How does pimeyes work so well? Its false positive rate is very low. I've put in random pictures of people I know, and it's usually found other pictures of them online….not someone who looks like them, but the actual person in question. Given the billions of pictures of people online this seems pretty remarkable.

Using Pim Eyes and Amazon Rekognition for facial recognition to find relatives

I would suggest a three step process for anyone looking for a relative. One - upload a photo to “Pim Eyes” (an online app) of the relative’s face. If there are any matches, then create a free Amazon Rekognition account. There is a feature that’s free called facial comparison. If it’s above 95% then there’s a strong chance it’s either the same person or a close family relative. Law enforcement has their own patented version of it which of course we don’t have access to. There’s also a facial analysis feature whereby Recoknition will tell you the approximate age range of the face. The feature was able to match my grandma’s childhood face to her middle aged face with 99% accuracy so I could identify her in a photo of 35 people. It takes patience and some tech skills and you have to use your camera feature on an iPhone to “zoom” in and take a close up of a face in a group photo for Rekognition to use, it needs a solo face. But I was able to identify that a woman raised in Germany as a young woman, had in fact likely been taken from Estonia as a 12 year old, using this method, in less than 5 minutes. All by looking at museum photos on an Estonia site, which Pim Eyes found in under two minutes as a match. New technology cuts through many secrets. Using the information on the Estonian museum website, I then looked up the lady’s name on the Estonian Second World War memorial website to verify the county and name of the abducted child.
