Another cruise ship nightmare is making headlines and this time, more than 100 passengers and crew members reportedly fell ill aboard the Caribbean Princess during a norovirus outbreak.
Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that causes acute gastroenteritis, the inflammation of the stomach and intestines.
Often called the “stomach flu” or “stomach bug,” it is unrelated to influenza. It causes sudden, severe vomiting and diarrhea, with symptoms typically lasting 1 to 3 days. It spreads rapidly via contaminated food, water, or surfaces.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Vessel Sanitation Program, 102 of 3,116 passengers (3.3%) and 13 of 1,131 crew members (1.2%) reported violent vomiting and diarrhea during the ship’s current 13-day Caribbean voyage.
The outbreak was officially reported to the CDC on May 7, 2026.
The ship departed Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on April 28 and isn’t scheduled to return until May 11.
This marks the fourth gastrointestinal illness outbreak tracked by the CDC on cruise ships so far in 2026 and the second involving a Princess Cruises vessel.
According to the CDC, Princess Cruises has been forced to ramp up emergency sanitation protocols, including intensified cleaning and disinfection, isolating sick passengers and crew, collecting stool samples for testing, and consulting with federal health officials in an attempt to contain the outbreak.
Princess Cruises also said the vessel will undergo a full deep cleaning when it returns to Port Canaveral.

Their condition is not known.
The boat exploded near the sandbar at Haulover Beach, in Miami-Dade, Florida, according to fire officials.
First responders arrived to the scene with multiple burn victims, some of them were still in the water.
Some of the injured patients were airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center and Burn Center, The Miami Herald reported.
A child was among the injured.

Yesterday (9), Starmer was still trying to pull a Hail Mary move by bringing former PM Gordon Brown into his administration for a top spot.
But it’s unclear how effective this will be since the challenges to his premiership will start on Monday.
Starmer is facing a ‘stalking horse’ leadership challenge, in which ‘a Labour MP will move against him by Monday unless ministers acted first’.

President Donald Trump was asked by a reporter on Friday whether he would reconsider rejoining the World Health Organization in light of the ongoing hantavirus outbreak aboard a cruise ship.
The question came as Trump was speaking to the press on the South Lawn of the White House while departing for an event in Sterling, Virginia.
A reporter pressed the President on the hantavirus situation, beginning with asking if he had an update on the virus.
“We have it,” Trump responded. “We have very good people looking at it. It seems to be okay. They know the virus very well. They’ve worked with it for a long time.”
The president continued, “They know it very well, not easy to pass on. So we hope that’s true.”
In a follow-up question, the reporter added, “On the hantavirus– Will you reconsider leaving the World Health Organization because of the outbreak of hantavirus?”
“No, we seem to have things under very good control. They know that virus very well. It’s been around a long time,” Trump asserted.

The 2026 National Defense Strategy prioritizes key terrain in the Western Hemisphere from the Arctic to South America as vital for homeland defense and strategic competition.
The Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. Eric Smith, stated that “the Arctic is a region of growing strategic importance. The Marine Corps must be prepared to operate and win in its extreme conditions. Statistics Canada sold an advance copy of a national hate crimes report to the Department of Canadian Heritage for $72,000, granting officials early access for “feedback.”
Blacklock's Reporter says the confidential agreement between Statistics Canada and Department of Canadian Heritage allowed a designated official in Heritage Minister Marc Miller’s department to review the report Police-Reported Hate Crimes In Canada prior to its public release.
According to the Letter Of Agreement, the review was intended to provide feedback on “fact or presentation,” though the department was also invited to offer input on the “design and content” of statistical tables.
Statistics Canada spokesperson Jasmine Emond said the document was tightly controlled and not broadly distributed, emphasizing that only one contact was authorized to review the draft under strict confidentiality rules.
The agency has denied any political interference in the report, which was released March 30 and stated that hate crimes in Canada remained stable overall.
However, the published report did not highlight that Jewish Canadians were the most targeted group by police-reported hate crimes, with 920 incidents recorded.
That figure exceeded incidents targeting black Canadians (873), Arabs and Asians (816), sexual minority individuals (658), Muslims (229), Catholics (61), and indigenous Canadians (59), despite Jews representing less than 1% of the population.
Internal records show Statistics Canada considered the report a high-profile release. A staff memo described it as a “highly anticipated” publication used by law enforcement, policymakers, non-governmental organizations and media, as well as international bodies including the United Nations.
The memo noted the data plays a role in shaping criminal justice policy and informing public debate on hate-motivated offences.
Separate records indicate the Department of Canadian Heritage was actively monitoring online discourse related to the Israel-Hamas conflict at the time.
A June 19, 2024 memo referenced tracking social media posts expressing what it described as “a staunch pro-Israel position,” including narratives linking support for Palestinian civilians to support for Hamas.
Miller has previously been outspoken on the conflict, criticizing Israeli military actions in Gaza and calling for faster processing of special immigration permits for Gazan refugees.

The agreement focuses on high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU), a type of nuclear fuel enriched to more than 10% uranium-235 that is expected to play a key role in powering next-generation reactors. Under the proposed arrangement, the European company would provide uranium feedstock to Quantum Leap Energy’s planned conversion and enrichment facilities, where it would be processed into HALEU and potentially deconverted before being delivered back to the partner.
The PR says that the companies said they will conduct technical and economic assessments to determine whether a long-term commercial partnership is viable. Those evaluations will examine production scalability, operational requirements, costs, and potential business models.
The memorandum runs through Dec. 31, 2030, though either party can terminate it earlier. Quebec is incentivized to keep its hydroelectricity rates artificially low in order to keep receiving the largest share of Canada’s equalization payments, according to a new study from the Fraser Institute.
Even a small hike in Quebec electricity prices would lead to billions more in provincial revenue, according to the report, released May 7. However, much of the gain would be offset by a sharp reduction in equalization payments.
“The data presented here show that Quebec faces strong incentives to retain low hydroelectricity rates because the financial cost of maintaining these inefficient rates is largely borne by federal taxpayers,” says the report.
Canada’s equalization program is intended to help provinces with weaker revenue-generating capacity provide public services comparable to those in wealthier provinces. It’s funded by federal tax revenues and distributes funds to lower-revenue provinces from a fixed national quantity that grows with nominal GDP under a method known as the fixed growth rate.
If one province’s equalization payment entitlement shrinks, the money is redistributed to those with relatively less revenue while the overall amount doesn’t change. Continue…

The park, known for its icefields and turquoise-blue lakes, will shut its gates to the general public from June 20 to 27 and from Sept. 8 to 30 to recognize “the importance” of the area to the Lilwat Nation and N’Quatqua, BC Parks said in a notice on its website.
