Bill Clinton says blaming US for Ukraine war is ‘biggest load of bull’

Former president Bill Clinton called the notion of blaming the US for the war in Ukraine “the biggest load of bull.”

Clinton talked about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s deadly two-month-long siege of Ukraine during the annual Casey Shearer Memorial Lecture event at Brown University on Tuesday.

“It is not true that we did anything to isolate, humiliate or ignore Putin,” Clinton said. “That’s the biggest load of bull you’ll ever hear.”

“I do not believe that there was anything we could have done to prevent this. Ukraine needs to prevail.”

Russia’s invasion of its neighbor on Feb. 24 upended the post-Cold War security order. Putin, long bothered by NATO’s expansion to eastern Europe, says the operation seeks the “demilitarization” of Ukraine and ensure Russia’s own security. One of Putin’s demands has been that Ukraine drop its bid to join the western NATO alliance.

Clinton detailed how his administration started the process of admitting the Baltic states – Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia – into NATO in the late 1990s.

“The idea that we were trying to jam Russia or isolate them … that’s just not true,” he said.

The former president said he met with Russia’s leaders 23 times throughout his eight-year presidency, including both former Russian President Boris Yeltsin and Putin.

“I made the argument to Yelstin, which was confirmed later by Putin, that there was nothing preventing them from joining NATO if they thought their biggest security threats were going to come from non-state actors.”

Clinton recalled his visit to Russia just a year before Yeltsin died, telling the then-president of his concerns about Putin’s disbelief in democracy.

“Putin did a pretty good job in his first term, he was exactly what Yeltsin wanted. He protected Yeltsin’s family, he was much stronger and aggressive, and healthier,” Clinton said.

“[Putin] never gave much indication that he was going to basically put kleptocracy on steroids or get rid of democracy.”

US State, Local Governments Helped Chinese Firms With $1.7 Billion in Subsidies: Watchdog

U.S. state and local governments have provided about $1.7 billion in subsidies to Chinese companies since 2010, a trend that must be reversed, said Robert Atkinson, president of Washington-based think tank Information Technology and Innovation Foundation.

“The official U.S. policy is to try to slow down China because they’re playing unfairly, if you will. So here we’re trying to slow down China, but at the same time, state and local governments are providing subsidies to speed up China,” Atkinson said in a recent interview with NTD.

China is known for engaging in a number of unfair trade practices, such as dumping cheap products in foreign markets, providing excessive government subsidies to Chinese companies helping them to gain market share, and stealing intellectual property (IP) and technologies. The Commission on the Theft of American Intellectual Property estimated in 2017 that the U.S. economy suffers an annual loss of between $225 billion to $600 billion from China’s IP theft each year.

The subsidy amount was tabulated by Washington-based watchdog Good Jobs First, a nonprofit that promotes corporate and government accountability. It found that China-based companies received over $1.8 billion in subsidies from U.S. government bodies from 1991 to 2020. The majority of the aid, about $1.7 billion, started flowing out of the United States in 2010.

The subsidies came in the form of tax credits, tax rebates, grants, loans, and property tax abatement. While most of the aid was handed out by state and local governments, some was distributed by federal agencies.

“Pretty much every state government and many local governments want to attract businesses to their borders,” Atkinson said. “They want to grow their economy, and by and large, they’re indifferent to whether those are American companies or British companies or Chinese companies.

“And so, they ended up actually subsidizing Chinese companies to come to the United States.”

According to the watchdog, two such companies are Chinese state-owned entities that have been identified by the Pentagon as having ties to the Chinese military—the Aviation Industry Corp. of China (AVIC) and China National Chemical Corp. (ChemChina). AVIC is also on the U.S. investment blacklist.

AVIC received a total of over $168 million in subsidies between 2009 and 2013, mostly in the form of tax credits and grants from the states of North Carolina and Michigan, according to the watchdog.

