Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf vetoes bill to bar biological males from female school sports, thanks President Biden 'for prioritizing the health and safety of women and birthing people'

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, a Democrat, has vetoed a bill to block biological males from participating in female athletics.

Wolf rejected House Bill 972, which would have required that the sports teams of public education institutions be designated for the male sex, the female sex, or for both sexes — the measure would have prohibited allowing males to play on teams designated for females. In addition to applying to public education institutions, the requirements would also have applied to any institutions that have teams that compete against public education institutions.

"I have been crystal clear during my time in office that hate has no place in Pennsylvania, especially discrimination against already marginalized youth representing less than half of 1 percent of Pennsylvania’s population," Wolf said, according to a press release. "The fact that this bill passed through Pennsylvania’s Republican-led General Assembly solely to bully and oppress vulnerable children is atrocious. These members should be ashamed of themselves for proposing and voting on policies that are discriminatory, unnecessary, and incredibly harmful."

The issue of whether to allow biological males to who identify as women to compete in sports designated for females remains an area of raging debate around the country.

But while many Americans reject radical leftist gender ideology, Wolf is appears to be completely on board with the reality-defying movement.

In addition to torpedoing the common-sense legislation to protect girls' and women's school sports on Friday, Wolf also thanked President Joe Biden "for prioritizing the health and safety of women and birthing people."

Activist Group Paying Tipsters For Locations Of Conservative SCOTUS Justices To Harass Them In Public

This week a public protest of Justice Brett Kavanaugh at a Morton’s Steakhouse in DC made news, the harassment by protestors sent Kavanaugh through the rear exit, and it appears this behavior will continue.

ShutDownDC announced on Friday, following the Kavanaugh incident, that organizers would pay anyone who could tip protesters off to the locations of the conservative Supreme Court justices. According to the call for tips, the price increases if they were still on site 30 minutes later.

“DC Service Industry Workers… If you see Kavanaugh, Alito, Thomas, Gorsuch, Coney Barrett or Roberts DM us with the details! We’ll Venmo you $50 for a confirmed sighting and $200 if they’re still there 30 mins after your message,” @ShutDown_DC’s tweet read.

The group highlighted Kavanaugh’s disrupted dinner, sharing reports that noted, “Justice Brett Kavanaugh had to exit through the rear of Morton’s on Wednesday night after DC protestors showed up out front.”

The group shared Daniel Lippman’s report from Politico in their call for more harassment and protest of the Justices.

During a press conference on Friday, when White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about it, she said it was a “right.”

When asked whether Biden and his administration had any issues with protesters continuing to harass the conservative justices outside their homes or in public, she said, “People should be allowed to be able to do that. If it’s outside of a restaurant, if it’s peaceful, for sure.”

Judge orders Texas to halt abuse probes into 2 families with transgender kids

A Texas judge is prohibiting the state’s Department of Family and Protective Services from pursuing child abuse investigations into two families with transgender children.

Travis County District Court Judge Jan Soifer granted a temporary injunction on Friday, halting investigations into two families who allow or help their trans children receive gender-affirming care, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Soifer’s ruling applies only to the plaintiffs, as the judge didn’t rule on whether an injunction could be implemented to freeze all child abuse investigations launched on families who allow their children to receive gender-affirming care.

The judge is overseeing legal proceedings in a lawsuit filed by the LGBTQ advocacy group PFLAG, which seeks a temporary restraining order and permanent injunction against the state investigations ordered by Gov. Greg Abbott.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is expected to appeal Soifer’s decision.

“We are gratified that the Court reiterated that the DFPS rule is unlawful and changed the status quo for Texas transgender youth and their families,” said a statement released by attorneys for families who are suing the governor and other state officials.

“The Court recognized yet again that being subjected to an unlawful and unwarranted investigation causes irreparable harm for these families.”

Texas judges have issued similar rulings to halt probes on a case-by-case basis.

German president says Kiev refusal to host him "historic insult"

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a telephone conversation in May that Kiev's refusal to host him in April was a "historic insult", German newspaper Spiegel reported on Saturday, citing sources.

According to high-ranking sources in Berlin, Steinmeier told Zelensky that the refusal "became a historical insult unique to the head of state," adding that he would like to receive an explanation before talking about a "joint future" between Germany and Ukraine, Spiegel indicated.

The newspaper pointed out that after some conciliatory words from Zelensky, the German president said that the topic was closed.

It is noteworthy that in April, German news outlet Bild reported that Zelensky refused to host Steinmeier in Kiev due to his "close connections" to Russia in recent years.

Later, Steinmeier confirmed that he was advised by Polish President Andrzej Duda to take a joint trip to Ukraine with the leaders of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, yet Kiev deemed it "undesirable".

Ex-JPMorgan metals traders face trial on racketeering charges

Three former JPMorgan Chase employees faced a federal trial in Chicago on Friday on accusations they helped turn their trading desk into a criminal enterprise that faked precious metals futures orders to manipulate prices.

