Fed approves another "jumbo" interest-rate hike, 75bp adds dovish language on way forward
The Federal Reserve on Wednesday approved the fourth straight jumbo increase in its benchmark interest rate, extending a rapid pace of hikes that brings the rate to the highest level in 15 years. For the first time, the central bank also signaled it would watch closely whether this rapid pace might eventually damage the economy with a “lag.” By a unanimous vote, the Fed hiked its rate by 0.75 percentage points to a range of 3.75% to 4%.
In new language, the Fed it expects to continue with further rate hikes “until they are sufficiently restrictive to return inflation to 2% over time.” The Fed also said it will “take into account the cumulative tightening of monetary policy, the lags with which monetary policy affects economic activity and inflation, and economic and financial developments.” After the Fed raised rates at the fastest pace in 40 years, some economists have warned that the central bank could overdo rate hikes and damage the economy. And the Fed noting that it was watching “financial developments” is a nod to risks the strong dollar is putting on the global economy. In September, the Fed penciled in a half-point rate hike in December but that could change. Economists say the eventual size of the move will depend on the economic data. There will be two unemployment reports and two consumer price inflation prints before the next Fed policy meeting on Dec. 13-14.

Tesla closes retail showroom in China over strategy shift
Tesla has closed what was once considered its flagship store in China as the company looks to re-evaluate location convenience for customers, reports said Wednesday. The electric car company has closed its doors in the upscale location of Beijing's Parkview Green shopping center, anonymous sources told Reuters. The showroom, reportedly shut down last week, is now covered with paper and advertisements for the next retailer that will set up shop in the two-story space. China is Tesla’s second-largest market behind the U.S. where it hit a monthly record in September by delivering a reported 83,135 China-made electric vehicles as it looks to improve sales and its customer service strategy. Tesla did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment but, according to Reuters, the car manufacturer has been considering a revamp of how it conducts business with its customers. The electric car company is apparently looking to increase its store count in more affordable suburban areas where it can also provide repairs. Tesla operates over 200 outlets in China, but despite a move toward closing showrooms, there are currently more than 300 job openings it is reportedly looking to fill. Tesla’s retail strategy is different from other car manufacturers as it not only owns and runs all of is stores – opposed to relying on dealerships – but it also sells cars online.
There has been a massive push amid concerns over climate change and pollution to drive electric, but many drivers across the world are still unable to afford electric vehicles. Tesla has reduced electric car prices in China on its Model 3 and Model Y cars by as much as 9% – costing Chinese consumers roughly $36,700 for a Model 3 after Chinese subsidies.
The Model Y in China costs roughly $39,700.

Don't Tell Powell, But US Rents Just Tumbled The Most On Record As Economy Craters
There was a remarkable moment during today's Jay Powell post-FOMC presser, which revealed once again just how out of touch the Fed is when it comes to correctly evaluating the broader economy. Asked about the ongoing devastation in the housing market in general, and rent inflation in particular, Powell's response was the following:

