GOP Senator Exposes ‘Horrible Thing’ Mitch McConnell Did to Americans

A leading Republican senator is blowing the whistle on the party’s Senate leader, Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), over the chamber’s latest foreign aid funding bill, which would send tens of billions more in U.S. tax dollars to Ukraine.

In a Twitter Spaces session, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said that McConnell and more than a dozen other Republican senators voted to pass a $95 billion “foreign aid” package that would send $60.1 billion to Ukraine at a time when, according to national polling, a growing majority of Americans have said they oppose sending more tax dollars to the war-torn country, especially while domestic problems including a chaotic southwestern border continue to fester.

“When we entered this thing, McConnell said his top priority was funding for Ukraine. But public opinion and the very strong political rhetoric that we ought to secure our own border before we spend $60 billion to secure Ukraine’s was effective. And so McConnell finally switched and said, ‘OK, we’ve got to let Democrats know that we are serious. We are going to defeat closure on this bill, and we are going to demand that border security is going to be attached to funding for Ukraine,’” Johnson explained.

“Then secret negotiations occurred on an issue the public supports Republicans on, and we end up with this monstrosity of a bill. It is an immigration bill. It’s not a border security bill. But during that time frame, we repeatedly talked about making Ukraine funding contingent on border metrics,” he added.

“We had it all laid out. We had a proposal. We had a great deal of support in our conference, but what [Sen.] Mike [Lee] (R-Utah) pointed out is unbeknownst to us at the time, McConnell told [Sen. James] Lankford (R-Okla.) that that’s not even on the table,” the Wisconsin Republican continued.

“He, on his own … using his own authority without telling the conference even though he knew that the conference supported tying border security or Ukraine funding to actually securing the border, McConnell just took that off the table,” he said.

“And that moment of leverage we had where we could use Biden’s desire for Ukraine funding to actually force him to use his executive authority to secure the border has been lost, and that is why so many of us are speaking out against McConnell. It was such a breach of his leadership position and such a, just a horrible thing to do to Americans who want a secure border,” Johnson added.

In the wake of the failed ‘border security’ bill — which Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) had already declared “dead on arrival” in the House — a growing number of GOP senators are calling on ousting McConnell as the party’s Senate leader.

Sen. Ted Cruz, for instance, did not mince words late last week after the chamber failed to advance a “bipartisan” piece of legislation that was advertised as a border security bill but which actually sent billions more dollars to Ukraine, Israel, and other countries.

The Texas Republican made it clear he believes it is time for McConnell to step down from the party’s leadership and quite possibly even leave the chamber altogether.

“Mitch McConnell, in effect, gave the largest in-kind campaign contribution to the Democrats’ Senate campaign committee in history,” Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, told The Daily Caller.

“Every single Democrat candidate in the country running for Senate, running for House will use the identical talking points — they will all say: We wanted to secure the border. We tried to secure the border, but the Republicans wouldn’t let us,” Cruz said. “Now, that is a wild-eyed lie. It is completely false. This bill would have made the border crisis worse.”

“I think this is our opportunity to take him out, and we’re sort of working to figure out if that’s possible,” according to one Republican senator, granted anonymity by The Daily Caller.

“As long as I’ve been serving in the Senate, there’s never been an issue where the American public is so overwhelmingly in support of our position, which is to secure the border.

“So how can you take — as leader — how do you take an issue where the American people support us and lead us into a box, where now, when a bill is produced, it is worse than doing nothing,” Johnson told the outlet. “When that’s rejected, we get blamed. I mean, you got to work overtime to screw that up.”

Judge Rules Trump’s New York Hush Money Trial Will Begin March 25

Former President Donald Trump will face his first criminal trial next month over a 2016 hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Trump has denied the affair and has pleaded not guilty to the charges

Trump’s packed court schedule will become more difficult to manage with his upcoming first trial and campaign trail appearances. The start date of Trump’s federal 2020 election trial was originally set for March 4, but it has been rescheduled.