The bank’s JPM, -0.31% former global precious metals desk head Michael Nowak, precious metals trader Gregg Smith and salesperson Jeffrey Ruffo are charged with racketeering and conspiracy in the Justice Department’s most aggressive case to date targeting the manipulative trading tactic known as spoofing.

The tactic involves placing and then quickly canceling buy or sell orders to falsely create the impression of high demand or supply. The three men are accused of using the tactic to manipulate futures on metals such as gold, silver, platinum and palladium between 2008 and 2016.

Attorneys for the defendants did not reply to a request for comment on Thursday.

Spoofing was outlawed in 2010 when Congress passed the Dodd-Frank Act after the financial crisis. Since then, prosecutors have argued that earlier instances constituted fraud.

The racketeering statute, a federal law enacted in 1970 to take down the mafia, is rarely used to prosecute corporate crime. It allows prosecutors to charge a group of individuals, including those indirectly involved in alleged wrongdoing, on the basis they participated in a “criminal enterprise.”

Better Markets, a Washington nonprofit that advocates for stronger financial regulation, called the case a “potential gamechanger” because the racketeering statute would allow prosecutors to seek harsh sentences if the defendants are convicted.

In addition to racketeering and conspiracy, Nowak faces 13 other charges including fraud, spoofing and attempted market manipulation, and Smith faces 11 additional charges.

Christopher Jordan, a trader who left JPMorgan in 2009, has also been charged and will be tried separately.

The trial before a jury is expected to take around five weeks. Prosecutors are expected to call three former traders as cooperating witnesses, all of whom have separately pleaded guilty to related charges. Alleged victims of the scheme may also take the stand, according to court papers.

Ten Times the White House Refused to Answer Questions About Hunter Biden

President Joe Biden and his staff continue refusing to answer any questions about Hunter Biden’s corrupt foreign business dealings and information found in his abandoned laptop.

Staff who work for Biden know it is a sensitive subject, and it has been since he was the Vice President in former President Barack Obama’s administration.

“Everyone who works for him has been screamed at,” a former Biden adviser told the New Yorker in a Hunter Biden profile which also reported that others were wary of hurting his feelings.

“It’s like you’ve hurt him terribly. That was always my fear, that I would be really touching a very fragile part of him,” a business associate of Biden’s told the New Yorker regarding difficult conversations about the president’s family.

Biden’s staff refuse to answer questions about it.

Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield, and now current White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre all decline to answer questions about Hunter Biden, refer questions to his lawyers, and repeatedly stand by the president’s statement that his son never made money from China and and that he never spoke with Hunter about his son’s business deals.

Meghan Markle Promotes Pro-Abortion Necklace Sales Benefiting Planned Parenthood

Prince Harry’s wife Meghan Markle is reported to have approved the design of a necklace glorifying abortion and sales of the jewelry that will benefit the nation’s leading abortion mill, Planned Parenthood.

Markle’s move is part of a trend of celebrities reacting to the U.S. Supreme Court reversing Roe v. Wade by supporting causes to ensure unborn children continue to be aborted.

The necklace, featuring the Venus female symbol — which looks like an inverted cross — and a clenched fist, cost about $150.

PageSix magazine praised the Duchess of Sussex and the necklace, encouraged women to “show off your inner goddess” and “support women’s health care.”

The magazine reported:

It’s a cause close to the Duchess of Sussex’s heart, as she made clear during a recent interview with Gloria Steinem and Jessica Yellin for Vogue.

“We have to band together and not wallow,” Markle said, continuing, “What happens with our bodies is so deeply personal, which can also lead to silence and stigma, even though so many of us deal with personal health crises.”

“I know what miscarrying feels like, which I’ve talked about publicly,” she added, referencing her 2020 pregnancy loss. “The more that we normalize conversation about the things that affect our lives and bodies, the more people are going to understand how necessary it is to have protections in place.”

The magazine article said the necklace was made by three-time cancer survivor Jill Johnson and her son and the company they started in 2018. Aside from Planned Parenthood, the company donates 20 percent of proceeds to other groups that align with their values, including NAACP and CancerCare.

Last December he filed a federal lawsuit against the social media platform claiming his first amendment rights had been violated.

In the lawsuit filed in District Court for Northern California, Berenson sought to be reinstated to Twitter and requested unspecified monetary damages over his ban which which began last August.

'The parties have come to a mutually acceptable resolution. I have been reinstated. Twitter has acknowledged that my tweets should have not led to my suspension at that time,' Berenson wrote on his Substack page earlier this week.

'Twitter banned me after I got five strikes under its Covid-19 misinformation policy. Nicaragua Authorizes Entry of Russian Troops on Its Territory

The Daniel Ortega-Rosario Murillo regime has authorized Russian personnel, ships, and aircraft to enter Nicaragua from July 1 to December 31, 2022. The Russian troops will participate in humanitarian aid, military exercises, and operations against illicit activities on the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, the June 7 decree in the official Gazette indicated.