Here, Powell is doing two things; i) he is referring to the latest shelter/OER (owner equivalent rent) inflation data as reported by the CPI and which is indeed soaringand ii) is dead wrong by making the exact same mistake that so many economists made last year when they did not realize just how high rent inflation will soar as it tracks real-time rental metrics. (so they din't 'see it' start to increase until 5 months AFTER it did-and it's STILL a survey) What about the actual state of rents? For the answer we go to the latest monthly report from Apartment List which we have used consistently since early 2021, and where we find something stunning: rents just tumbled by the most on record!
As the AL blog writes in its latest monthly note, "the national index fell by 0.7 percent over the course of October, marking the second straight month-over-month decline,and the largest single month dip in the history of our index-(again not be be 'seen by the FED until MUCH later), going back to 2017." These past two months have marked a rapid cooldown in the market, but the timing of that cooldown is consistent with a seasonal trend that was typical in pre-pandemic years. Going forward it is likely that rents will continue falling in the coming months as we enter the winter slow season for the rental market. Despite the monthly decline, rent growth over the course of this year continues to outpace the pre-pandemic trend, even as it has slowed significantly from last year’s peaks. So far in 2022 rents are up by a total of 5.9 percent, compared to a record 18 percent at this point in 2021. Year-over-year growth has decelerated rapidly since the start of the year, but it’s still likely that 2022 will end up being the second fastest year of rent growth since the start of our estimates.
The cooldown in rent growth is being mirrored by continued easing on the supply side of the market. Our vacancy index now stands at 5.5 percent, after a full year of gradual increases from a low of 4.1 percent last fall. In the past two months, this easing of the vacancy rate has picked up steam again, after plateauing a bit over the summer. That said, today’s vacancy rate remains below the pre-pandemic norm.
The recent slowdown has been geographically widespread. Rents decreased this month in 89 of the nation’s 100 largest cities in October. (even Johns Hopkins can do DHAT maff)'' Boise, ID – one of the first rental markets to explode in the early phases of the pandemic – saw the sharpest rent decline among the nation’s 100 largest cities this month (-3.5 percent). At the metro level, we are continuing to see an ongoing cooldown in many of the recently booming Sun Belt markets. Las Vegas, Phoenix, Jacksonville, and Riverside have all seen rent growth of more than 30 percent since March 2020, but none of these metros has seen rents increase by more than 2 percent over the past twelve months.

Judicial Watch: Court Rejects Democratic Party Intervention in Lawsuit Challenging Illinois Vote-Counting for Two Weeks after Election Day
(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that a federal court rejected a motion by Democratic Party of Illinois to intervene as a defendant in Judicial Watch’s lawsuit challenging an Illinois election law permitting mail-in ballots to be received as long as two weeks after Election Day.
The ruling and opinion come in the federal lawsuit Judicial Watch filed on behalf of Congressman Mike Bost and two other registered Illinois voters to prevent state election officials from extending Election Day for 14 days beyond the date established by federal law (Rep.Michael J. Bost, Laura Pollastrini, and Susan Sweeney v. The Illinois State Board of Elections and Bernadette Matthews (No. 1:22-cv-02754)).
In the court’s ruling and opinion on the Democratic Party of Illinois motion to intervene, U.S. District Judge John F. Kness held that its participation would “delay this time-sensitive case:”
[Democratic Party of Illinois] cannot meet its burden to show that its interests will not be adequately represented by the parties to the case. As a result, [Democratic Party of Illinois] is not entitled to intervene as of right. Separately, because allowing [Democratic Party of Illinois] to intervene would threaten to delay this time-sensitive case further, the Court, in its discretion, denies [Democratic Party of Illinois] motion seeking permission to intervene as a party under Rule 24(b). Accordingly, the Court denies DPI’s motion in its entirety.
(The Democratic Party of Illinois is represented by the Elias Law Group, whose founding partner is Marc Elias, the controversial lawyer for Hillary Clinton’s campaign.)
Federal law defines Election Day as “the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of every even-numbered year.” The initial complaint states:
Despite Congress’ clear statement regarding a single national Election Day, Illinois has expanded Election Day by extending by 14 days the date for receipt and counting of vote-by-mail ballots
Judicial Watch points out that the current Illinois election law allows vote-by-mail ballots received up to 14 days “after the polls close on Election Day” to be counted as if they were cast and received on or before Election Day. Illinois law also provides that “[e]ven vote-by-mail ballots without postmarks shall be counted if received up to 14 calendar days after Election Day if the ballots are dated on or before Election Day.”

Judicial Watch’s lawsuit notes:
The Board … advised that the number of ballots received after Election Day through November 17, 2020, could materially affect the unofficial election results.

