One-Third Of Ukraine's Power Stations Destroyed As WHO Warns Of "Brutal" Winter Ahead

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Tuesday that up to one-third of all power stations have been attacked by Russian missile and drone strikes over the past week, causing "massive blackouts across the country."

He called these ongoing strikes against energy infrastructure "terrorist attacks" and said this means there's "No space left for negotiations with Putin’s regime," according a tweet.

For more than a week Russia has stepped up an aerial bombardment campaign against dozens of cities and towns which has included widespread use of suicide drones. Ukraine and its Western backers suspect these are Iranian-made drones, cause the EU to threaten new sanctions against Tehran on Tuesday.

Zelensky said in a separate social media post that Russian forces act "insidiously – kills civilians, hits housing, infrastructure," according to a Telegram statement. "Due to the Russian missile terror in some cities and regions of Ukraine, energy workers have to limit the supply of electricity so that the entire system works stably."

The Hill on Tuesday wrote of some the latest strikes, "The city of Zhytomyr, which is west of the capital Kyiv, lost power after a double missile strike targeted an energy facility on Tuesday." The report observed further that "In Kyiv, missile strikes damaged two power facilities and on Monday the city was bombarded by waves of exploding suicide drones."

Ukraine's second largest city of Kharkiv, which sits near the Russian border, was also hit in a major attack on its energy infrastructure. This has threatened the power grid in a city with a pre-war population of nearly 1.5 million. Reuters has called it a "deliberate campaign to destroy electricity and water facilities before winter."

The two Russian regions of Belgorod and Kursk have meanwhile said their populations have been terrorized by shelling attacks from the Ukrainian side of the border. "Train traffic in the Belgorod region was temporarily brought to a halt after shelling struck a railway station and damaged the railroad tracks, the region’s Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote on his official Telegram channel," The Moscow Times reports.

Texas Officials Seize Over 336 Million ‘Lethal Doses’ of Fentanyl Since March, Enough to Kill Everyone in US

Law enforcement officers in Texas have seized over 342 million lethal doses of fentanyl since March 2021 as part of Gov. Greg Abbott’s “Operation Lone Star,” according to his office.

Abbott, a Republican, said in a press release on Monday that the millions of lethal doses are enough to kill every man, woman, and child in the United States.

The giant seizure of drugs comes as Texas is battling with a chronic border crisis, which Abbott has largely blamed on the Biden administration’s lax immigration policies.

Fentanyl is a potent synthetic opioid that is 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine. As little as two milligrams is potentially enough to be lethal.

An increasing number of Mexican cartels have been importing fentanyl from China before pressing it into pills or mixing it into other counterfeit pills made to look like Xanax, Adderall, or oxycodone. The drugs are then sold to unaware buyers in the United States.

“Fentanyl remains the single deadliest drug threat our state and nation has ever encountered, killing four Texans every day,” said Abbott in a statement on Monday. “Fentanyl is a clandestine killer, with Mexican drug cartels strategically manufacturing and distributing the drug disguised as painkillers, stimulants, anti-anxiety drugs, and even candy.”

The CIA’s hypocrisy on ‘sources and methods

The Agency’s carelessness in protecting its own agents reveals the cynicism of the US government’s treatment of whistleblowers.

Reuters recently published new reporting on the story of one of the worst U.S. intelligence failures in decades. From approximately 2010 to 2013, dozens of CIA informants in China, Iran, and elsewhere were rounded up and executed, jailed, or flipped to double agents. In Iran and China, almost the entirety of the CIA’s network in two of its top-priority countries are reported to have been exposed.

Some in the U.S. government seemed to try to pin much of the blame on a betrayal by CIA officer Jerry Lee, who was later prosecuted and pleaded guilty to spying on behalf of the Chinese government. But Lee’s alleged espionage could not account for all the sources blown.