The former president filed an appeal this week, which the Supreme Court might consider and postpone the trial. The judge overseeing the case denied Trump’s request to have the charges dismissed to begin the hearing on Thursday.

Judge Juan Merchan announced that the trial’s jury selection process will begin on March 25, CNN reported.

A Manhattan grand jury indicted Trump in March of last year on 34 felony counts of first-degree business record falsification. His plea to the charges was not guilty. The prosecution claims that Trump paid Daniels $130,000 as part of a “catch and kill” plot.

Trump is the first president to be charged with a crime, living or dead, as a result of the New York indictment. One of the numerous ongoing legal cases that Trump is dealing with as he runs for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024 and a second term in office is the hush money case.

When the judge announced the decision to proceed with the trial, Trump’s lawyers immediately objected, stating that they had planned to discuss the timing of the trial during the hearing.

Todd Blanche, a prominent member of Trump’s legal team, called the decision a “serious injustice” and cited the former president’s numerous legal complications as evidence.

“We have been faced with compressed and expedited schedules in every one of those trials,” Blanche told the judge. “We — meaning myself, the firm and President Trump — have been put into an impossible position.”

Manhattan District Attorney Bragg is facing a pair of lawsuits related to his filing of charges against Trump, accusing him of illegalities involving a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election, facilitated by his then-personal attorney Michael Cohen.

Trump is charged with 34 counts that include allegations of falsifying business records to hide the payment.

Fox News noted in June: “The Heritage Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based conservative think tank, has sued Bragg under suspicions that he and his office coordinated or communicated with the Justice Department, the White House, and Rep. Daniel Goldman, D-N.Y., about the prosecution. In its lawsuit, Heritage claims that such actions eventually led to investigations by several U.S. House committees into Bragg’s conduct.”

“Regrettably, these questions have not been met with answers. These reports have raised concerns in many circles based in large part upon the longstanding history of President Trump’s political opponents coordinating their activities to systematically weaponize the criminal justice system against him and thereby pervert the course of Justice,” says a filing for the first lawsuit.

Heritage has filed a separate lawsuit claiming that Bragg and his team engaged the services of prominent law firms specializing in white-collar litigation, pro bono. In the lawsuit, Heritage is seeking a court declaration that the requested documents fall under the purview of the New York Freedom of Information Law and should be released.

The organization is also requesting that Bragg and his team provide the requested documents and be prohibited from seeking costs and fees related to the specific request mentioned in the case.

Mike Howell, director of Heritage’s Oversight Project, the group’s government watchdog division, said the organization believes Bragg was “coordinating, or otherwise communicating” with Trump’s political opponents and that “there’s reason to believe Bragg was a prolific communicator” via cellphone.

KYIV, Ukraine — When Tanya, a 45-year-old woman living in Los Angeles, paid $10,000 and sent two embryos to a surrogacy firm in Ukraine hoping to build a family six years ago, she says she never expected the uncertainty and heartbreak the process would bring.

Tanya desperately wanted a child but found out she would be unable to conceive herself. After discovering how expensive surrogacy in the U.S. can be, she and her husband began pursuing options abroad — and came across the Kyiv-based company BioTexCom. Tanya’s parents were originally from Odesa, so she felt there was something fitting about her future child being born in Ukraine.

Once the process began with BioTexCom in fall 2017, however, Tanya had an uneasy feeling. After sending her embryos, she says, she was told they would be implanted in a surrogate almost immediately — a timeline that didn’t fit with all the research Tanya had done into the surrogacy process. When, a few days later, the firm told her the embryo transfer had been unsuccessful and provided minimal information about why, she says, she suspected something was off. Her husband was in Kyiv for work a few weeks later and decided to stop by the clinic to see if he could get some answers.He introduced himself to a clinic staffer, who immediately thanked him for donating their embryos to another couple. He was floored: Was this what had happened when the firm told them the process was unsuccessful?“Obviously, that’s when, you know, crap hit the fan,” she said. At that point, she added, BioTexCom stopped answering her messages and they never received her embryos back.