Judicial Watch argues that holding voting open for 14 days past Election Day violates the constitutional rights of voters and candidates:
By counting untimely and illegal ballots received after Election Day and diluting Plaintiffs’ timely cast and received ballots, Defendants, acting under color of Illinois law, have deprived and are depriving Plaintiffs of rights protected under the First Amendment and 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in violation of 42 U.S.C. § 1983.
“The Democratic Party failed to gum up this important lawsuit for election integrity,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “We are supposed to have an Election Day, not Election Weeks – or months. Illinois’ 14-day extension of Election Day beyond the date set by Congress is illegal, violates the civil rights of voters, and encourages fraud.”
The Delaware Supreme Court recently struck down the state’s vote-by-mail and same-day voter registration statutes for violating the Delaware Constitution. In making its ruling, the court effectively concurs with the amicus curiae brief Judicial Watch submitted in the case, which argues the Delaware statute impermissibly expands those practices far beyond the limits set in the Delaware Constitution.
In a separate Judicial Watch election lawsuit against Illinois, a federal court ruled in June 2021 that the lawsuit could proceed against Illinois officials for denying public access to Illinois’ voter registration database.
In February 2022, Judicial Watch settled its voter rolls clean-up lawsuit against North Carolina and two of its counties after the North Carolina removed over 430,000 ineligible names from the voter rolls.
In March 2022, a Maryland court ruled in favor of Judicial Watch’s challenge to Maryland’s Democratic legislature “extreme” congressional redistricting gerrymander.

LOWERING COST OF INSULIN FOR SENIORS: President Donald J. Trump and his Administration are lowering out-of-pocket insulin costs for Medicare's seniors.
Under President Trump's leadership, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is announcing that many Medicare Part D plans and Medicare Advantage plans have applied to offer lower out-of-pocket insulin costs to seniors for the 2021 plan year.
Across the Nation, participating enhanced Part D plans will provide many seniors with Medicare access to a broad set of insulins at a maximum $35 copay for a month's supply of each type of insulin.
In 2018, Medicare Part D also started covering newer insulin delivery devices, including both mechanical and electronic insulin pumps that are not covered under Part B.
Lowering out-of-pocket insulin costs will provide the many Medicare beneficiaries who rely on one or more common forms of insulin with plan options that will deliver critical relief.
IMPROVING CARE AND COST FOR SENIORS: President Trump is working to improve the accessibility, quality, and affordability of healthcare and prescription drugs for our Nation's seniors.
President Trump is committed to ensuring that older Americans receive the best quality healthcare at an affordable price.
Just last year, the President signed an Executive Order to empower seniors with more choice and access in healthcare and improve the fiscal sustainability of Medicare.
This order will eliminate unnecessary barriers and combat fraud, waste, and abuse in Medicare, improving the program and maximizing freedom for patients and providers.

On Thursday, Biden’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced the new rule would be put on hold, along with several other Trump-era orders pending a 60-day review. Biden Chief of Staff Ron Klain directed federal agencies on Wednesday to pause orders that had been signed and published by the previous administration but not yet effective.
“This freeze is part of the Biden administration’s large-scale effort announced this week that will scrutinize the Trump administration’s health policies,” reported Bloomberg Law. “If the previous administration’s policies raise ‘fact, law, or policy’ concerns, the Biden HHS will delay them and consult with the Office of Management and Budget about other actions.”
In December, Trump ordered community health centers deliver savings and discounts to low-income patients to purchase insulin and epinephrine in a bid to make high drug costs more affordable. The rule’s implementation will now be delayed until March 22 pending its approval by the new administration.
Biden’s first days in office have been defined by a series of sweeping executive orders showcasing the Biden-Harris White House’s aggressive pursuit of a partisan leftist agenda. Among the 17 executive orders signed in his first 48 hours, Biden has so far effectively erased women’s sports, blocked Trump’s border wall, suspended federal laws f0r illegal immigrants, and pulled back rules barring taxpayer-funded abortion.

Ballot vote counting procedure
The ballot envelope is run through a sorter into bins by precinct. The bins are loaded on a rack for each precinct. The rack is moved to precinct ballot prep table and the envelope is opened. Ballots are prepped for scanner. Operator verifies the ballots match precinct. The test ballot is run to verify OCR ballot scanner software is loaded properly.
Issues:
Sorter can mix precincts and it needs to be monitored.
The OCR software is not calibrated for precinct and registration is off.
Not all operators are knowledgeable about the machines or software. If the sorter hasn't been prepared or the OCR ballot scanner software is not prepared the ballots are rejected and move to the canvassing board to determine the "intent" of the voter this includes over and under votes.
Keep an eye on error rates in Washington State. Particularly the senator race between Smiley and Murray.