In a series of articles published by the New York Times, Foreign Policy, and Yahoo! News, another explanation emerged: an astonishing laxity of source protection at the CIA itself. The reporting outlined several lapses in basic tradecraft (which included sending new recruits to meet at locations known to be under close foreign surveillance), but most catastrophic was the (not so) secret communications system the CIA used with these sources. Even if there had not been a mole, it seems hard to believe that the slapdash system could have long evaded the sophisticated counter-intelligence capabilities of the Chinese and Iranian governments.

Essentially, the CIA had set up a system to embed a messaging function hidden in the search box of hundreds of cheaply produced fake websites. The word “hidden” should be used loosely here — the new Reuters reporting found more than three hundred of the sites and showed that a cursory look at their publicly available HTML source code revealed labels such as “message,” “compose,” and “password.” And because the agency purchased the domain names in bulk, the websites were assigned sequential IP addresses — making it almost trivially easy to identify the whole network once a few were discovered.

In other words, simply entering the correct operators into a Google search might have led to dozens of informants rounded up and executed. This level of sloppiness is deeply shocking and inexcusable for a spy service with the resources and expertise available to the CIA. But there are additional layers of hypocrisy and bitter irony that have been less discussed.

This episode coincided with the Department of Justice ramping up its war on whistleblowers. The government used “sources and methods” as a cudgel in these unprecedented Espionage Act prosecutions: they claimed to assign the gravest weight to the protection of sources — so much so that no concern of public interest, no matter how great, could ever be weighed against the secrecy. But those sources were treated as utterly disposable: the agency couldn’t even be bothered to obscure the HTML on its communications system.

In a pattern common to the intelligence community’s most catastrophic self-owns, no one seems to have yet been held accountable. Well, except one person. As you may have guessed, there was a whistleblower. In 2008, a CIA contractor named John Reidy started sounding the alarm through internal channels that these grave flaws in the system were a ticking time bomb. Reidy was fired in retaliation, and his complaint to the Inspector General went uninvestigated until well after dozens of informants had already been jailed or killed. As Reidy tried to fight the retaliation, the government even prohibited him from telling his own attorney anything about the nature of his disclosures.

At the same time when the CIA’s carelessness was burning its own assets, it became fashionable for the critics of whistleblowers who went public to condemn them for not sticking to “internal channels.” Those channels didn’t do much for John Reidy, or for the scores of intelligence sources he tried to save.

This is the tale of the epic conspiracy and effort the political Left and their Trump-hating friends on the Right put into hiding Hunter’s laptop.

Hiding Hunter’s Laptop

The American public was subjected to a campaign right out of the Soviet playbook designed to obfuscate the Biden family corruption.

Near the end of the 2020 presidential campaign there was an October Surprise. A shocking and provocative story that could potentially alter the outcome. That was, of course, Hunter Biden’s laptop.

This report shows the full extent of a successful censorship and disinformation campaign by the Left that directly influenced the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.

In the final months of the 2020 race an amazing revelation of corruption and actual crimes by Hunter and Joe Biden came to light. The New York Post ran an exposé of emails from a laptop abandoned by Hunter Biden at a repair shop. They showed evidence the Bidens were involved in taking money from foreign entities and providing access to the U.S. government.

At a minimum, these are likely felony violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) and perhaps also the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).

Joe Biden was the Democratic candidate and the entire country was about to decide whether he was suitable to serve as president. This story was highly relevant for citizens trying to make an informed voting decision. Voters were denied the opportunity to see and evaluate this information. Worse yet, they were subjected to a calculated disinformation campaign designed to discredit it.

This project has identified the conspirators, their strategy, their actions, and the chilling effect they had on our representative democracy. Sadly, this is not an isolated incident. It is a perfect example of the tilted playing field for ideas the Left has created. Our goal is to shine so bright a light on their actions they will not be able to do this again.

Uncle Joe was supposed to be the antidote for Trumpism, the smiling storyteller who wouldn’t cause any trouble. But that carefully crafted fiction would crumble if his involvement in selling out his country to enrich his own family was exposed.

That meant the story had to be covered up, and the Left jumped into action to do so in the fashion Dave Burge noted on Twitter.

