A total lunar eclipse will be visible throughout Arizona during the early morning of Nov. 8, hours before voters head out to polls to cast their ballot in the general midterm elections.

This will be the second total lunar eclipse in 2022, but another one will not occur until 2025, according to NASA.

Here's what to know.

What is a total lunar eclipse?

A total lunar eclipse is one of three different types of lunar eclipses (penumbral, partial and total). Total lunar eclipses occur when the Earth is positioned well enough between the sun and the moon causing the Earth's shadow to engulf its only natural satellite.

Total lunar eclipses will always dawn a reddish hue dubbing them "Blood Moons," outside of scientific circles.

Arizonans were last treated to the spectacle in May of this year.

Why will the moon have a reddish hue?

NASA calls it Rayleigh Scattering. Colors such as blues and violets have much shorter wavelengths causing them to scatter easily as opposed to reds and oranges. The longer wavelengths of reds and oranges allow them to penetrate the Earth's atmosphere giving the Moon its reddish appearance.

"The Earth's atmosphere scatters blue light and so the light that, if you will, falls on the Moon is those reddish wavelengths," Mount Lemmon SkyCenter Director Alan Strauss told The Arizona Republic.

Additionally, the more dust or clouds present in the Earth's atmosphere at the time of the eclipse, the redder the moon will appear.

"The depth of that, how dark it is, depends on literally the content of the atmosphere," Strauss said. "If there's a massive volcanic eruption, that's going to make for a darker eclipse."

When will it be visible?

The main event will begin around 3:16 a.m. on the morning of Nov. 8, when totality begins, NASA said.

Eclipses take place in phases though, so it requires patience for those who want to see it in its entirety. Avid night sky enjoyers will need to set their alarms for the late-night show beginning roughly at 1 a.m.

1:02 a.m.: Penumbral Eclipse begins

2:09 a.m.: Partial Eclipse begins

3:16 a.m. Total Eclipse begins

3:59 a.m.: Peak Eclipse

4:41 a.m.: Total Eclipse ends

5:49 a.m.: Partial Eclipse ends

6:56 a.m.: Penumbral Eclipse ends

Where will it be most visible?

Arizona is situated right in the path of totality meaning those in the Copper State can witness the eclipse from beginning to end.

"You don't need to get out of the city at all," Strauss said. "The full moon is bright; you can see it from anywhere. As those partial phases begin to happen it is still very bright, you don't have to go anywhere. That's the beauty of the eclipse."

The forecast however may not be so beautiful for eclipse viewing come Nov. 8.

"It does look like we're gonna have some cloudiness around," said Austin Jamison, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Phoenix. "During the preceding day, it'll be pretty clear but we're anticipating a slow increase of cloudiness as the night goes on."

If you're unable to view the eclipse or want a different perspective, the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff will be live streaming the eclipse on its YouTube channel beginning at 2 a.m.

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 261,000 in October, and the unemployment rate rose to 3.7 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Notable job gains occurred in health care, professional and technical services, and manufacturing.

The change in total nonfarm payroll employment for August was revised down by 23,000, from +315,000 to +292,000, and the change for September was revised up by 52,000, from +263,000 to +315,000. The current employment recession was by far the worst recession since WWII in percentage terms. The unemployment rate increased in October to 3.7% from 3.5% in September. This was above consensus expectations; and August and September payrolls were revised up by 29,000 combined.

If there was a path to mending the situation after Kyrie Irving’s retweet of a link to an anti-Semitic movie last week, Irving himself put a torch to it on Thursday afternoon.

Speaking to reporters for the second time since his promotion of “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America,” Irving refused to say he was sorry, refused to say he didn’t hold anti-Semitic beliefs, refused to say the Holocaust happened and cast himself as the victim in the entire saga.

Irving was cut off by Nets PR after just six minutes of answering questions, and the team soon realized its best option was to cut its losses, suspending him indefinitely and for a minimum of five games.

“I didn’t mean to cause any harm,” Irving said. “I’m not the one that made the documentary.”

In the eyes of the Nets — and the Anti-Defamation League, which returned a $500,000 donation from Irving — that was not nearly enough.

A Twitter employee who is eight-months pregnant said access to her work laptop was cut off on Thursday night, hours after Elon Musk said layoffs would be announced on Friday via email.

Rachel Bonn tweeted an image of herself with her nine-month-old baby in front of rows of pumpkins.

Her tweet came the same day that Twitter staff were told in a memo that emails would be sent on Friday morning to inform them if they have been laid off.

