Intel Corp’s stock rose 1.1% in premarket trading on Monday after The Wall Street Journal reported it was in talks with Apollo Global Management Inc. to line up $11 billion to construct a new chip plant in Ireland.

The deal with Intel INTC, 3.76% could be finalized within weeks after Apollo outpaced rival firms such as Stonepeak and KKR & Co Inc. KKR, -0.57% for the deal, the report said.

Apollo’s High Grade Capital Solutions unit is leading the deal for Apollo.

The new plant is part of Intel’s plan to meet increased chip demand.

The potential deal with Apollo comes after Brookfield Asset Management Ltd. BAM, 0.63% inked a $30 billion deal with Intel in 2022 for a chip-making plant in Chandler, Ariz. Intel was to have a controlling stake in the Arizona plant.

Prior to Monday’s trades, Intel’s stock was down 40.6% in 2024, compared to an 8.9% gain by the Nasdaq NDAQ, 0.86%.

This is important b/c it is part of MEGA (Make Europe Great Again), a subset of MAGA. For reference, Amazon Web & Microsoft announced investments in France of $1B & 4B respectively this past week. Intel has already been awarded $8.5B for domestic production efforts

Embattled Democratic Senator Bob Menendez Goes on Trial Today in Connection with Bribery and Corruption Charges

The curtain rises on another chapter of legal troubles for corrupt Democrat Senator Bob Menendez (NJ) as jury selection commences Monday in a Manhattan federal court.

The 70-year-old Democratic Senator stands accused of receiving bribes in the form of gold and substantial sums of money, in exchange for wielding his political influence to benefit three New Jersey businessmen.

Menendez, along with two of the businessmen implicated, real estate mogul Fred Daibes and Wael Hana, maintain their innocence in the face of the charges. A third businessman entangled in the accusations has entered a guilty plea and is slated to appear as a witness against his former co-defendants.

In a related case, Nadine Menendez, the senator’s wife, faces similar charges; however, her trial has been deferred to July due to health issues, according to ABC News.

This recent trial is a complex matter that includes multiple gold bars, cash-filled envelopes, a Mercedes, among other items, which, according to prosecutors, were received by Bob Menendez and his wife, Nadine Menendez. They allegedly accepted these gifts in return for supporting a halal meat monopoly, favoring individuals from Egypt and Qatar, and attempting to interfere with a legal case in New Jersey.

1. Cohen denied committing various fraudulent acts to which he had pleaded guilty in federal court.

2. Cohen repeatedly testified that he did not seek employment in President Trump's White House, despite evidence from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York demonstrating that 'Cohen privately told friends . . . that he expected to be given a prominent role and title in the new administration.'

3. Cohen stated that he did not direct the creation of a Twitter account known as WomenForCohen, which is contradicted by statements from the owner of the IT firm that created the account for Cohen.

4. Cohen attested in his Truth in Testimony form that he did not have any reportable foreign government contracts, despite entering into two contracts in 2017 with entities owned in part by foreign governments.

5. Cohen's testimony at the hearing contradicted various aspects of his written statement submitted in advance of the hearing.

6. Cohen asserted that he committed crimes out of 'blind loyalty' to President Trump, which was contradicted by findings made by federal prosecutors and a federal court.”

Oil prices climb as traders weigh prospects for extension of OPEC+ output cut

Oil futures climbed in Monday dealings as traders weighed signs of soft fuel demand against expectations that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies will extend production cuts into the second half of the year.

* West Texas Intermediate crude for June delivery CL.1, 1.37% CLM24, 1.37% rose 96 cents, or 1.2%, to $79.22 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. July WTI CL00, 1.38% CLN24, 1.28%, the most actively traded contract, rose 88 cents, or 1.1%, to $78.72 a barrel.

* July Brent crude BRN00, 1.05%, the global benchmark, climbed 73 cents, or 0.9%, to $83.52 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe after posting a loss of 0.2% for last week.

* June gasoline RBM24, 1.10% tacked on 1.1% to $2.5277 a gallon, while June heating oil HOM24, 1.15% added 0.9% to $2.4569 a gallon.