Well, in these troubling times we got a bit of good news today. The Arizona State Supreme Court unanimously upheld the City of Phoenix’s ordinance charging Uber & Lyft fees for their ability to access Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. While the opinion has not been published as of yet, we will anxiously await the Court’s wisdom on this topic.

What we can hope is that at least some of the wisdom our colleague Doug Cole provided in his recent opinion piece in the Arizona Republic was followed. Mr. Cole had several important points including clarifying that the issue in question was an access fee – not a tax on a transaction or a privilege to operate. He also pointed out that, “(t)he city, like any person or company that owns property, has a long-established right to charge others who want to use its property.”

For those of you who missed that piece, here is a link for your edification.

Religious Zionism leader Bezalel Smotrich unveiled a program of radical, far-reaching legal reforms on Tuesday which, if enacted, would drastically reduce judicial authority and could lead to the termination of Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu’s criminal trial.

Smotrich said that acceptance of his proposals would be a precondition for his far-right party joining a future coalition following the November 1 elections.

The proposed changes to the legal system would also hobble the ability of the High Court of Justice to strike down Knesset legislation if it contravenes one of Israel’s Basic Laws, and give the government control over the appointment of all judges, including those for the High Court.

Smotrich, whose party is polling at around 13-14 seats, which will likely make it the country’s third-largest party, claimed the reforms would strengthen Israel’s Jewish and democratic character.

Critics denounced the proposals, with Prime Minister Yair Lapid alleging they emanated from Netanyahu who, he said, “has decided to destroy the legal system and the rule of law in Israel.”

Said Lapid: “If this gang gets into power, they’ll make every effort to destroy Israeli democracy, to cancel all the authority of the courts, to destroy the separation of powers in Israel. They don’t even bother to hide this anymore. It’s a deliberate campaign to cancel Netanyahu’s trial, and if they cancel Netanyahu’s trial by using political power that would mean that Israeli democracy is no longer Israeli democracy as we know it. We’re battling against this.”

Justice Minister Gideon Sa’ar described the program as “a paradise for government corruption,” and said the reforms marked “the politicization of the legal system” and constituted a ruse to cancel Netanyahu’s trial.

Religious Zionism is part of the so-called Netanyahu bloc, an alliance of right-wing and Orthodox parties seeking to defeat the outgoing coalition parties on November 1.

One of the central demands laid out by Smotrich is to abolish the offense of “fraud and breach of trust,” which the Religious Zionism leader argued enables legal officials to interfere in the political system. Netanyahu is charged with this offense in all three of the cases for which he is currently on trial, along with a bribery charge in one of the cases.

Speaking at a press conference in Kfar Maccabiah on Tuesday afternoon, Smotrich acknowledged that Israeli law as it stands would mean that Netanyahu’s fraud and breach of trust charges would be dropped if that crime were abolished, since changes to the criminal code are immediately applicable, even to ongoing proceedings.

He claimed, however, that a way would be found to ensure Netanyahu’s trial would nevertheless continue, so that the legislation could not be portrayed as a “personal law” designed for Netanyahu’s benefit.

The Likud party said in response to Smotrich’s proposals that they would “not be applied retroactively” and would not affect the legal proceedings against Netanyahu.

Biden's family got 'interest-free,' 'forgivable' loan from China, new evidence reveals

2017 business email and new information released by Sen. Chuck Grassley expose Chinese effort to enrich first family.

President Joe Biden has made waves this fall with his plan to forgive hundreds of billions of dollars of student loans, shifting the burden to taxpayers. Five years earlier, his family cashed in on a zero-interest, forgivable loan of its own from an energy company in communist China, according to evidence in the possession of the FBI.

The loan arrangement, confirmed in documents obtained by Just the News and also new information released by Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), shows the Chinese energy firm CEFC Beijing International Energy Company Limited understood the transaction would benefit Joe Biden's family (referred to as "BD family" in the emails), but it also was creating heartburn with its own compliance/risk management officers.

