The rapid change in Ursula von der Leyen now starts to make sense. According to a press release [SEE HERE] from European Big Pharma, they recently had a meeting with the EU Komisar and threatened to leave Europe if the trade system is not renegotiated quickly.

President Trump is on the cusp of announcing a big change in tariffs against foreign pharmaceutical companies in an effort to get the manufacturing of medicines brought back to the USA. Details are soon to surface.

In a proactive move, the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA), went to the European Commission (EC) yesterday to hold talks with von der Leyen, calling for radical change and holding the threat of an exodus to the U.S. over the EC president’s head.

PRESS RELEASE – Today, CEOs of the research-based pharmaceutical industry issued a stark warning to President von der Leyen that unless Europe delivers rapid, radical policy change then pharmaceutical research, development and manufacturing is increasingly likely to be directed towards the US.

A survey of EFPIA member companies conducted last week – to which 18 international large and medium-sized innovative companies responded – identified as much as 85% of capital expenditure investments (approximately €50.6 billion) and as much as 50% of R&D expenditure (approximately €52.6 billion) potentially at risk. This is out of a current combined total of €164.8 billion in investments planned for the period 2025-2029 in the EU-27 territory. Over the next three months, companies that responded estimate that a total of €16.5 billion i.e. 10% of the total investment plans is at risk.

The US now leads Europe on every investor metric from availability of capital, intellectual property, speed of approval to rewards for innovation. In addition to the uncertainty created by the threat of tariffs, there is little incentive to invest in the EU and significant drivers to relocate to the US.

A senior Chinese official linked intrusions to escalating U.S. support for Taiwan

WASHINGTON—Chinese officials acknowledged in a secret December meeting thatBeijing was behind a widespread series of alarming cyberattacks on U.S. infrastructure, according to people familiar with the matter, underscoring how hostilities between the two superpowers are continuing to escalate.

The Chinese delegation linked years of intrusionsintocomputer networksat U.S. ports, water utilities, airports and other targets, to increasing U.S. policy support for Taiwan, the people, who declined to be named, said.

The first-of-its-kind signalat a Geneva summit with the outgoing Biden administration startled American officials used to hearing their Chinese counterparts blame the campaign, which security researchers have dubbed Volt Typhoon, on a criminal outfit, or accuse the U.S. of having an overactive imagination.

U.S. officials went public last year with unusually dire warnings about the uncovered Volt Typhoon effort. They publicly attributed it toBeijing trying to get a footholdin U.S. computer networks so its army could quickly detonate damaging cyberattacks during a future conflict.

The Chinese official’s remarks at the December meeting were indirect and somewhat ambiguous, but most of the American delegation in the roominterpreted it as a tacit admission and a warningto the U.S. about Taiwan, a former U.S. official familiar with the meeting said.

In the months since the meeting, relations between Washington and Beijing have sunk to new lows, locked in a historic trade war. Top Trump administration officials have said thePentagon will pursuemore offensive cyber strikes against China. Beijing has continued to mine its extraordinary access to U.S. telecommunications network enabled by a separate breach, attributed toSalt Typhoon, U.S. officials and lawmakers say.

The administration also plans to dismiss hundreds of cybersecurity workers in sweeping job cuts and last week fired the director of the National Security Agency and his deputy, fanning concerns from some intelligence officials and lawmakers that the government would be weakened in defending against the attacks.

Officials say Chinese hackers’targeting of civilian infrastructurein recent years presents among themost troubling security threatsfacing the Trump administration.

In a statement, the State Department didn’t comment on the meeting but said the U.S. had made clear to Beijing it will “take actions in response to Chinese malicious cyber activity,” describing the hacking as “some of the gravest and most persistent threatsto U.S. national security.” The Trump White House National Security Council declined to comment.

The Chinese embassy in Washington didn’t respond to specific questions about the meeting, but accused the U.S. of “using cybersecurity to smear and slander China” and spreading disinformation about “so-called hacking threats.”

During the half-day meeting in Geneva,Wang Lei, a top cyber officialwith China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, indicated that theinfrastructure hacksresulted from the U.S.’s military backing of Taiwan, an island Beijing claims as its own, according to current and former U.S. officials familiar with the conversation.

Wang or the other Chinese officials didn’t directly state that China was responsible for the hacking, the U.S. officials said. But American officials present and others later briefed on the meetingperceived the commentsas confirmation of Beijing’s role andwas intended to scare the U.S.from involving itself if a conflict erupts in the Taiwan Strait.

Harri Hursti, co-founder of Voting Village, noted that the list of vulnerabilities found was extensive but consistent with previous years.

