That morning, FBI Director Jim Comey lied to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and to the American people.

Comey was well aware that President Trump was under illegal surveillance because Montgomery had already turned over to Comey’s FBI mountains of evidence confirming the existence of Brennan’s and Clapper’s illegal surveillance system.

On August 19, 2015, Montgomery turned over to FBI Director Jim Comey’s office 47 hard drives that he alleges contain over 600 million pages of documentation from Brennan’s and Clapper’s secret surveillance system.

Pastor who raped daughter, 14, gets light prison sentence because he is a man of God

A pastor facing life in prison for raping his 14-year-old daughter was shown mercy by a judge who was impressed by his alleged religious faith.

David Richards, 41, was sentenced to 12 years in jail on Thursday in Knox County Tennessee for raping his adoptive daughter – 60 years less than the maximum term sought by prosecutors.

As he handed down the lenient sentence, Judge Steve Sword cited Richard’s work as a pastor and the Bible study he began in jail as mitigating factors. Richards was found guilty of rape, incest, and sexual battery by an authority figure for abusing his daughter, Amber Richards, for two years beginning when she was 14, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.

Victims of sexual crimes are not typically identified in court, but Amber chose to testify publicly after her adoptive father was convicted in February.

She delivered a heart-wrenching victim statement Thursday, saying : ‘I wanted to throw my body away. Not a day goes by that I don’t, in some way, think of what he did to me.’ ‘I firmly believe if given the opportunity, he would victimize another girl,’ she continued.

Prosecutors said Richards abused his daughter for two years before she reported it to authorities. Upon investigation, forensic testing found traces of Richards’ semen on the girl’s bed frame. Richards, however, claimed that he was innocent as he took the witness stand in his own defense.

He said: ‘I stand before you convicted of crimes I did not commit. I simply believe the system just erred in this case.’ ‘I’m not sure why I’m here…but I assume it’s for his (God’s) purpose,’ he said. Richards was formerly a pastor at My Father’s House Church of God in Lenoir City.

In court on Thursday, more than 30 parishioners and friends sat on Richards’ side of the courtroom in a show of support. David Thomspon, who shared ministry duties with Richards, testified and expressed doubt at the charges, saying: ‘I find it impossible for me to believe he’s guilty of this.

His business needs him. His family needs him. Our church needs him.’ Under state law, all the charges Richards was convicted of could have been punished by only probation, except for sexual battery by an authority figure that carries a minimum of three years in prison. Richards is currently seeking a new trial.

Rudy Giuliani drops truth bombs: “Steele memorandum written in Ukraine”

After a full day of media hysteria, Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani announced Friday evening that he has canceled his trip to Ukraine. “I’ve decided I’m not going to go to Ukraine, Giuliani told Fox News’ Shannon Bream. He said that the reason he bailed is because he has discovered that the president of Ukraine is surrounded by political enemies and is convinced that he was about to walk into a trap.

Giuliani had planned “to visit Kiev and meet with president-elect Volodymyr Zelensky to ask that Ukraine pursue investigations into two matters,” the Washington Examiner reported:

… the origin of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and the involvement of Joe Biden’s son in an energy company owned by a Ukrainian oligarch. The New York Times opined on Thursday that “Mr. Giuliani’s plans create the remarkable scene of a lawyer for the president of the United States pressing a foreign government to pursue investigations that Mr. Trump’s allies hope could help him in his reelection campaign and it comes after Mr. Trump spent more than half of his term facing questions about whether his 2016 campaign conspired with a foreign power.

What the Times forgot to mention is that the reason Mr. Trump has been facing questions is because his team was set up by foreign spies. Giuliani was traveling to Ukraine to encourage the government there to get to the bottom of it.

Giuliani told Bream, “I wasn’t going to start an investigation — they already have an investigation of how Ukrainians helped the DNC and Hillary operatives to get, in some cases false, dirty information about the Trump campaign.” He also said he believes that parts of the Steele dossier were written in Ukraine.

Giuliani said that there were fears that the Ukrainian president-elect “would be surrounded by literally enemies of the president” who were involved in the 2016 Russia collusion hoax.

The chief justice of Israel’s Supreme Court on Tuesday made a speech in Nuremberg, Germany, that expressed implied criticism of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s planned judicial reforms and invoked the Nazi takeover of Germany in the 1930s.