The Chinese company's leaders "fully support the framework of establishing the JV (joint venture), based on their trust on BD family," stated a July 26, 2017 email from a CEFC official to Tony Bobulinski, a Hunter Biden business partner at the time. The email was written in part to explain why there had been a delay in getting the money to a firm called SinoHawk associated with the future president's son and brother, Hunter Biden and James Biden, respectively.

"The delay of wire is caused by the details on the JV building, as follows: 1) the positioning and strategy of the JV are not made fully clear to CEFC 2) 5 million is lent to BD family in the 10 million charter capital. How will this 5 million be used (or the 10 million as a whole)? This 5 million loan to BD family is interest-free," the email stated.

"But if the 5 M is used up, should CEFC keep lending more to the family?" the email inquired. "If CEFC lends more, they need to know the interest rate for the subsequent loan(s)."

The CEFC official went on to explain the nebulous transaction was raising worries with the company's compliance officers. "Because of the reasons above, the risk management department of CEFC is showing concerns on the operation of SinoHawk, hence the delay of the wire," CEFC's Raymond Zhao wrote.

Could the stem of our Milky Way bloom into an auroral flower? No, not really, even though it may appear that way in today’s featured all-sky image. On the left, the central plane of our home galaxy extends from the horizon past the middle of the sky. On the right, an auroral oval also extends from the sky's center – but is dominated by bright green-glowing oxygen. The two are not physically connected, because the aurora is relatively nearby, with the higher red parts occurring in Earth's atmosphere only about 1000 kilometers high. In contrast, an average distance to the stars and nebulas we see in the Milky Way more like 1000 light-years away - 10 trillion times further. Alleged Mossad agents taken to court in Malaysia after botched operation

The abduction attempt of the Gazan man with alleged ties to Hamas occurred in Kuala Lumpur on September 28.

Israel has remained officially silent regarding reports that a team of Mossad agents were captured during a botched operation to kidnap a Hamas operative in Malaysia.

The botched Mossad operation

The abduction-style capture of the Gazan man, whose ties to Hamas were allegedly subject to a Mossad investigation, occurred in Kuala Lumpur on September 28, according to local press.

Malaysian mercenaries allegedly operating on behalf of the Mossad drove up to two Palestinian nationals, who were reportedly computer programming experts. They dragged one into the vehicle – warning the other to stay away – and drove him to a secretive location, where he was tied up and forced to answer questions via a video call with Israeli agents, the Malaysian New Straits Times reported.

Malaysian security forces freed the Palestinian man and arrested the alleged Mossad operatives 24 hours later, as the second alleged victim lodged a report at a Kuala Lumpur police station about 40 minutes after the abduction.

On Tuesday, Malaysian Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the government would take action if the reports were true.

"We should look into matters [allegations] like this, then we will announce [further action]," he said according to the Straits Times report.

In 2020, a Gazan imam was sentenced to a year in jail for smuggling funds from Malaysian charities to Hamas, and in 2018 a Hamas-affiliated Palestinian engineer from the Gaza Strip was shot dead in Kuala Lumpur in what many suspected was a Mossad assassination.

US companies or companies that use US technology require a US government license to sell to those that appear on this "Entity List". Along with Huawei, another 68 of its subsidiaries from around the world were put on the list at that time. 46 additional subsidiaries were added to the list in August 2019.

But one name was surprisingly absent from both lists: Huawei's R&D center in Israel, Toga Networks. Staff at Toga's offices in Hod Hasharon and Haifa were also surprised the company was not included, and to this day it is not entirely clear how the Israeli subsidiary managed to avoid this. One explanation offered by employees is that Toga's name, which does not have the word "Huawei" in it, confused the US authorities, but apparently this was not the case. In some cases, according to former employees, the suppliers, which did not want to risk entanglement with the US government, requested statements from Toga managers that the equipment would be used only by Israeli workers at the branch in Israel. Sources close to the R&D center claim there were no such special purchases, and that equipment was purchased only according to project needs.