While that issue was also raised during the meeting in Geneva, it was largely tabled to focus on the separatehacking into civilian critical infrastructure by Volt Typhoonbecause it is considered anunacceptable provocation, the officials said. The telecom intrusions, while considered a historic counterintelligence failure, are viewed as more akin to traditional cyber espionage that the U.S. also conducts against adversaries.

AChinese official would likely “only” acknowledge the intrusionseven in a private settingif instructed to do soby the top levels of Xi’s government, said Dakota Cary, a China expert at the cybersecurity firm SentinelOne.The tacit admission is significant, he said, because it may reflect a view in Beijing that the likeliest military conflict with the U.S. would be over Taiwan and that a more direct signal about the stakes of involvement needed to be sent to the Trump administration.

“China wants U.S. officials to know that, yes, they do have this capability, and they are willing to use it,”Cary said.

At one point Trump was convinced and agreed they should execute the task using the DHS after Flynn’s recommendation. But their efforts would be opposed by a handful of White House lawyers and advisers with raised voices determined to keep the president from giving in to that temptation. One of the moments of frustration was when Trump asked his lawyer “Why haven’t you shown me these letters?” To which Pat Cipollone answered, “I’m your White House lawyer. I’m not your campaign lawyer.” That’s when things went downhill.

After the meeting broke for a little bit, some from both sides reconvened for a bit, but without Trump. Eventually Byrne ended up leaving the WH thinking the plan has been decided upon and it was time to move forward, but later learning that Trump decided not to follow through with any action after taking advise from Rudy Giuliani. Patrick found out about the decision after speaking with Rudy and let him know, “Patrick, by the time you walked out, I went back and told the President, ‘You can’t go forward with this plan, absolutely can’t go forward with this plan. We’ll all end up in prison. And you can’t go forward with this plan.”

Sun glare and a required radio frequency change meant it was unlikely that the pilot of a LongRanger helicopter saw or had time to avoid a wedgetail eagle before the helicopter struck the bird, an ATSB investigation details.

The Bell 206L-1 LongRanger helicopter had departed a private property at Cattai, north-west of Sydney, for a short flight north to nearby St Albans on the morning of 9 July 2022. About 9 minutes into the flight, as the helicopter crossed Dargle Ridge at a height of about 500 feet above the ground, the helicopter struck a wedgetail eagle just below the front left windscreen.

“The pilot was likely startled by sighting the bird or the helicopter striking the bird, reacting via abrupt control inputs,” said ATSB Director Transport Safety Dr Stuart Godley.

“Unfortunately, these inputs led to the main rotor striking and severing the tail boom, and the helicopter breaking up in flight.”

RFK Jr. announces research effort into 'autism epidemic' with goal to find answers by September

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that about one in 36 children have an autism spectrum disorder.

ealth and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said Thursday the agency's research into autism will provide answers by September into what causes the disorder.

"We've launched a massive testing and research effort that's going to involve hundreds of scientists from around the world," Kennedy said during a televised White House Cabinet meeting. "By September, we will know what has caused the autism epidemic, and we will be able to eliminate those exposures."

Kennedy was likely referring to the testing and research from the "Make America Healthy Again" commission that President Trump ordered in February.

The commission is made up of Kennedy and other secretaries to look at everything from the rates of autism and asthma in children to how much medicine is being prescribed to them for ADHD or other conditions, according to Reuters.

One-in-36 children have autism spectrum disorder, according to the most recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report, in 2020, compared to 1-in-44 in 2018.

The agency has not declared autism an epidemic and attributes the rise , in large part, to increased awareness and testing.

Studies have shown that there is no link between developing autism spectrum disorder and receiving vaccines. Kennedy has long been a vaccine skeptic.

The nearly 700 pages of once-secret documents, obtained by Just the News, were recently turned over by FBI Director Kash Patel to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan after President Donald Trump ordered them declassified at the start of his second administration.

They provide the most extensive portrait yet of former FBI informant Stefan Halper, a Pentagon consultant and academic who, along with retired British intelligence agent Christopher Steele, was used by bureau agents to build the Crossfire Hurricane case against Trump and his advisers during the end of the 2016 election and the beginning of Trump's first term in office.

The memos confirm Halper was the source of one of the most sensational bogus claims to land in the FBI's probe in summer 2016: that Flynn had left a 2014 foreign meeting alone with Russia scholar Svetlana Lokhova when he was a three-star general leading the Defense Intelligence Agency.

FBI agents ultimately deemed Halper's account to be "not plausible" and "not accurate", but the bureau proceeded to investigate Flynn, kept paying Halper and continued to vouch for his veracity as a confidential human source codenamed "Mitch," the memos show.

For instance, a March 2017 memo showed the FBI's Validation Management Unit wrote that it "assesses it is likely HALPER is suitable for continued operation, based on his or her authenticity, reliability, and control.”

