no old star trek episode was ever watched by a writer.
The saddest thing about this is that I was genuinely surprised the stronk womyn main character (let's not kid ourselves here, she will be) is not a peeohhceee but devilishly white. Somebody's gonna obviously lose some good boy points about this wrongthink.

How come nobody ever thinks about the Darth Vader approach? Cast a cheap, no-name younger actor as Data (make up some technobabble bullshit reason as to why he looks slightly different in the face, and then have Spiner dub over his lines. I think that kind of Frankensteining is kind of uncanny in a character driven show. Darth Vader is one thing. He's a guy in a mask who's supposed to look scary. If we're bringing Data back at all, I'd rather have Brent Spiner looking old, than some uncanny valley shit.

Data looks like he's storing nuts for winter. Well, Brent Spiner is in his 70s. (Yes, Data was in his 40s for the shows run, he just didn't look that old) Without some computer effects he'd be bound to look ridiculous in that makeup.
It shows how cheap the whole thing is, they just hope to pull viewers in with it, that's why these actors are there. Especially with Data it would be trivial to take some young actor and just claim that he got another body or something. Although it would've probably just been another homosexual soy manlet (which hollywood seems to consist of these days) and it would've probably been terrifying to see that. TNG/DS9/etc. were quite a big part of my teenage years and it's really sad to see that zoomers get this shit instead, but they're probably too busy playing fortnite and sucking each other off anyways. The golden age of the west is ending, hence this never-ending, self referential nostalgia
Patrick Steward looks and sounds really old and while people kept saying all these years "he never aged" it's quite obvious now that he did. He just seems.. frail. Even Shatner comes across better. (Seriously, watch some recent interview with him, he's as sharp and well-spoken as ever. Dude is almost 90 and does not look and act like it)
What we'd really need for a good space opera is a completely new franchise with new people and new stories but it's not gonna happen in the current climate. Instead we will get to see Spocks cousin twice removed fleshing out some stupid background story about some random utterance in TOS/TNG/whatever.

Some people are like that. Instead of slowly running down in their 70's and 80's and then fading into death, they're spry and active into their 90's and then one day just drop dead with zero warning.

A season is more like 20+ episodes (most TNG seasons were 26). It was also typical for more than one season to be planned at first, with even poorly-performing shows getting at least a couple before being cancelled.
But more to the point, a season is meant to be a certain number of episodes that fill a roughly year-long set of TV timeslots, not counting summer months and a few weeks around Christmas. But that's not how these streaming services work. They just release all the episodes at once, and not nearly as many as would otherwise be. I think Stranger Things' last "season" was just eight episodes. It's entirely probable, should this series not be very popular, for it to last only one "season" and be less than ten episodes.