After being put on the blacklist, Toga was prevented from using popular software like programming tool MATLAB. In its place, Toga employees use open-source alternatives, non-American software, or tools developed by Huawei. In the wake of the sanctions, some employees also left the center, fearing that working for Huawei could harm their future careers, and especially future employment with US companies.

Nonetheless, two years after the listing, Toga’s R&D centers in Israel are bigger than ever, employing about 500 people in 12-14 research groups that are responsible for projects in various areas. As present, while other development centers are scaling back on recruitment, Toga has 55 open positions. And although another Chinese giant, Alibaba, closed its R&D center in Israel last month, it appears that its Israeli development centers are of special importance to Huawei, precisely, perhaps, because of the American sanctions.

By adding the shots to the childhood schedule, Pfizer and Moderna will be able to bring an FDA-approved shot to the market without opening itself up to lawsuits.

A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) committee will convene this week and likely vote Thursday to deliver permanent legal indemnity to Pfizer and Moderna, through the process of adding the drug companies’ mRNA injections to the child and adolescent immunization schedules.

By adding the shots to the childhood schedule, the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) will transfer liability for vaccine injuries to the federal government’s National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP), allowing for Pfizer and Moderna to finally bring an FDA-approved shot to the market without opening itself up to lawsuits. Moreover, it will act as another windfall for companies that have already brought in hundreds of billions of dollars in revenues, by requiring these vaccinations for children who attend public schools.

In March 2020, the federal government invoked the PREP Act, which gave Pfizer and Moderna a tort liability shield due to the declared “public health emergency,” which the government is reportedly going to revoke in early 2023.

The companies’ emergency use authorization shots have since been protected by the federal government through this 2005 congressional action.

Russian general in charge of Ukraine operation speaks out.

Sergey Surovikin described the situation as “tense” and has not ruled out that he might have to make difficult decisions. Army General Sergey Surovikin on Tuesday spoke to media for the first time since assuming overall command of the ongoing Russian military operation in Ukraine.

The Vatican said it’s joining Bank of America Corp.’s Brian Moynihan, Salesforce.com Inc.’s Marc Benioff and about 25 other leaders in an effort to create “a more equitable and sustainable economic system.”The Council for Inclusive Capitalism with the Vatican is comprised of executives, who collectively run companies employing 200 million workers in 163 countries. The group will meet annually with Pope Francis and Cardinal Peter Turkson, who oversees the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, according to a statement posted Tuesday.“An economic system that is fair, trustworthy, and capable of addressing the most profound challenges facing humanity and our planet is urgently needed,” the pope said in the statement. The newly created council will take on the challenge “by seeking ways to make capitalism become a more inclusive instrument for integral human wellbeing,” he said.

Despite global economic growth over the past few decades, business leaders have been slow to address the widespread disparities in wealth, race and gender. Under pressure from shareholders, customers and employees, they’ve started to confront those inequities.

For example, BlackRock Inc., the world’s largest asset manager, has said sustainability is a top investment priority, while Citigroup Inc. has vowed to spend $1 billion to help close the racial income gap. And last year, the Business Roundtable, which represents some of the largest U.S. corporations, said companies should consider all their stakeholders, not just generate profits for themselves and investors.

Members of the Vatican’s council include BP Plc Chief Executive Officer Bernard Looney, William Lauder of Estee Lauder Cos., Visa Inc. CEO Alfred Kelly, Fiona Ma, the treasurer for the state of California, and Mark Carney, the former governor of the Bank of England. Chiefs from companies, including Mastercard Inc. and Johnson & Johnson, and organizations such as the Rockefeller and Ford foundations also will sit on the council. Marcie Frost, CEO of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System, likens the council to the work done by Climate Action 100+, an initiative that seeks to put pressure on the world’s largest polluters. She said the council will hold companies accountable for their public commitments on everything from racial diversity to reducing carbon emissions.“Being aspirational doesn’t mean much over time,” Frost said in a telephone interview.

“We want to make sure companies are executing specific commitments,” she said, adding that data is vital in holding businesses to account and them achieving their goals.