* Natural gas for June delivery NGM24, 1.95% traded at $2.29 per million British thermal units, up 1.8%.

Traders on Monday were dealing with some confusion over the fate of OPEC+ production cuts, which have helped to keep a lid on crude prices, commodity analysts at ING said in a note. Iraq’s oil minister on Sunday told the state news agency that the country is committed to production cuts by OPEC+, made up of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies, and is working with other members to stabilize the market, news reports said. The remarks, however, came a day after he indicated Iraq wouldn’t entertain further cuts. “Iraq is [now] the third country to hint that they are not necessarily willing to simply roll [the OPEC+] voluntary output quotas totaling 2.2 million barrels at the June 1 meeting,” Robert Yawger, director of energy futures at Mizuho Securities USA, wrote in daily commentary. The United Arab Emirates and Russia have also hinted that they are unhappy with cuts, he said.  Yawger said that he believes “lifting the voluntary cuts runs a strong risk of cratering crude oil prices.”  

OPEC+ ministers are due to meet June 1. A round of voluntary production cuts is set to expire at the end of next month.

Polling at 12% nationallyand on the ballot of the critical battleground of Michigan, the Democrat-turned-independent has built a unique coalition that extends beyond those drawn to his famous last name.

Kennedy’s tough talk on the southern border, willingness to stand up to the medical-industrial state and focus on fitness and personal health have earned him unlikely admirers on the right.

Recent polling data shows nearly half, 48%,of all Republicans view Kennedy favorably, compared to 43% of independents and 35% of Democrats.

But make no mistake: On energy — one of the core issues that has defined the Biden presidency from its outset —Kennedy is an extremist.

In the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks,RFK Jr. actually denounced the environmental impact of hog producers as a “greater threat to the United States and US democracy than Osama bin Ladenand his terrorist network.”

Comments that egregious would have tanked most politicians, but US politics in the pre-social-media age were very different than today.

Kennedy rose to prominence as an attorney for the National Resources Defense Council, one of the nation’s best-funded environmental activist groups — and one that’s faced criticism for its coziness with the Chinese Communist Party.

These facts matter. Biden has used the power of the presidency to wage war on the energy industry.

During his first days in office, with a simple stroke of his pen, he canceled the Keystone XL pipeline and halted oil and gas leasing on federal lands.

His signature legislative “accomplishment” during the first half of his first term was the sweeping climate-oriented Build Back Better plan that eventually morphed into the “slimmed down” Inflation Reduction Act — which included $369 billion of green giveaways while doing little to tame inflation.

His administration has targeted gas cars, gas stoves and even dishwashers in pursuit of the green agenda.

Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency recently issued a rule that will effectively force coal plans to shut down.

The results have not been pretty: The national average price of a gallon of gas this week costs $3.65, compared to $1.84 at this point in May 2020.

That’s a 98% spike, and we’re still weeks away from Memorial Day and the peak summer driving season that brings even higher prices.

It was larger than the Earth. It was so big you could actually see it on the Sun's surface without magnification. It contained powerful and tangled magnetic fields as well as numerous dark sunspots. Labelled AR 3664, it developed into one of the most energetic areas seen on the Sun in recent years, unleashing a series of explosions that led to a surge of energetic particles striking the Earth, which created beautiful auroras. And might continue. Although active regions on the Sun like AR 3664 can be quite dangerous, this region's Coronal Mass Ejections have not done, as yet, much damage to Earth-orbiting satellites or Earth-surface electrical grids. Pictured, the enormous active region was captured on the setting Sun a few days ago from Civitavecchia, Rome, Italy. The composite image includes a very short exposure taken of just the Sun's surface, but mimics what was actually visible. Finally, AR 3664 is now rotating away from the Earth, although the region may survive long enough to come around again.

The United Nations has seemingly revised the estimated number of women and children it believes have been killed in Gaza during Israel’s war on Hamas, blaming the “fog of war” for the mistake.