More recently, in 2020, the Iowa state government steered $717,355 in tax credits to Swiss-based agrichemical giant Syngenta, which is owned by ChemChina, according to the watchdog. The state government in North Carolina also gave Syngenta $155,594 in tax credit and rebates in 2019.

China’s Lenovo, a maker of personal computers that has received more than $135 million in subsidies as of 2019, has long been under the scrutiny of the U.S. government. In July 2019, the Pentagon’s Inspector General published a report (pdf) warning that Lenovo computers present an elevated risk for “cyberespionage” and “unauthorized system or network access.”

Atkinson said Congress could step in to prevent local U.S. governments from helping Chinese firms.

“Congress could pass a law that says, if you would like to continue to receive federal funds such as for highways, you can’t give money to a Chinese firm. It would stop tomorrow.”

Biden’s DHS Confirms Plans to Siphon Healthcare Services Away from Veterans to Illegal Aliens at Border

President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has seemingly confirmed plans to siphon healthcare services away from American veterans treated at Veterans Affairs (VA) to illegal aliens arriving at the United States-Mexico border.

During a hearing before the House Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas confirmed to Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) that the Biden administration is in talks with VA officials to potentially transfer doctors and nurses to the southern border to treat illegal aliens arriving every day in record-breaking numbers.

“Is the department planning to reallocate resources, doctors and nurses, from our VA system intended to care for our veterans to illegal immigrants at our southern border?” Hinson asked.

Mayorkas responded, stating that “the resources that the medical personnel from the Veterans Administration would allocate to this effort is under the judgment of the secretary of Veterans Affairs, who prioritizes the interests of veterans above all others for very noble and correct.”

When Hinson asked if Mayorkas had any conversations about the plan, he responded, “I have not personally, but of course, our teams, our personnel have. and I’d be very pleased to follow up with you.”

The remarks come as Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) had sought clarification on reports that the Biden administration was looking to siphon doctors and nurses away from the VA toward illegal aliens at the border.

“In the words of one [Customs and Border Protection] official, ‘We’re going to take medical services away from people that really deserve that, who went to combat … to give free medical attention to illegal migrants,'” Hawley wrote in a letter to Mayorkas.

Already, Americans are forced to subsidize medical care for illegal aliens to the tune of $18.5 billion annually. Last year alone, Americans footed the bill for more than $316 million in medical care for border crossers and illegal aliens who were detained in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody.

Today is my birthday. I turn 70. I’ve learned a few things so far that might be helpful to others. For the past few years, I’ve jotted down bits of unsolicited advice each year and much to my surprise I have more to add this year. So here is my birthday gift to you all: 103 bits of wisdom I wish I had known when I was young.

• About 99% of the time, the right time is right now.

• No one is as impressed with your possessions as you are.

• Dont ever work for someone you dont want to become.

• Cultivate 12 people who love you, because they are worth more than 12 million people who like you.

• Dont keep making the same mistakes; try to make new mistakes.

• If you stop to listen to a musician or street performer for more than a minute, you owe them a dollar.

• Anything you say before the word “but” does not count.

• When you forgive others, they may not notice, but you will heal. Forgiveness is not something we do for others; it is a gift to ourselves.

• Courtesy costs nothing. Lower the toilet seat after use. Let the people in the elevator exit before you enter. Return shopping carts to their designated areas. When you borrow something, return it better shape (filled up, cleaned) than when you got it.

• Whenever there is an argument between two sides, find the third side.

• Efficiency is highly overrated; Goofing off is highly underrated. Regularly scheduled sabbaths, sabbaticals, vacations, breaks, aimless walks and time off are essential for top performance of any kind. The best work ethic requires a good rest ethic.

• When you lead, your real job is to create more leaders, not more followers.

• Criticize in private, praise in public.

• Life lessons will be presented to you in the order they are needed. Everything you need to master the lesson is within you. Once you have truly learned a lesson, you will be presented with the next one. If you are alive, that means you still have lessons to learn.

• It is the duty of a student to get everything out of a teacher, and the duty of a teacher to get everything out of a student.

