It does matter in every way. Your ethnicity reveals a high probability of how you likely grew up and rules out many options. Your ethnicity reveals your presumed social wealth. Presumed social wealth is determined by how succesful the civilization you trace back your ancestry to or at least where mainstream dna sites trace them back to according to the timeline they use. This is something literally everyone uses and determines the worth of you and your personal experiences. The economic index is the most powerful social index in the world. If you're a millionaire but from a Latin American shithole, you are nothing. Collective wealth determines your social standing. Would you like to hear someone from Mexican talk about their lawlessness or a Japanese person talk about pristine streets? Most people would ignore the Mexican because they have nothing good to offer. Having European features command respect. If you lose everything through poverty, a minority will bow down to you. You will have a baseline to rely on. Your individual traits pay less of a price than the collective safety net.