In a graphic featured within OCHA’s recent daily briefing on May 6th, it was claimed that approximately 9,500 women had lost their lives in the ongoing conflict. The organization also cited data sourced from the Hamas-administered Ministry of Health in Gaza asserting that since hostilities began last October, roughly 14,500 children had been killed.

Yet just two days later, the U.N. agency appeared to revise these figures significantly downward in its subsequent report. The updated data indicated that approximately 4,959 women and 7,797 children had lost their lives.

The conflict erupted following a brutal attack by Hamas militants in southern Israel from Gaza, resulting in the deaths of over 1,200 individuals, predominantly civilians, and the taking of approximately 240 individuals as hostages.

A reporter from the Jewish News Syndicate (JNS) asked the U.N. about the revision, with the spokesperson blaming the “fog of war” for the errors.

“The revisions are taken … you know, of course, in the fog of war, it’s difficult to come up with numbers,” Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres, said at a press conference last Friday.

“We get numbers from different sources on the ground, and then we try to cross check them. As we cross check them, we update the numbers, and we’ll continue to do that as that progresses.”

A company run by the daughter of the judge overseeing former President Donald Trump’s current New York case works for left-wing legal groups behind efforts to keep President Trump of the 2024 ballot and Chinese Communist Party-funded influence groups.

These revelatory business affiliation of Judge Juan Merchan’s daughter Loren Merchan, president and partner of Authentic Campaigns, follow previous reporting on the firm’s work for Democratic politicians including President Joe Biden and Rep. Adam Schiff.

Among the newly revealed clients of Judge Merchan’s daughter are the Brennan Center, which has filed lawsuits against the Trump administration and campaign over a dozen times, and the Asia Society.

ELECTION INTERFERENCE.

The website of Merchan’s Authentic Campaigns highlights the Brennan Center for Justice as one of its clients. A recipient of considerable cash from George Soros over the years, the Brennan Center played a critical role in the recent attempt to remove President Trump from the Colorado ballot ahead of the 2024 election.

The group filed an amicus brief advising the Supreme Court to reject President Trump’s efforts to overturn the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to remove him from the ballot due to claims he incited an insurrection on January 6th.

”The brief urges the Court to reject Trump’s attempts to revive the independent state legislature theory on appeal,” summarized the Brennan Center.

Authentic Campaigns appears to have worked for Brennan Center since at least 2023, with the group still listed as an active client. In addition to expanding the group’s online presence and following, Authentic Campaigns also helped "seamlessly transition these engaged readers into grassroots donors, thereby augmenting the organization’s funding and capacity to drive change.”

"Authentic embarked on a meticulously crafted journey to not only identify and acquire new subscribers but also to galvanize them into becoming active, contributing donors to the Brennan Center’s mission. We honed in on target audiences with a demonstrated affinity for progressive and pro-democracy causes as well as social justice nonprofit engagement, ensuring that our outreach was as resonant as it was expansive,” summarized the company of its robust efforts.

Authentic Campaign’s work for the Brennan Center appears to have been centered on elections, with sample ads and campaigns on the firm’s website focusing on themes such as how to "protect election officials” and hammering how "they couldn’t take our Capitol. Now they’re coming for our democracy.”

The left-wing non profit has also initiated at least 14 lawsuits against then-President Trump and Cabinet members for a variety of immigration and census-related topics. More recently, the Brennan Center also intervened in defense of Democrat election officials such as the Pennsylvania Secretary of State during the 2020 election following lawsuits from the Trump campaign.

THE CHINA CONNECTION.

The Asia Society is another client of Authentic Campaigns.

The group is a pro-China lobby group that sponsors several Chinese

Communist Party-funded Confucius Institutes across the United States. These controversial institutes are propaganda centers – notoriously rife with espionage activity – that operated extensively on college campuses until President Trump cracked down on their presence in American schools. What’s more, Confucius Institutes have a counterpart called "Confucius Classrooms,” which focus on spreading their pro-communism and pro-China message to students in elementary through high school.