The account of Tanya and her husband was one of multiple complaints that reporters for POLITICO and the German news outlet WELT uncovered in an investigation into BioTexCom, arguably the world’s most popular surrogacy agency. Complainants were granted anonymity to discuss a sensitive subject. One German couple said BioTexCom mixed up their surrogate twins with another couple’s pair, forcing them to exchange the babies at a secret rendezvous in Germany.

Another German woman said her uncertainty and stress after BioTexCom never returned all her embryos after she canceled plans for a surrogacy in Ukraine. WELT also spoke to former prosecutors, surrogates and advocates in Ukraine who raised allegations of BioTexCom’s lack of proper care for the medical needs and complications of women who bore the babies. They say cases were not pursued in the country’s sometimes chaotic legal system even though the company’s founder confirmed that he was placed under house arrest as part of a pretrial investigation.

Tanya, too, has been thwarted in her efforts to initiate an investigation into her embryos. Tanya and her husband remain anxious that their embryos may have been implanted and a child born and given to another couple. Although she has filed a complaint with the international crime agency Interpol, more than five years later she still doesn’t know what really happened. (Interpol did not reply to a request for comment from POLITICO.)

House GOP Probes Intel Agencies Using ‘Disinformation’ Charge to Obstruct Biden Investigation

Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan launched an oversight investigation into U.S. intelligence agencies for allegedly obstructing a 2020 Senate investigation concerning the Biden family.

Jordan wrote a letter to National Intelligence Director Avril Haines stating that the House Judiciary Committee and its subcommittee “are investigating allegations that the U.S. Intelligence Community obstructed a congressional inquiry in 2020 by falsely alleging that the work of two U.S. Senators was advancing Russian ‘disinformation.'”

Senators Ron Johnson (R., Wis.) and Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa) initiated a congressional investigation into claims of influence peddling involving President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden three years ago. On August 6, 2020, two FBI officials presented the Republican lawmakers with a “defensive” briefing as part of their investigation, characterizing those claims as misinformation from Russia.

Grassley and Johnson were nearing completion of their September 2020 report concerning the purported influence-peddling schemes of Hunter Biden in China and Ukraine at that time, as noted by National Review.

Jordan is requesting that Haines provide “all drafts of the script” that were used to brief the two senators, demanding information about that “so-called ‘defensive’ briefing,” as he put it.

Jordan wrote, “The Senators’ investigation into Hunter Biden’s financial connections to foreign governments and foreign nationals was hampered by the briefing, the existence of which was later leaked.”

Albert Tochilovsky, the founder of BioTexCom, in a written statement to WELT and POLITICO, said Tanya’s concerns about her embryos being implanted for another couple are “completely false”: “The quality of the material was absolutely poor — it makes no sense for us to use the embryos for another couple.”

In the case of the German twins, Tochilovsky blamed it on Kyiv’s public maternity hospital. “Two couples had their twins born at the same time, and, unfortunately, the staff mixed the children. It was the only case, and we carefully control all the processes,” he said.Similarly, Tochilovsky dismissed concerns about a German woman’s embryos being misplaced or used for another family.

“We always release the material of our patients upon their request, and we even assist with transportation,” he said. “We do not need donor eggs/embryos — we have a large bank of donor oocytes (more than 10,000) that were retrieved from young, healthy donors.”

But the concerns resonate because of the extent of the surrogacy business in Ukraine — which produces hundreds of babies per year — and the anxiety and desperation of the people involved. There’s also the not insignificant factor that the entire process is being carried out amid an epic military clash in which the fate of the country hangs in the balance.

Indeed, the Ukrainian economy may have suffered a desperate series of blows through Russia’s invasion, but the country’s surrogacy industry, fueled by a permissive legal environment, remains open for business.