Staff who are being let go will get an email to their personal accounts at 9:00 a.m. PST, while those being kept on will receive notice in their work email, according to the memo.

"Last Thursday in the SF office, really the last day Twitter was Twitter. 8 months pregnant and have a 9 month old. Just got cut off from laptop access #LoveWhereYouWorked," Bonn tweeted at about 10:00 p.m. San Francisco time on Thursday.

Bonn has worked at Twitter as a content marketing manager since July 2019 in San Francisco, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Bloomberg reported on Friday that a class-action lawsuit claiming that the proposed staff layoffs violated California and federal law was filed in San Francisco federal court on Thursday.

The lawsuit is reportedly asking the court to make Twitter adhere to the WARN Act and stop it from asking staff to waive their right to take part in the litigation.

Twitter and Bonn did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

Credit Suisse Buyback Sees Investors Hold On to Half of Debt

A $3 billion debt buyback offer by Credit Suisse Group AG has so far been taken up by holders of about half that amount as many opt to keep their discounted bonds issued by the embattled Swiss lender. The bank bought parts of seven separate bonds denominated in euros and sterling, amounting to the equivalent of about €286 million ($279.6 million), it said in the release of the tender offer’s indicative results on Friday. In a separate statement, it said just over $1.2 billion of dollar notes had so far been accepted for purchase with six days still remaining for investors to sell back their holdings.

The concurrent buybacks are part of a 3 billion Swiss franc ($2.98 billion) operation launched by the lender in October, which analysts saw as a show of confidence as it scooped up its own debt at a discount. The 166-year-old bank has been vulnerable to rumors of takeover bids and concerns about its stability. It plans to raise 4 billion Swiss francs through a rights offering and selling shares as part of an overhaul that includes downsizing its loss-making investment bank arm. Earlier this week, S&P Global Ratings cut its score of Credit Suisse Group to BBB-, the lowest investment-grade step, citing “material execution risks.”

David Ike banned from The Netherlands and all EU countries for 'being a risk to public order'

David Icke: Conspiracy theorist banned from Netherlands

Conspiracy theorist David Icke has been barred from entering the Netherlands, with officials saying he posed a risk to public order.

Mr Icke rose to prominence promoting fringe theories in the 1990s and found a new audience with the Covid pandemic.

He falsely said the virus was spread by 5G mobile phone networks and that a Jewish group was involved.

Mr Icke was due to address protesters critical of the government's Covid-19 response in Amsterdam on Sunday.

News of Mr Icke's two-year travel ban was first reported on his own website, where he said the Dutch authorities sent him a letter saying his presence in the country could cause tensions between different groups and disrupt public order.

Mr Icke says the ban extends to the EU's visa-free Schengen area, meaning he is also banned from 25 other countries.

The Dutch Ministry of Justice confirmed the ban to local media - saying the letter had been leaked - but made no further comment.

Last month, Amsterdam's mayor, police and prosecutor's office asked demonstration organisers to uninvite Mr Icke for his "anti-Semitic and hurtful statements".

The event is still due to go ahead with counter-demonstrations also planned.

In 2020, Mr Icke, a former footballer and sports broadcaster, was banned from Facebook and Twitter because his accounts violated rules regarding Covid-19 misinformation.

Americans are fed up with Democrat policies and the Biden administration and Democrats know it.

Like in 2020, the only way Democrats can win elections is by cheating and stealing.

Democrats have failed to compete with Republicans on “messaging” and as a result, a “red wave” is coming on next Tuesday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom warns.

Asked whether the election feels like a “red wave,” Newsom replied, “Yeah. Of course it does.”

“I’m not paid to say that,” the California lawmaker told CBS’ Major Garrett in an interview Tuesday. “You know… I get it. Look, I mean, I could be the cheerleader. I’m also pragmatic. You feel it.”

Newsom didn’t attribute Democrat policies on the economy, crime, Covid or border security to the GOP’s advantage ahead of the election.

It’s the Democrat Party’s inability to galvanize support for its narratives that will result in a red wave, he argued.

“It goes to my fundamental grievance with my damn party,” Newsome lamented. “We are getting crushed on narrative”

“We are going to have to do better in terms of getting on the offense and stop being on the damn defense,” he conceded.

The California Governor maintains he has no plans for a White House bid.

“It’s not my ambition. It’s not the direction that I’m leading into,” Newsom said. “I have no interest.”

Newsom said the prospects of GOP Rep. Kevin McCarthy ascending to Speaker of the House fill him with “fear.”
