It's not complicated.
LL wanted to be what Twitter or Facebook became but with 3d creativity stuff for ~reasons~ but wound up running a virtual cathouse and internet weirdo colony.
They don't like this.
But it makes them money so they don't want to rock the boat too hard in the hopes the meal ticket holds out until they can find something else that makes money or find somewhere else to be.

Let’s not kid ourselves. SL lost all mainstream appeal once dog dongs started being made. Too much stigma attached to it now. Companies no longer want to flirt with the idea of promoting their products on SL. News and entertainment outlets no longer want to cover SL. Fixing all the bugs and technical problems wouldn’t have attracted a wider audience because of all the negative stigma attached to SL now. Funny thing is LL had nothing to do with this. The community decided what it wanted to be and it decided it wanted to be a cesspool of degeneracy and dog dongs, losing all marketability and mainstream appeal in the process.

before there was the www, people wrote perverted shit, conspiracy theories and faggot ERPing on newsgroups. This didn't stop the internet from becoming popular.
In the early www there was CP everywhere, this also didn't stop it from becoming relevant.
Remember what the initial hype about SL and the metaverse was about? People thought that it would replace the www, just like the www replaced newsgroups. They didn't think about it as a simple 3d chat and they didn't think about it as a social media site (at that point in time people got told to never use their real name in the internet ever, the internet was anonymous) or game.
That hype ended when companies realized that this high goal can never be reached.
SL is not an open protocol, it's as closed as it can get. You can't run your server, you have to rent shit from LL, you have tons of legal issues because you totally depend on LL ToS.
This is the reason why companies left.

yeah nah on all accounts. the only thing yiffalicious has over SL is that it's a purpose-built engine for humping so there's actual penetration mechanics instead of having the models clip into each other with awkward animations. and while yiffalicious is being remade with pretty robust character customization options, it's never EVER going to compete with being able to make whatever the hell you want in blender/maya.

1) doing one thing better than SL doesn't make yiffalicious better despite it being a key element.
2) it seems like you didn't really read what I wrote. so again, it doesn't matter how robust yiffalicious's character creation is, because it's limited to a finite amount of options where as creating stuff from scratch in blender or maya is very much less so. referencing a conversation from 2015 only brings to light something I was sparing the thread, in that yiffalicious is borderline in development hell after abandoning their original proposal like 2 years ago and remaking/recoding a very large portion from scratch again. last I checked yiffalicious already had a working prototype character creator so your second point is moot anyway.

DX was only the "modern standard" because (((Microsoft))) literally bought out and bribed many popula games studios in the early 2000s to have them use DirectX to help ensure themselves a safe monopoly. It's the same reason many public schools use Microsoft office.

why make it so you get even less L$ per USD in a game where creators already want $20 for just a head you technically don't own ?
upping the cost of premium is also bad move, I know people already planning to cancel, others that were considering a sub and decided against it.
LL should be looking to monetized in different ways maybe letting people own land without being premium? they still got to pay fkn land fees either way?
also launch the resident rename feature already? how is it this thing announced over a year ago and still isn't here yet? I could made and tested a working solution within a week!
I know people dropped hundreds into game character services people will use the shit out of the rename service and even pay to have their partners names changed if LL let them! #goldmine

SL sex is so good because you can be exactly what you want to be and act out those fantasies. The store has so much content that you can find exactly what you want no matter what your fucked up fetish is. It's more or less like making your own porn.
But SL is like that because they were so good to content creators. I know most of you faggots like to copybot and steal shit, fine, whatever. But LL has been shitting on content creators for some time. They are not encouraging people to make more content for SL. Prices are diving, the L$ is getting weaker against USD. SL attracts a lot of shitty mesh creators who don't know what LODs are and use 1K textures on everything because the content creators who know better are in other places, like turbosquid, selling their stuff for $20 instead of $2. And now they are eating more into content creator profits by increasing commission and raising cash out fees even further.
Everyone has said SL is going to die for the past 16 years. But it stayed around because it had the content. And LL is pushing content creators away by making it not worth their time to make content there. And once SL loses its content advantage, it's fucked and it will die. The platform is a giant piece of shit, LL never wants to fix broken things. The only thing that keeps SL alive is the fact that all the content is there. The content is what keeps SL alive. It's why we see all those far superior alternatives come out and fail. They have no content and SL does.
LL's biggest problem now is that they are wanting to decrease land cost and offset that by raising cost on oy vey merchants. But if they did something that would bring in a ton of new users (like a proper Android client) there would be more volume on marketplace and lindex and they'd make more money without shafting merchants. And they could massively lower land prices.
Then again marketplace is broken as fuck half the time, search sucks, it loves to show you 10 year old bullshit instead of higher quality stuff, etc. Fuck I think LL could make a shit ton of money if they brought in actual ecommerce people to optimize the marketplace and get people buying stuff on there more than ever.
>>48982
Content creators don't even own their own shit either, read the TOS.
>>47940
Yeah, as other anons mentioned there are autistic as fuck people on SL who will go berserk if their 15 year old stuff stops working. And really, people usually spend real money on that stuff, people have a right to be pissed off if LL goes
>oh lol sorry you bought this but you can't use it anymore because of a new feature

>because the content creators who know better are in other places, like turbosquid
Most SL "content creators" do buy from turbosquid and equal plattforms and then upload and sell those things on SL.
This is the reason why there are so many models with shitty auto-generated LoDs and huge textures, because the stuff on marketplaces for 3d models like turbosquid is supposed to be in the highest possible quality, for rendering. If you want to use those things in a game, you always have to do optimization yourself, because the creator can't magically guess what your requirements are. Retopology, physics shapes, LoDs and texture details are up to the buyer.
Turbosquid is one of the major sources for laggy shit in SL.
Buying something and uploading it to SL will always be more profitable than creating something yourself -> actual creators can not compete -> some retards who do not know what LoDs are are ruling the marketplace.
And yes, i do not feel bad at all and have no moral problems with copybotting something from some jew who is just reselling.
If something is good quality and the creator is actually the original creator, i have totally no problem with buying it, because i can afford those 50 Cents.

There is truth in this, but I wouldn't say it is most creators. There's an overwhelming amount of original content out there that is made by the SL creators themselves… and they do a great job of making it terribly fucking unoptimized themselves.

There are a lot of people who spend time in SL and dream of making their own mesh, so they learn. There are two types of content creators in SL, ones that know what they are doing (very rare) and ones that have no clue what they are doing and want to make mesh because they are tired of in world building.
And of course, you have the turbosquid resellers who hack together mesh that wasn't designed for a game engine into a very shitty game engine that wasn't designed to be graphically demanding.
LL has let it get like this. And they are pushing away content creators who could be good because who the fuck wants to sell a mesh they spent 20 hours creating for $2? Specially when you have no idea if it will actually sell, because it's buried in search behind turbosquid dumps and 5 year old content.

The marketplace sorting and search is so god damn bad.
There is no way to sort by Ratings and Creation Date at the same time, you either get 8 year old shit that was rated good back than or you get some trashy current uploads. And then you always get that retarded stuff in between that has nothing to do with what you are looking for, but the creator dumped a keyword list in the description. Or something that actually is what you are looking for, but it's shit quality and you would like something else instead, but it's in the list 20 times because they sell it in 20 different colors.
idk how the fuck a new creator would ever manage to get his stuff visible. You just get burried.