A booming industry

Over the past decade, surrogacy, or the “rent-a-womb” industry, as critics sometimes call it, has become a booming global industry. In 2016, the Swiss NGO International Social Service estimated that 20,000 babies annually were born via surrogacy. Promoted by celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Elton John and Paris Hilton, this reproductive process was worth an estimated $14 billion in 2022 and may reach $129 billion by 2032, according to the research and consulting company Global Market Insights.

Although surrogacy is legal in most U.S. states, and an increasingly mainstream option, it is banned across much of Europe and in many other parts of the world, meaning those interested in pursuing it must look outside their home countries to find surrogates. Even in places such as California, where surrogacy is common, it is often prohibitively expensive — leading women like Tanya to seek more affordable options abroad.

But the patchwork of conflicting national regulations and the proliferation of women traveling across national borders to seek surrogates also creates the space in which companies like BioTexCom, Ukraine’s most successful surrogacy agency, operate.

Despite the war with Russia, Ukraine’s surrogacy industry continues to advertise for customers and serve its international clientele.

BioTexCom’s sophisticated online presence promotes hundreds of stories of happy families elated to meet their newborn. But scant details can be found about BioTexCom’s past complaints and brushes with Ukrainian law enforcement.

For example, in 2018 and 2019, Ukrainian prosecutors obtained a court order to put Tochilovsky under house arrest for what one former prosecutor, Yuriy Kovalchuk,deemed as possible child trafficking cases, because some of the children might not have had a DNA link to the parents, along with allegations of tax evasion and money laundering.

But the cases were redirected to other law enforcement agencies and lesser courts before eventually being dropped.Kovalchuk said he was sidelined by senior officials under the guise of institutional reforms to tackle rampant corruption in Ukraine’s law enforcement ranks. Asked to respond to these and other allegations, Tochilovsky said the criminal investigations were “hysteria” fueled by corrupt Ukrainian prosecutors and attempts to extort him and the company for an ownership stake in the firm or a $1 million payment.

“All the allegations made by him and his team were completely false,” he said of Kovalchuk in his statement.

Since Russia’s brutal invasion, surrogacy in Ukraine has received increased international attention. Indeed, Ukraine’s surrogacy trade, worth tens of millions of dollars, soldiers on. Amid bombing, water cuts and power shortages, BioTexCom, one of the world’s most popular agencies, simply adapted.

According to the company’s own social media posts, babies have been protected in bunkers and armed soldiers escorted newborns to and from hospital, while foreigners made frantic journeys to Kyiv to be united with their newborns.

During the war, hundreds of Ukrainian women have provided babies for childless couples, which was, even during peacetime, a logistical — and for some an ethically dubious — challenge. Yet BioTexCom’s social media is filled with their happy stories: Foreign couples, who risked everything by traveling to a war zone, become parents for the first time via BioTexCom.

So while Ukraine fought back against Russia, BioTexCom tried to incorporate the struggle into its marketing. It launched a PR campaign to “ Make babies, not war,” and said they “will do their best for your dream of becoming parents. Nothing can stop us,” as posted regularly on their Facebook, Telegram, Tik Tok and Instagram accounts.

BiotexCom does not shy away from its business-as-usual approach during wartime. In his written response, Tochilovsky said the company is actively recruiting women from newly liberated areas of Ukraine.

“We have a great shortage of surrogate mothers, the number of potential clients is three times more than the number of the surrogate mothers,” he said.

‘There is no absolute infertility’

Surrogacy is a controversial and deeply contentious issue around the world. Commercial surrogacy was banned in Thailand and Nepal in 2015, then in India in 2019 after a series of high-profile scandals of exploitation and charges of dubious ethics in the industry. But demand for surrogacy did not go away — it simply shifted to countries like Ukraine, where the process is less expensive and, compared with some countries, less heavily regulated.

The requirements to use a surrogate in Ukraine are simple: A heterosexual couple must to be married, show they are medically unable to have children and provide at least half of the child’s genetic link, via sperm or embryo. BioTexCom advertises on its website packages from as little as $40,000. On average, surrogacy with BioTexCom costs $40,000 to $50,000, with an “all inclusive VIP” package going for $71,000, according to the website. These prices are substantially less than what surrogacy costs in the United States, where surrogacy experts and firms estimate that the average price tag is upward of $100,000.