“History is not repeating itself,” Esther Hayut clarified at an event hosted by the Israeli German Lawyers Association, “but it gives us the opportunity to learn from it and enables us to see patterns and judge for ourselves.”

A report by the Haaretz daily on Monday said the prime minister was planning to promote a bill that would allow the Knesset to ignore the Supreme Court’s administrative rulings, and would also permit parliament to resubmit laws that have been struck down by the court in the past.

It would thus prevent the court from overturning both Knesset legislation and government decisions on constitutional grounds. According to the report, the planned bill will be included in a legal annex to coalition agreements and government guidelines.

Netanyahu later in the day railed at the “misleading” and “distorted” media reports, but indicated that he thought the bench should not be able to strike down legislation.

Jeffrey Epstein’s Purchase From Department of Justice May Be Voided

Jeffrey Epstein, a 66-year-old billionaire hedge fund manager, sexually assaulted dozens of underage girls at his Palm Beach mansion in the 2000s. His wealth allowed him to make a handsome purchase at that one-stop shopping center that sells justice to the rich – the Orwellian-named Department of Justice.

At the time the government sold Epstein his justice, in 2008, the FBI had identified three dozen girls, most between 13 to 16 years old, who gave Epstein massages that turned into sex acts. He and others had a recruitment plan, which resembled a pyramid scheme, to get children to his mansion.

Instead of being federally prosecuted on sex trafficking charges and, if convicted, sent to prison for life, Epstein was allowed to plead guilty in state court to prostitution charges. He served 13 months in the Palm Beach County jail and, while there, was given work release that allowed him to come and go from jail almost daily. He was freed in 2009.

Former Miami federal prosecutor Alexander Acosta, who is now President Trump’s secretary of labor, negotiated the sale to Epstein – crafting a secret non-prosecution deal in 2008.

The total cost to Epstein is unknown but I would hazard a guess that it cost him north of $10 million – a fraction of his wealth – and was distributed in various nooks and crannies, where cash placed in pockets is better than seeing an old perv in prison.

Last November, the Miami Herald published a series, “Perversion of Justice,” [It might have been titled “Sale of Justice”] that revealed how Acosta and other prosecutors worked to concoct and conceal the deal and revealed the extent of Epstein’s crimes [which was planned to be kept secret to avoid public scrutiny and prevent victims from opposing the deal.] The Herald’s investigation identified 80 women who were possible underage victims of Epstein, located around the world.

The Herald has not uncovered the actual purchase price paid for justice, and who got what, but it is evident, from their report, that Epstein’s wealth – and his wealth alone – allowed him to buy a commodity often sold at the Department of Justice – freedom.

Venezuela security forces block opposition lawmakers from entering parliament

CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuelan security forces prevented opposition lawmakers from entering the parliament building for a session on Tuesday, a week after the top court stripped several lawmakers of their immunity amid a political crisis in the South American country.

Members of the Sebin intelligence service, wearing masks and carrying long guns, together with members of the national police and the military blocked the entrance and were investigating the possible presence of an explosive device inside the National Assembly building, lawmakers said.

Last week, one opposition lawmaker was arrested and several took refuge in foreign embassies in Caracas or fled the country as President Nicolas Maduro cracked down on allies of opposition leader Juan Guaido, following a failed effort to convince members of the military to rise up against Maduro in late April.

Guaido, the leader of the opposition-controlled Assembly, in January invoked Venezuela’s constitution to assume an interim presidency, arguing Maduro’s 2018 re-election was illegitimate. More than 50 countries have recognized him as the country’s rightful leader, and say the assembly is its last remaining democratic institution.

“This is all part of a show to prevent the National Assembly from functioning,” lawmaker Juan Pablo Guanipa told Reuters. “This is a dictatorship that goes after dissidents, and we are fighting for a political change.”

Venezuela’s information ministry, which handles media inquiries on behalf of the government, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Maduro, a socialist, calls Guaido a puppet of the United States seeking to oust him in a coup.

The government stripped the assembly of most of its powers after the opposition won a majority in 2015 elections. Lawmakers loyal to Maduro generally do not attend the sessions, but go to meetings of the constituent assembly, a legislative “superbody” created in 2017 that meets in the same building on Wednesdays.

The “superbody” is an all-powerful legislature controlled by the ruling Socialist Party and whose powers supersede those of the National Assembly.