• If winning becomes too important in a game, change the rules to make it more fun. Changing rules can become the new game.

• Ask funders for money, and they’ll give you advice; but ask for advice and they’ll give you money.

• Productivity is often a distraction. Don’t aim for better ways to get through your tasks as quickly as possible, rather aim for better tasks that you never want to stop doing.

• Immediately pay what you owe to vendors, workers, contractors. They will go out of their way to work with you first next time.

• The biggest lie we tell ourselves is “I dont need to write this down because I will remember it.”

• Your growth as a conscious being is measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations you are willing to have.

• Speak confidently as if you are right, but listen carefully as if you are wrong.

• Handy measure: the distance between your fingertips of your outstretched arms at shoulder level is your height.

• The consistency of your endeavors (exercise, companionship, work) is more important than the quantity. Nothing beats small things done every day, which is way more important than what you do occasionally.

• Making art is not selfish; it’s for the rest of us. If you don’t do your thing, you are cheating us.

• Never ask a woman if she is pregnant. Let her tell you if she is.

• Three things you need: The ability to not give up something till it works, the ability to give up something that does not work, and the trust in other people to help you distinguish between the two.

• When public speaking, pause frequently. Pause before you say something in a new way, pause after you have said something you believe is important, and pause as a relief to let listeners absorb details.

College athlete suicide rate for 2022 already shatters previous years, as more data tie suicidal thoughts to mRNA injections

Mr. Thomas hanged himself in his off-campus apartment on April 26, 2010 at age 21. Scientists found that his brain showed early signs of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a condition that affects many football players due to constant high-impact collisions on the field. Mr. Thomas, however, had never been diagnosed with a concussion. CTE became a mainstream topic after the 2015 movie “Concussion” starring Will Smith.

Regardless, Mr. Thomas’ suicide was still shocking because of his age. It is also relatively rare for college athletes, particularly of Mr. Thomas’ stature, to commit suicide.

A 2015 study published in the peer-reviewed journal Sports Health analyzed the deaths of 477 college athletes from 2003 to 2012. There were 29 total suicides, and six suspected suicides among those deaths. Most of them (29) were men, and 13 of those were football players. Only six were women. Thus, about four college athletes commit suicide per year, with the vast majority of them being male. The study concluded that college athletes have a lower risk of suicide than the general population. Read the full study here.

That all being said, 2022 is already the most deadly year in history with respect to student-athletes and suicide. And of course, there is one coincidental common denominator this year.

Post-injection personality changes

We started the Virtue Signaling category on The COVID Blog™ because so many people seemed to change into nasty, vile vaxx zealots after their shots.

Mr. Jordan Hayes was one of the first observed cases. He was a typical liberal prior to his injections, but nothing outlandish based on his social media history. Suddenly he started calling the non-vaccinated “idiots and morons” in his final months before dying. Former Sex In The City actor Willie Garson is perhaps the most egregious case. He turned into a completely vile monster on social media after his injections before passing away. Then there’s Mr. Clint Bearden, who was diagnosed with dementia 10 days after his Pfizer injection.

Turkish doctors published a letter to the editor in the journal Brain, Behavior, and Immunity – Health in October 2021. They described two patients who developed “acute mania with psychotic features” 24 hours after the Pfizer mRNA injections.

The first patient was a 42-year-old man. He suffered from manic episodes one day after his first Pfizer injection. The man checked himself into a psychiatric emergency room five days later. Doctors said of the patient:

“[He] was anxious and the mood was dysphoric. He exhibited a loosening of associations, described persecutory and reference delusions and displayed a lack of insight.”

He was hospitalized for several days. But at his 15-day post-discharge checkup, he had no recollection of the symptoms that landed him in the hospital.

The second patient was a 57-year-old man. He complained of suicidal thoughts and “thoughts of extinction” just hours after his first Pfizer MRNA injection. He stayed in the hospital for seven days.