That memo makes no mention in its unredacted portions of the concerns about the account Halper gave about Flynn and Lokhova, which were confirmed in a memo from William Barnett, the FBI agent who handled the retired Flynn’s case in 2016 and 2017.

Paid more than $1 million

The new FBI records also show Halper was paid $70,000 by the FBI between August 2016 and the start of February 2017 — a time period spanning his activation as an informant targeting the Trump campaign and then the 2016 election and Trump’s inauguration. The FBI records also showed that the bureau had paid Halper “$1,181,064.44” from 1991 into early 2017.

Only three months into Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s first Supreme Court term, she announced a book deal negotiated by the same powerhouse lawyer who represented the Obamas and James Patterson.

The deal was worth about $3 million, according to people familiar with the agreement, and made Justice Jackson the latest Supreme Court justice to parlay her fame into a big book contract.

Justice Neil M. Gorsuch had made $650,000 for a book of essays and personal reflections on the role of judges, while Justice Amy Coney Barrett received a $2 million advance for her forthcoming book about keeping personal feelings out of judicial rulings. Those newer justices joined two of their more senior colleagues, Justices Clarence Thomas and Sonia Sotomayor, in securing payments that eclipse their government salaries.

In recent months reports by ProPublica, The New York Times and others have highlighted a lack of transparency at the Supreme Court, as well as the absence of a binding ethics code for the justices. The reports have centered on Justice Thomas’s travels and relationships with wealthy benefactors, in addition to a luxury fishing trip by Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. with a Republican megadonor and the lucrative legal recruiting work of the wife of Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr.

The book deals are not prohibited under the law, and income from the advances and royalties are reported on the justices’ annual financial disclosure forms. But the deals have become highly lucrative for the justices, including for those who have used court staff members to help research and promote their books.

Reversing Biden policies, Trump 'unleashing' energy potential in Alaska

This includes reinstating a program to make the entire 1.56-million-acre Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) available for oil and natural gas leasing.

In another reversal of Biden administration policies, the Trump administration is taking action to encourage energy production in Alaska.

In response to President Donald Trump’s executive order, “Unleashing American Energy,” Department of the Interior Secretary Doug Burgum issued an order, “Unleashing Alaska’s Extraordinary Resource Potential.” In it, he directs the Bureau of Land Management to reopen up to 82% of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska for oil and natural gas leasing.

In response, the BLM announced it “will pursue steps to expand opportunities for exploration and development in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska and the Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.”

“It’s time for the U.S. to embrace Alaska’s abundant and largely untapped resources as a pathway to prosperity for the Nation, including Alaskans,” Burgum said. “For far too long, the federal government has created too many barriers to capitalizing on the state’s energy potential. Interior is committed to recognizing the central role the State of Alaska plays in meeting our nation’s energy needs, while providing tremendous economic opportunity for Alaskans.”

This includes reinstating a program to make the entire 1.56-million-acre Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) available for oil and natural gas leasing. Doing so will “fulfill Congress’ intent in the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and advance American Energy Dominance, while maintaining strong protections for important surface resources and uses in the Coastal Plain,” the Interior Department says.

In Trump’s first term, his administration approved seven oil and gas leases in ANWR in January 2021. The Biden administration canceled them in late 2023, prompting lawsuits.

The Biden administration also restricted development on more than 50% of the ANWR, which directly impacted the Iñupiat North Slope community. In response, the community argued the administration was trying to “silence indigenous voices in the Arctic,” The Center Square reported.

The community has stewarded its ancestral homelands for thousands of years, predating the creation of the U.S. federal government, the Interior Department and the state of Alaska, they argue. They advocate for economic development projects in the North Slope, explaining that more than 95% of their tax base comes from resource development infrastructure. Tax revenue funds public school education, health clinics, water and sewage systems, wildlife management and research and other services that otherwise would not exist, they argue.

Last year, U.S. House Republicans passed Alaska’s Right to Produce Act to reverse Biden administration policies by establishing the Coastal Plain oil and gas leasing program to allow oil and natural gas leasing on 13 million acres of public land in the North Slope. The bill went nowhere in the Democratic-controlled Senate.

The BLM is also looking for ways to expand energy development in ANWR’s roughly 23 million acres, it says.

It is also taking action to move forward with the proposed Ambler Road and Alaska Liquified Natural Gas Pipeline projects.

In order to facilitate this, it’s revoking withdrawals along the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Corridor and Dalton Highway north of the Yukon River in order to convey the lands to state of Alaska, it announced.

Doing so will “help pave the way forward for the proposed Ambler Road and the Alaska Liquified Natural Gas Pipeline project, two projects that stand to increase job opportunities and encourage Alaska’s economic growth,” it said.