Tuesday’s session was scheduled for 10 a.m. (1400 GMT), but never began. The lawmakers were set to discuss the Supreme Court’s stripping of several of their colleagues’ parliamentary immunity and the arrest of Edgar Zambrano, the Assembly’s vice president and an outspoken critic of Maduro.

Opposition lawmaker Jorge Millan told reporters the report of “bombs” in the building was false.

“It is a trick to prevent the parliament from functioning today,” he said. “If we do not have a session today, we will do it tomorrow.”

Hacer Puente is under investigation by federal prosecutors after the testimony of two women led to suspicions that adopted children from the Central American country were simply taken from their mothers and made to appear as orphans by the organisation.

Bernard Sintobin, who was appointed interim director of the Belgian branch of UNICEF only last week, was asked to step down from his functions on Sunday by Eddy Boutmans, president of the United Nations fund.

The decision comes after a series of Tweets circulated by Dutch television reporter Eric Goens linked Sintobin to a federal investigation into an adoption fraud case.

The case concerns a Hacer Puente, a Belgian-based nonprofit where Sintobin formerly led the treasury department and which coordinates adoptions between Belgium and developing countries —Guatemala in particular.

Hacer Puente is under investigation by federal prosecutors after the testimony of two women led to suspicions that adopted children from the Central American country were simply taken from their mothers and made to appear as orphans by the organisation.

One of the testimonies is from a 30-year-old woman who was brought to Belgium as a 1-year-old and who reportedly found her parents were still alive in Guatemala, according to De Morgen.

While Boutmans cites these “serious accusations” as the reason behind his decision, he nevertheless says he has full confidence in Sintobin.

"The president is personally convinced that Bernard Sintobin is a man of good faith and is not implicated in the case of fraudulent adoptions," according to the statement.

UNICEF Belgium spokesperson Philippe Henon told Sintobin is not aware of being personally implicated in the ongoing investigation into Hacer Puente.

During the time that Sintobin oversaw the nonprofit’s treasury, around a hundred adoptions were coordinated by Hacer Puente.

The Propaganda Multiplier: How Global News Agencies and Western Media Report on Geopolitics

This study was originally published in 2016.

Introduction: “Something strange”

“How does the newspaper know what it knows?” The answer to this question is likely to surprise some newspaper readers: “The main source of information is stories from news agencies. The almost anonymously operating news agencies are in a way the key to world events. So what are the names of these agencies, how do they work and who finances them? To judge how well one is informed about events in East and West, one should know the answers to these questions.” (Höhne 1977, p. 11)

A Swiss media researcher points out:

“The news agencies are the most important suppliers of material to mass media. No daily media outlet can manage without them. () So the news agencies influence our image of the world; above all, we get to know what they have selected.” (Blum 1995, p. 9)

In view of their essential importance, it is all the more astonishing that these agencies are hardly known to the public:

“A large part of society is unaware that news agencies exist at all … In fact, they play an enormously important role in the media market. But despite this great importance, little attention has been paid to them in the past.” (Schulten-Jaspers 2013, p. 13)

Even the head of a news agency noted:

“There is something strange about news agencies. They are little known to the public. Unlike a newspaper, their activity is not so much in the spotlight, yet they can always be found at the source of the story.” (Segbers 2007, p. 9)

“The Invisible Nerve Center of the Media System”

So what are the names of these agencies that are “always at the source of the story”? There are now only three global agencies left:

The American Associated Press (AP) with over 4000 employees worldwide. The AP belongs to US media companies and has its main editorial office in New York. AP news is used by around 12,000 international media outlets, reaching more than half of the world’s population every day.

The quasi-governmental French Agence France-Presse (AFP) based in Paris and with around 4000 employees. The AFP sends over 3000 stories and photos every day to media all over the world.

The British agency Reuters in London, which is privately owned and employs just over 3000 people. Reuters was acquired in 2008 by Canadian media entrepreneur Thomson – one of the 25 richest people in the world – and merged into Thomson Reuters, headquartered in New York.

In addition, many countries run their own news agencies. However, when it comes to international news, these usually rely on the three global agencies and simply copy and translate their reports.

A judge ruled there is enough probable cause for Joseph Davis to go to trial on 24 counts, surrounding five victims.