“The region has reason to feel threatened. Nicaragua bought offensive as opposed to defensive armament from the Russians. The 80 tanks that it acquired are perfectly suited for armed entry into any of the capitals of Central America,” former opposition lawmaker, lawyer, and political analyst Eliseo Núñez told Diálogo. “The Russians in Nicaragua, with conventional and technological military capabilities, are a danger to the region. We already see what is happening in Costa Rica with hackers blocking the internet […], who coincidentally are from Russia.”

The decree includes the entry of 80 Russian military personnel, on a rotating basis, to participate in “experience exchanges and conduct training in humanitarian aid operations” with the Nicaraguan Army’s Special Operations Command. Moreover, 50 additional troops will take part in security training, and another 50 Russian service members will exchange experiences “in tasks to confront and combat narcotrafficking and transnational organized crime,” the decree states.

Security and defense experts stressed that Russia has no experience in combating organized crime and narcotrafficking operating in Latin America, despite managing an intelligence architecture through the Glonass Satellite Monitoring System station and the Police Training Center, both in Managua. “And if it has it, it doesn’t know how to manage it because they’re not here like U.S. agencies are,” Roberto Cajina, Nicaraguan security and defense expert, and former advisor to the Ministry of Defense, told Diálogo. “[…] They don’t have real information about how the cartels work and what the routes are.”

According to some security experts, the authorization for the entry of Russian troops in Nicaragua is not related to humanitarian purposes, as the decree indicates, but to espionage and intelligence gathering.

“I believe that Russian troops will be used for intelligence purposes, to gather intelligence in the region,” John Feeley, former U.S. ambassador to Panama, told Nicaraguan TV show Esta Semana. “If Russian soldiers come to Nicaragua to carry out humanitarian activities, I invite the Nicaraguan people and any observers to look at what Russian soldiers are doing in Ukraine.”

“Nicaragua invited Russian forces to conduct exercises, even if they are humanitarian, at a time when that country is invading a neighbor and committing human rights violations in Ukraine. We find it provocative on the part of the Nicaraguan regime and dangerous for our hemisphere,” U.S. State Department Under Secretary for Hemispheric Affairs Brian Nichols told German broadcaster DW. “Obviously, we have to use the levers and tools in our power to express our disagreement with their actions.”

Libya's Fathi Bashagha, appointed as prime minister in a challenge to a unity government in Tripoli, plans to take office in the capital "in the coming days," he told AFP.

The transitional government had a mandate to lead the country to elections last December, but they never took place due to divisions over the rules and the presence of controversial candidates.

Bashagha, 59, argues that today, Dbeibah's government is "illegitimate".

"Its mandate is over, and it failed to make elections happen," he said.

For elections to take place, he added, "the only condition is that Libya only has one government. Two governments is not acceptable."

Bashagha, a former fighter pilot trainer, was Interior Minister between 2018 and 2021. He said that he did not believe there would be a return to war, but warned that "there might be chaos because of demonstrations."

His comments came days after protestors stormed Libya's parliament building in the eastern city of Tobruk, demonstrating against the political elite - including both Dbeibah and Bashagha - and deteriorating living conditions.

Parents sue TikTok after 7 kids die from profitable Blackout Challenge videos

Parents say TikTok failed to act after the first reported death.

After the first child died from self-strangulation while attempting a recommended "Blackout Challenge," there were many steps that TikTok could have taken to shield other kids from the same fate immediately. Instead, a new lawsuit filed in California says TikTok chose to continue profiting from promoting what's now being described as its deadliest challenge, directly causing the deaths of six more children in 2021.

The lawsuit was filed by the parents of two of those children—girls ages 8 and 9. They claim their kids became addicted to TikTok, were fed a constant stream of seemingly harmless challenge videos persuading them to participate, and then died after attempting the Blackout Challenge. (The Blackout Challenge encourages TikTok users to post videos where they choke themselves until they pass out.)

Rather than blame creators of harmful videos or come after TikTok for publishing videos, the lawsuit instead seeks damages from TikTok for its product design, which directs kids to videos.

In a statement, the parents' legal team at the Social Media Victims Law Center (SMVLC) summarized the lengthy complaint: "The suit alleges that TikTok's defective design of its social media product results in an addictive product that is not safe for users and fails to warn minors and their parents that TikTok is addictive and pushes harmful content onto their 'For You' page that could endanger their wellbeing."

TikTok did not immediately respond to Ars' request for comment, but a TikTok spokesperson told The New York Times that "the company would not comment on continuing litigation." The spokesperson also linked to a prior company statement to People magazine about a 10-year-old girl who also died after attempting the Blackout Challenge. At that time, TikTok said that the "disturbing challenge" predated their platform and had never become "a TikTok trend." Expressing "deepest sympathies" to the family affected in that case, TikTok vowed to "remain vigilant in our commitment to user safety" and "immediately remove related content if found."

The lawsuit tells a different story, pointing out that "the 'Blackout Challenge' currently cannot be found on TikTok's social media product," which proves that the videos could have been removed after TikTok learned of the first death. Instead, the company chose not to take that or any earlier action to limit child exposure to the challenge, even though "the cost of incorporating age and identity verification into TikTok's product would be negligible."