Those familiar with the pre-war surrogacy industry in Ukraine estimate that nearly half of the country’s approximately 2,000 to 2,500 surrogate pregnancies every year were carried out through BioTexCom. Since then, the company reported in February 2023 that 600 families used their services during the first 11 months after Russia’s invasion. If each family paid on average $50,000, that would have meant BioTexCom took in $30 million….

As a GENERAL PROPOSITION – when a Judge is inclined to rule against a particular participant, that Judge allows the participant to say pretty much anything and everything he/she wants. It's called "protecting the record."

What that does is cut-off the losing party from being able to claim "You didn't give me a chance to say everything I wanted to say, blah, blah, blah."

All it really does is eat up time, but the extra time spent in the hearing is a small fraction of what would be required if the judge was reversed and the matter had to be done over again.

I suspect that if Judge McAfee was of the opinion that Willis' conduct was simply unprofessional and unethical, but not disqualifying taking the worst case spin on everything presented by the defendants he would not be allowing his to grind on with Willis on the stand.

But to let her say everything she wants to say, he has to let the questioning continue.

Nathan Wade Testifies: Willis’ Ex-Friend Claims Relationship Began Prior To Ga. Indictment

Fulton County Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade took to the stand in a televised testimony where he was grilled on his inappropriate and undisclosed relationship with Fulton County DA Fani Willis.

On Thursday, Wade was the first of the pair to answer questions from Donald Trump’s lawyer Steven Sadow and Michael Roman’s lawyer, Ashleigh Merchant.

Roman is a former Trump campaign staff member who brought this case to light. In early January, he accused Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade of having a secretive relationship beyond their professional work.

The prosecution wasted no time and asked Wade a range of private details regarding his “personal relationship” with Willis.

During the stunning testimony, it was revealed that the intimate relationship between the duo began in 2022.

“Let’s be clear: 2022 was the start of any intimate sexual relationship with the district attorney,” Wade said.

However, that date contradicts the testimony from an ex-friend of Willis who stated earlier that day that the affair began back in 2019, three years earlier than he claimed. Her ex-friend, Robin Yeartie, told the court that she believed that there was “no doubt” they were in a romantic relationship prior to his hiring.

In Yeartie’s testimony, she stated that Willis had informed her about seeing Wade during a 2019 court session.

“Ms. Willis and Mr. Wade began their romantic relationship soon after,” she said under questioning.

“Did you observe them do things that are common among people having a romantic relationship,” another lawyer asked.

“Hugging, kissing, just affection,” said Yeartie.

Wade testified that the last time he was intimate with the district attorney was in the summer of 2023.

As being the special prosecutor in the county’s case against the 45th president, Wade and Willis “personally benefited” from the relationship as he was paid $654,000 by the county for his role in assisting her office to prosecute Trump.

Wade took many personal vacation trips with Willis while working for her. Some of their vacations included trips to Aruba, Tennessee, and Napa Valley in California. Wade would typically book the trips for the pair.

He claimed that Willis always paid for her part of the trip after it was booked. She would “only reimburse him in cash.”

“For safety reasons, she would limit her transactions,” Wade said. “I used my business card for everything,” he said of his transactions.

In addition to all of the trips they took together, the purported lovers would go on dinner dates and exotic excursions.

This specific hearing was being held to determine if Willis should be removed from her case against 45th President Donald J. Trump due to her personal relationship with Wade. Wade was appointed as the special prosecutor in the case.

Currently, Willis is still leading the case to prosecute Trump in Fulton County, Georgia.

Trump is facing 13 charges in Georgia. Willis charged the 45th president with violating the Georgia RICO Act, solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer, conspiring to impersonate a public officer, conspiring to commit forgery in the first degree, and conspiring to file false documents.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.