The lead detective testified that during their search of Davis’ home they found what seemed like trophies in his bedroom: laminated photos of child pornography on his walls, with a name on the back of each picture.

They've identified 12 of the victims, but they still do not know the names of a dozen others.

An investigation is underway for a man accused of sex crimes against children, allegedly taking place for more than three decades. During an 11 News investigation, we learned a tip against the suspect came in almost nine years ago and flew under the police department's radar.

After 11 News started asking questions, CSPD said they are doing an internal review of the case dating back to 2010. 11 News also learned on Monday his adult son was arrested in connection to his father's alleged crimes. His son has since bonded out of jail and is facing charges of accessory and tampering with evidence.

11 News uncovered the suspect in the case, Joseph Davis, served prison time in the 70s and 80s for sex crimes against children.

Colorado Springs police publicly announced the arrest of 67-year-old Davis on Wednesday. Authorities were called to an address in the 900 block of East Fountain Boulevard on Dec. 12 for a sexual assault case. The neighborhood is just southwest of Memorial Park. Dec. 12 is when police say they started their investigation into Davis.

This wasn't the first time authorities were alerted about the alleged criminal activity. About nine years ago, there were claims Davis had raped a different child, according to arrest papers obtained by 11 News. That case is still open. In May of 2018, inappropriate pictures of kids were reportedly seen on the suspect's Instagram account.

11 News reporter Jessica Leicht asked police spokesperson Lt. Howard Black if this suspect fell through the cracks all these years. He said he was looking into it.

"I was flabbergasted, I had no idea," said Jason Mcaden, a neighbor of Davis'. "I was curious where he lived at."

The latest allegations had been made against Davis claiming he initiated sexual contact with a child. Police say probable cause was established for the arrest on Dec. 18 for sexual assault on a child. Davis was in custody as of Wednesday.

During the course of the investigation, detectives found evidence that indicated ongoing sexual abuse of other children and the production of child pornography going back at least 35 years.

Police say Davis lived near a school, community center and park. To date, detectives have contacted and interviewed a number of witnesses and potential victims. Detectives are still interested in speaking with others who may have had contact with Davis at or near his residence.

Arrest papers go on to state Davis sexually assaulted a 10-year-old boy at his home multiple times. The young victim reportedly told police Davis also showed him nude pictures of other children. That child said Davis would claim to be the "son of God," and knew when everyone dies. The victim also said Davis threatened to kill his mom.

11 News stopped by the home of Davis to see if they had a comment on the case. His family declined to talk about the charges.

As of Wednesday, Davis was being held in jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond

“What the agency does not report, does not take place”

The central role of news agencies also explains why, in geopolitical conflicts, most media use the same original sources. In the Syrian war, for example, the “Syrian Observatory for Human Rights” – a dubious one-man organization based in London – featured prominently. The media rarely inquired directly at this “Observatory”, as its operator was in fact difficult to reach, even for journalists.

Rather, the “Observatory” delivered its stories to global agencies, which then forwarded them to thousands of media outlets, which in turn “informed” hundreds of millions of readers and viewers worldwide. The reason why the agencies, of all places, referred to this strange “Observatory” in their reporting – and who really financed it – is a question that was rarely asked.

The former chief editor of the German news agency DPA, Manfred Steffens, therefore states in his book “The Business of News”:

“A news story does not become more correct simply because one is able to provide a source for it. It is indeed rather questionable to trust a news story more just because a source is cited. () Behind the protective shield such a ’source‘ means for a news story, some people are quite inclined to spread rather adventurous things, even if they themselves have legitimate doubts about their correctness; the responsibility, at least morally, can always be attributed to the cited source.” (Steffens 1969, p. 106)

Dependence on global agencies is also a major reason why media coverage of geopolitical conflicts is often superficial and erratic, while historic relationships and background are fragmented or altogether absent. As put by Steffens:

“News agencies receive their impulses almost exclusively from current events and are therefore by their very nature ahistoric. They are reluctant to add any more context than is strictly required.” (Steffens 1969, p. 32)

Finally, the dominance of global agencies explains why certain geopolitical issues and events – which often do not fit very well into the US/NATO narrative or are too “unimportant” – are not mentioned in our media at all: if the agencies do not report on something, then most Western media will not be aware of it. As pointed out on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the German DPA: “What the agency does not report, does not take place.” (Wilke 2000, p. 1)
