Dem Candidate Gets Called Out by His Own Father for Lying About Military Service: ‘has only disdain for the military’

The father of Democratic candidate for the Washington State House, Clyde Shavers has claimed in a recently published letter that his son has lied to the public about his service in the United States Navy.

Mr. Brett Shavers, a Marine Corps veteran reportedly sent a three-page scathing letter to his son’s opponent, Republican incumbent Rep. Greg Gilday, making the assertion that his son has falsely claimed in campaign materials that he served as a nuclear submarine officer in the Navy for eight years.

“Clyde was never a submarine officer, not even for a day,” Brett Shavers wrote according to local outlet The Daily Herald.

In the letter, Brett Shavers tells that he and his wife, who are both residents of Kirkland, Washington felt moved to write the letter to “correct the record factually and personally as a matter of integrity.”

He continued, “Prior to Clyde’s announcement to run for office, he had asked me how to explain his failure of the submarine officer pipeline training. I stressed to Clyde that he must be truthful and simply state that he went through the many weeks of training. Yet, as seen in campaign materials, Clyde chose instead to claim that he was a submarine officer. I explicitly explained to him that this is akin to claiming to be a Navy SEAL who never completing the training yet being awarded the badge reflecting the position.”

Brett added that his son has a “disdain” for the military. “Clyde has only disdain for the military. I have seen Clyde’s use of veteran status used heavily as a seal of endorsement of honor and integrity, even as he or his campaign continually use the phrase ‘son of a Marine’ for his credibility,” he wrote.

“There are no words that I have that could come close to overemphasize Clyde’s negative view of the military, his disdain of enlisted service members, and his revulsion to wear the uniform,” he wrote.

Clyde Shavers has denied his father’s claims according to Fox News, saying the letter is “inaccurate” and “all about politics.”

He told the outlet, “His political letter is inaccurate and, personally, very painful to me as his son,” Shavers said of his father’s claims. “To be clear, this letter is all about politics.”

He continued, “This is the kind of politics that’s tearing apart families and communities, and my campaign is about healing and moving forward.”

Known as 'a prince of the West Coast nightclub circuit' the couple were apparently introduced by a member of the paparazzi who asked her to pose with Oliver who was divorced and 13 years her senior.

At the time she was dating Rob Lowe and was enjoying the rich fruits of success in music, having just released her first and second singles Ouragan and Flash in 1986.

As soon as she laid eyes on her future partner she reportedly uttered the words: 'I saw him and it just happened between us'.

After Mario Oliver had separated from his ex-partner he continued to climb the social ladder in California.

However he was twice divorced and was arrested in 1982 on suspicion of raping a 19-year-old girl, before agreeing to sexual battery charges in a plea bargain.

Following his death, his business associate Jim Colachis told the Daily Beast: Mario did love the limelight. He was a wonderful person, wonderful showman, wonderful partner, wonderful father.
