Court: Trump Admin Can Cut Planned Parenthood Family Planning Funding

A federal appeals court held Thursday that the Trump administration’s rule that ends taxpayer family planning funding of abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood may take effect.

A three-judge panel of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted the Trump administration’s request to lift national injunctions, ordered in Oregon and Washington, and a statewide injunction in California, Politico reported.

The Protect Life Rule may take effect while court cases continue.

As a result of the rule, which marks a clear line between abortion and family planning, Planned Parenthood and other abortion vendors who wish to continue to receive Title X family planning funds would have to either end their abortion services from all locations that receive the Title X funding, or move those abortion services offsite to an entirely different location.

MSC Gayane Cocaine Bust: Affidavit Details High-Seas Rendezvous’ and Crew’s Effort to Conceal Drugs

New details are coming in about the massive cocaine bust in the Port of Philadelphia earlier this week, revealing an elaborate scheme involving members of the ship’s crew who used the ship’s crane to load the drugs during high-seas rendezvous’s with small boats.

This week’s cocaine bust on board the MSC Gayane Packer Marine Terminal in Philadelphia has blown up into one of the largest drug busts in U.S. history.

Authorities boarded the ship on Monday where they discovered some 16.5 tons of cocaine, worth an estimated street value of more than $1 billion, hidden inside shipping containers. While there, they arrested two of the ship’s crewmembers, Forofaavae Tiasaga, an able seaman, and Ivan Durasevic, the Second Mate, who admitted to their roles in the scheme in interviews with authorities. The details of the interviews were contained in a criminal complaint which included an affidavit by Homeland Security Special Agent Eric Mooney.

The affidavit revealed that Durasevic and Tiasaga, along with three other crew members, stood to be paid about $50,000 each for their respective roles in helping load and hide the drugs. It also showed that the ship was met by multiple small boats on at least two separate occasions during the ship’s previous voyage, and the drugs were loaded using the ship’s crane.

The Courier-Post has more of the details:

The vessel was leaving Peru when Durasevic got a call from the chief officer to come down to the deck. There, he saw nets on the port-side stern by the ship’s crane, according to the affidavit.

Durasevic said he and others, some of whom were wearing ski masks, pushed the nets containing blue or black bags with handles toward the ship’s holds.

“Durasevic stated that he knew the bags contained drugs, but he was unaware of what type,” the affidavit said.

While talking to agents, Durasevic identified Tiasaga as one of the crew members who assisted in loading the cocaine

Tiasaga “admitted to his role in bringing the cocaine onboard the vessel and helping to conceal it within legitimate cargo,” adding that Durasevic enlisted him into trafficking, the affidavit said.

The MSC Gayane took on drug cargo in open waters as it traveled between Central and South America, investigators said they learned from Tiasaga.

As the vessel proceeded southbound between Panama and Chile, it was approached by six boats during the night.

“Durasevic operated the crane to bring on numerous bales of cocaine that were wrapped in netting. Along with bales of cocaine were replacement seals, which would be utilized on the containers in which the cocaine was concealed,” the affidavit said.

Then, as the ship made its way northbound between Chile, Peru and Panama, another eight boats approached with cocaine to load onboard, according to the affidavit.

“All of the drugs, including what had previously been loaded onto the vessel, were taken below deck and concealed within containers.”

Both Durasevic and Tiasaga are accused of knowingly and intentionally conspiring to possess with intent to distribute approximately 16.5 tons of cocaine, a Schedule II controlled substance.

Unseen 9/11 Photos Bought at House Clearance Sale

June 19, 2019 Archivists who bought a stash of CDs at a house clearance sale found 2,400 photos of Ground Zero in New York taken following the 9/11 attacks in 2001.

They appear to have been taken by an as yet unidentified Construction Worker who helped to clear up the wreckage of the World Trade Center towers and surrounding area.

The CDs were in poor condition but the data was ultimately retrievable.

The archivists have uploaded the photos to Flickr.

The digital albums include images of Ground Zero itself taken both at ground level and from above, construction staff at work and the damaged interiors of the blocks surrounding the towers.

Nearly 3,000 people died when four hijacked airliners were crashed into the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.

Former Sec. of State Condoleezza Rice did an interview Thursday on NBC News‘s “Third Hour Today” program where they talked about a number of issues including the border crisis, the Mueller report, and the racism Rice experienced growing up.

Throughout the interview, NBC News journo Sheinelle Jones repeatedly kept trying to draw out Rice’s opinions on whether or not Trump should be impeached and what she thought of the Mueller report. Rice made it clear she wasn’t going to second guess Mueller nor Congress.

When Jones turned to questions about how things are today race-wise compared to how things were when Rice was a child, Rice wasn’t having it.

FBI Risks Public Safety By Losing Track of Foreign Criminal Informants It Brings Into U.S.

Dozens of foreign nationals with shady backgrounds have vanished from the FBI’s radar after the agency brought them to the U.S. to help with investigations. You can’t make this stuff up. The nation’s premier and “intelligence-driven” law enforcement agency can’t keep track of its own informants, who would otherwise not be eligible to enter the country because of their “association with criminal enterprises,” according to a federal audit released this month by the Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General. Keep in mind that the FBI claims to be one of the world’s premier security and crime-fighting forces and its mission is to protect the American people.

Under a special program, DOJ agencies such as the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms (ATF) can legally bring banned foreign nationals into the U.S. for law enforcement purposes. Various immigration tools are utilized in the process, including Significant Public Benefit Parole (SPBP), Deferred Action and S Visa. The foreigners often serve as confidential informants and witnesses in legal proceedings. To sponsor such a candidate, the agencies must request authorization from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to approve temporary legal residence. This requires the sponsoring law enforcement agency to certify that it assumes responsibility for the control and legal status of the foreign national, including monitoring the location and activities of the individual and ensuring notification to DHS upon sponsorship termination. That’s where the FBI drops the ball, loses track of the alien and fails to inform the agency created after 9/11 to keep America safe.

The audit reveals that in February 2018, DHS identified more than 1,000 DOJ-sponsored foreign nationals for whom DHS did not have current information. As of August 2018, DHS was still seeking information regarding 665 sponsorships. “In addition, during our audit, we identified a total of 62 sponsored foreign nationals who had absconded from DOJ control,” the agency watchdog report states. During the probe the FBI indicated to the inspector general that it lost track of 54 sponsored foreign nationals, but investigators found the others after digging around agency files. “We also found that the DEA and FBI systems could not be fully relied upon to track information for use in managing sponsorship expirations,” the report says. “For example, we identified records in the FBI’s system for which dates associated with various levels of application approval were either missing, out of sequence, or illogical. This indicates that the FBI’s system does not have sufficient data entry controls to ensure that records are recorded accurately.”

Incredibly, federal agencies repeatedly violate the program’s rules by failing to report to DHS when a foreign national has absconded or if the component no longer has a law enforcement use for the individual and the sponsorship should be terminated. “The sponsor must immediately notify DHS of the event and then provide the individual’s last known location and other relevant information,” according to the rules. “Failing to report instances of absconsion inhibits DHS’s ability to execute its responsibilities to locate and handle absconders,” the DOJ IG writes. “This is especially problematic for law enforcement-sponsored foreign nationals because these individuals often have criminal histories or are involved with criminal organizations. In other words, we’re not talking about boy scouts blending into communities. The audit spells out the obvious: “There are risks associated with these individuals remaining in the United States unsupervised and the public can be at risk.” Investigators also stress that the programs should ensure that when a foreign national is sponsored to enter or remain in the United States to assist in investigative operations or prosecutions, he or she is accurately tracked as required.