The Asia Society, which frequently collaborates with other Chinese Communist Party-backed influence groups, counts members of the Chinese Communist Party and high-ranking officials at Chinese universities with track records of cyber-espionage and intellectual property theft such as East China Normal University, Renmin University, and Wuhan University on its board.

The Confucius Institute even honored two of Asia Society’s Confucius Schools during its 2015 Confucius Institute World Conference in Shanghai with the Hanban Confucius Classrooms of the Year award.

Scientists could make blazing-fast 6G using curving light rays

The future of cellular data transfer could lie in "curving" light beams midair to deliver 6G wireless networks with blazing-fast speeds — bypassing the need for line of sight between transmitter and receivers.

In a new study published March 30 in the journal Nature's Communications Engineering, researchers explained how they developed a transmitter that can dynamically adjust the waves needed to support future 6G signals.

The most advanced cellular communications standard is 5G. Expected to be thousands of times faster, 6G will begin rolling out in 2030, according to the trade body GSMA.

Unlike 5G, which mostly operates in bands under 6 gigahertz (GHz) in the electromagnetic spectrum, 6G is expected to operate in sub-terahertz (THz) between 100 GHz and 300 GHz, and THz bands — just below infrared.

The closer this radiation is to visible light, the more prone the signals are to be blocked by physical objects. A major challenge with high-frequency 5G and future 6G is that signals need a direct line of sight between a transmitter and receiver.

But in the experiments, the scientists showed that you can effectively "curve" high-frequency signals around obstacles such as buildings.

"This is the world's first curved data link, a critical milestone in realizing the 6G vision of high data rate and high reliability," said Edward Knightly, co-author of the study and professor of electrical and computer engineering at Rice University, in a statement.

The photons, or light particles, that make up the THz radiation in this region of the electromagnetic spectrum generally travel in straight lines unless space and time are warped by massive gravitational forces — the kind that black holes exert. But the researchers found that self-accelerating beams of light — first demonstrated in research from 2007 — form special configurations of electromagnetic waves that can bend or curve to one side as they move through space.

By designing transmitters with patterns that manipulate the strength, intensity and timing of the data-carrying signals, the researchers made waves that worked together to create a signal that remained intact even if its route to a receiver was partially blocked. They found that a light beam can be formed that adjusts to any objects in its way by shuffling data to an unblocked pattern. So while the photons still travel in a straight line, the THz signal effectively bends around an object.

Bending toward a 6G future

While bending light without the power of a black hole isn't new research, what's significant about this study is it could make 6G networks a practical reality.

5G millimeter wave (mmWave) currently offers the fastest network bandwidth by occupying the higher 5G radio frequencies between 24GHz and 100GHz of the electromagnetic spectrum to deliver theoretical maximum download speeds of 10 to 50 gigabits (billions of bits) per second. THz rays sit above mmWave in a frequency between 100 GHz and 10,000 GHz (10 THz), which is needed to deliver data transfer speeds of one terabit per second — nearly 5,000 times faster than average U.S. 5G speeds.

"We want more data per second," Daniel Mittleman, a professor at Brown's School of Engineering, said in a statement. "If you want to do that, you need more bandwidth, and that bandwidth simply doesn't exist using conventional frequency bands."

But due to the high frequencies they operate in, both 5G mmWave and future 6G signals need a direct line of sight between a transmitter and receiver. But by practically delivering a signal over a curved trajectory, future 6G networks wouldn't need buildings to be covered in receivers and transmitters.

However, a receiver needs to be within the near-field range of the transmitter for signal bending to work. When using high-frequency THz rays, this means some 33 feet (10 meters) apart, which is no good for city-wide 6G but could be practical for next-generation Wi-Fi networks.

"One of the key questions that everybody asks us is how much can you curve and how far away," Mittleman said. "We've done rough estimations of these things, but we haven't really quantified it yet, so we hope to map it out."

While curving THz signals holds a lot of promise for future 6G networks, the use of THz spectrum is still in its infancy. With this study, the scientists said we have gotten a step closer to realizing cellular wireless networks with unparalleled speeds.