The doctors posited that the mRNA injections “damage the central nervous system via autoimmune mechanisms due to excessive production and release of pro-inflammatory chemokines and cytokines.” Their alternative hypothesis was that “vaccination may also lead to neuropsychiatric symptoms by damaging thiamine metabolism.”

While he projected a sober tone to the American public, McConnell privately was ecstatic, a new book about the 2020 election reveals. “I feel exhilarated by the fact that this fellow finally, totally discredited himself,” McConnell told New York Times reporter Jonathan Martin late on January 6, 2021 about Trump. Martin is the co-author of This Will Not Pass, of which excerpts were published in the Washington Post this week. Martin in the book recounts his midnight conversation with McConnell.

Trump, McConnell claimed, “put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger,” Martin writes. He then asked the reporter what he had heard about members plotting to invoke the 25th Amendment. Calling Trump a “despicable person,” McConnell reportedly bragged how he “crushed the sons of bitches” on January 6 and promised to do the same to them in the 2022 primaries.

Now, that seems like an oddly celebratory demeanor for someone who just survived an “attack on our democracy” and an alleged attempt to “overthrow” the seat of government power, doesn’t it? And why was McConnell so certain the four-hour disturbance would spell the end for Donald Trump?

Further—and more importantly—why did McConnell’s office fail to protect the Capitol on January 6?

His Sergeant at Arms at the time served on the U.S. Capitol police board, a four-man body that manages security at the sprawling Capitol complex. McConnell appointed Michael Stenger in 2018 to serve in that role; Stenger, in addition to his House counterpart, Paul Irving, rejected multiple requests by the Capitol Police chief for extra help in advance of January 6.

Steven Sund, a Capitol Police captain, said he spoke with Stenger on January 4, 2021 to ask for National Guardsmen. “Instead of approving the use of the National Guard, however, Mr. Stenger suggested I ask them how quickly we could get support if needed and to ‘lean forward’ in case we had to request assistance on January 6.”

He spoke with Stenger again on January 5; the board still refused to advance his plan for extra guardsmen.

As the chaos unfolded right as the joint session of Congress convened on January 6, Sund said he “notified the two Sergeant at Arms by 1:09 p.m. that I urgently needed support and asked them to declare a State of Emergency and authorize the National Guard.” Stenger and Irving, who were together that afternoon, said he was waiting for “authorization” by congressional leadership.

That approval came an hour later, but with a caveat: Sund also needed the Pentagon’s authorization.

“Almost two hours later, we had still not received authorization from the Pentagon to activate the National Guard,” Sund testified in February 2021. “Mr. Stenger offered to have Senator McConnell call the Secretary of the Army to expedite the request. I agreed that this would be a good idea. I followed up approximately 20 minutes later to check on the call and express the need for leadership to call to assist in expediting the request.”

Guardsmen did not arrive until 5:40 p.m., four-and-a-half hours after Sund’s first dispatch and after the protest had ended.

McConnell, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser—the three leaders responsible for protecting the Capitol on January 6—still have not explained their failure to do so. Not only did McConnell’s top law enforcement officials purportedly overlook the potential for violence on January 6, he denied requests for more officers days before and delayed sending guardsmen to Capitol Hill that afternoon.

And it will be nearly impossible to find out why: Stegner, along with Irving and Sund, all resigned on January 7, 2021.

So, perhaps there is a darker explanation for McConnell’s giddiness on January 6. What unfolded that day on McConnell’s watch ended Republican demands for an election audit; criminalized criticism of the 2020 election, which McConnell still describes as “fair” and legitimate; vilified Republican lawmakers; and prompted Trump’s second impeachment. McConnell also believed the protest would spell the end of the Trump movement, something the Beltway crony long attempted to quash.

Like the Biden regime, congressional Democrats, and the national news media, the aftermath of the Capitol protest achieved all sorts of political ends for Mitch McConnell.

And when it comes to January 6, there are no coincidences.
