Prosecutors successfully prosecuted nearly every other Patriot Front recruit, but the case against Thomas Ryan Rousseau encountered significant hurdles when the FBI declined to cooperate and withheld crucial evidence. This lack of cooperation from the FBI led to an inability to secure a conviction against Rousseau. Consequently, Judge John Cafferty was compelled to dismiss the case against Rousseau in November of the previous year. This situation raises serious questions: Why did the FBI protect Rousseau? Why did they refuse to cooperate with local prosecutors? Local police had handed over 37 cellphones, cameras, and USB drives belonging to Patriot Front members, totaling 3,500GB of data, to the FBI. After holding these devices for seven months, the FBI refused to return them to prosecutors, making them unavailable for the defense, who believed the devices might contain exculpatory evidence. When Rousseau's defense attorney contacted the FBI, they were directed back to the city prosecutors, who themselves were being stonewalled by the FBI. Ultimately, local prosecutors informed the judge that they lacked the legal authority to compel the FBI to return the evidence. As a consequence of the FBI's refusal to cooperate, the case against Rousseau was dismissed. Considering the full scope of the evidence, it becomes apparent that Thomas Ryan Rousseau is either an asset for the FBI/HSI (as an informant or in some other capacity), or he is an unwitting patsy utilized by the federal government to operate a honeypot. This operation is presumably aimed at entrapping individuals prone to extremist racist ideologies.

Voting was underway in France on Sunday in pivotal runoff elections that could hand a historic victory to Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally and its inward-looking, anti-immigrant vision — or produce a hung parliament and political deadlock.

The snap legislative elections in this nuclear-armed nation will influence the war in Ukraine, global diplomacy and Europe’s economic stability, and they’re almost certain to undercut French President Emmanuel Macron for the remaining three years of his presidency. He took a huge gamble in dissolving parliament and calling for the vote after his centrists were trounced in European elections on June 9.

The first round on June 30 saw the largest gains ever for the nationalist National Rally, which came out on top.

Voters at a Paris polling station were acutely aware of the the far-reaching consequences for France and beyond….

Reflecting the high stakes, people turned out in large numbers not normally seen for a legislative election, after decades of deepening voter apathy for such votes and, for a growing number of French people, politics in general.As of 5 p.m. local time, turnout was at 59.7%, according to France’s Interior Ministry, the highest at that time in the voting day since 1981. During the first round, the nearly 67% turnout was the highest since 1997.

The outcome is uncertain

The outcome remains highly uncertain. Polls between the two rounds suggest that the National Rally may win the most seats in the National Assembly but fall short of the 289 seats needed for a majority.That would still make history, if a party with historic linksto xenophobia and downplaying the Holocaust, and long seen as a pariah, becomes France’s biggest political force.

If it does win a majority, France would have its first far-right government since World War II, with 28-year-old party leader Jordan Bardella as prime minister.

If no party gets a majority, that would mean a hung parliament. The National Rally could try to form a coalition — though it has no natural partners among centrists and leftists — or Macron could try to pursue one with the center-left or name a technocratic government with no political affiliations.

No matter what happens, Macron’s centrist camp will be forced to share power — including possibly with a prime minister who deeply disagrees with the president’s domesticand foreign policies, in an awkward arrangement known in France as “cohabitation.”

Many candidates from his centrist alliance lost in the first round or withdrew, meaning it doesn’t have enough people running to come anywhere close to the majority he had in 2017 when he was was first elected president, or the plurality he got in the 2022 legislative vote.

Either a far-right victory or a hung parliament would be unprecedented for modern France, and make it more difficult for the European Union’s No. 2 economyto make bold decisions on arming Ukraine, reforming labor laws or reducing its huge deficit. Financial markets have been jittery since Macron surprised even his closest allies by announcing the elections.

Regardless of what happens, Macron said he won’t step down and will stay president until his term ends in 2027.

Pierre Lubin, a 45-year-old business manager, was worried about whether the elections would produce an effective government. “This is a concern for us,” Lubin said. “Will it be a technical government or a coalition government made up of (various) political forces?”

National Rally connected with voters frustrated with their leaders

Many French voters, especially in small towns and rural areas, are frustrated with low incomes and a Paris political leadership seen as elitist and unconcerned with workers’ day-to-day struggles. National Rally has connected with those voters, often by blaming immigration for France’s problems, and has built up broad and deep support over the past decade.

Le Pen has softened many of the party’s positions — she no longer calls for quitting NATO and the EU — to make it more electable. But the party’s core far-right values remain. It wants a referendum on whether being born in France is enough to merit citizenship, to curb rights of dual citizens, and give police more freedom to use weapons.

The euro, which had fallen, after Macron’ssurprise announcement of snap elections, climbed significantly on Monday, reported the Reuters. While Macron’s defeat in the France Parliamentary Elections could hold bad news for the country’s economy, investors fear a hung parliament could be far more worse, investors told CNN.

A hung parliament is when no single party or any existing coalition has the absolute majority. France ranks eleventh among all the other economies of the European Union, accounting for about 17.2% of the total GDP.

Here are the top points you need to know:

French President Emmanuel Macron announced a surprise snap vote, after being defeated by Mary Le Pen’s National Rally at the European Parliament elections on June 9. Any party or alliance needs 289 seats to win a majority at the National Assembly, where Macron fell short.

2. Usually the national assembly elections are held right after the presidential vote, but Macron’s surprise called for a big change in 22 years.

An accidental overdose: D.C. police also said on the day after the riot that Rosanne Boyland, 34, of Kennisaw, Georgia, suffered a “medical emergency.” The New York Times reported on Jan. 15 that Boyland died “in a crush of fellow rioters during their attempt to fight through a police line, according to videos reviewed by The Times.” That narrative was furthered by prosecutors pressing criminal cases against some of the rioters who said that as rioters clashed with police, Boyland “was dying after being trampled by the mob.”

But a month later, the D.C. medical examiner’s office released its conclusion that Boyland had died accidentally of “acute amphetamine intoxication.” According to the Washington Post, “The drug cited in Boyland’s death is addictive and can be prescribed to treat attention-deficit disorder and narcolepsy.”

Boyland’s sister told the Associated Press that a police detective told the family that Boyland — an avid Trump supporter who subscribed to Q Anon conspiracy theories — had collapsed while standing off to the side in the Capitol rotunda.

PARIS, July 7 (Reuters) - France's left-wing New Popular Front coalition won the most seats in the second voting round of parliamentary elections, leading pollsters said on Sunday, putting them on track for an unexpected win over the far right National Rally (RN) party but short of an absolute majority in parliament.

An IFOP estimate for broadcaster TF1 said the New Popular Front could win 180-215 seats in parliament in the second voting round, while an Ipsos poll for France TV projected 172-215 seats for the left-wing bloc.

An Opinionway poll for C News TV said the New Popular Front would win 180-210 seats while an Elabe poll for BFM TV projected a range of 175-205 seats for them.

President Emmanuel Macron's centrist bloc was seen narrowly ahead of Marine Le Pen's RN party in the battle for second place, according to these polls.

Two hundred and eighty-nine seats are needed for an absolute majority in the National Assembly, France's lower house of parliament.
