Japan issues tsunami warning after major volcanic eruption

The tsunami follows a major eruption from an underwater volcano 65km south of the island nation of Tonga

A tsunami warning has been issued for Japan's entire east coast, as well as the southern Amami island and the Takara island chain.

A tsunami triggered by the undersea volcanic eruption has already hit the Pacific nation of Tonga and prompted multiple other nations to issue warnings, including the United States and Japan.

The eruption was so big it was seen from space.

Residents were warned to evacuate from coastal and riverside areas and seek higher ground for the early hours of Sunday, January 16, with waves expected to reach as high as three meters.

Some local media reported that tsunami waves had already reached the coast of Tohoku and Okinawa early Sunday.

British Government Used "Propagandistic" Fear Tactics To Scare Public Into Mass Compliance

The British government used “propagandistic” fear tactics to scare the public into mass compliance during the first COVID lockdown, according to a behavioral scientist who worked inside Downing Street.

Simon Ruda co-founded Number 10’s ‘Nudge Unit’, which was initially set up to encourage positive behavioral changes in the British public without the need for coercion or legislation, but was weaponized during the pandemic to create scaremongering.

“In my mind, the most egregious and far-reaching mistake made in responding to the pandemic has been the level of fear willingly conveyed on the public,” wrote Ruda.

“That fear seems to have subsequently driven policy decisions in a worrying feed-back loop,” he added, noting that such actions amounted to “state sanctioned propaganda.”

The behavioral scientist said that an obsession with daily case numbers came to dominate thinking, serving to spread even more fear.

That process included grossly exaggerating the threat posed by COVID and producing lurid, alarmist propaganda to frighten the population into subservience.

As we previously highlighted, scientists in the UK working as advisors for the government admitted using what they now concede to be “unethical” and “totalitarian” methods of instilling fear in the population in order to control behavior during the pandemic.

The London Telegraph reported the comments made by Members of the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Behaviour (SPI-B), a sub-committee of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) the government’s chief scientific advisory group.

The report quotes a briefing from March 2020, as the first lockdown was decreed, that stated the government should drastically increase “the perceived level of personal threat” that the virus poses because “a substantial number of people still do not feel sufficiently personally threatened.”

One scientist with the SPI-B admits that, “In March [2020] the Government was very worried about compliance and they thought people wouldn’t want to be locked down. There were discussions about fear being needed to encourage compliance, and decisions were made about how to ramp up the fear.”

Teachers Across France Stage Mass Walkout Over Govt's Ever-Changing COVID-19 Rules

Teachers across France staged a mass walkout this week in protest over the government’s ever-changing COVID-19 rules for those working in the education sector which they say fail to protect both staff and students.

The French Ministry of Education estimated that around 31 percent of all school teachers across the country took part in the strike on Thursday, 38 percent of whom worked in primary schools and nearly 24 percent in secondary schools.

A statement from the Mayor of Paris’ office said that in the capital city, roughly 58 percent of the teaching staff took part in the strike, and around 200 schools were forced to close, although trade and teachers unions put those figures much higher, at 75 percent.

The protests came as teachers across France are growing increasingly frustrated with the government’s ever-changing policies regarding the pandemic which has seen testing rules for children changed several times since the start of this year alone, oftentimes at the very last minute.

On top of that, educators say the government’s approach to the pandemic is failing to protect children or ensure replacement cover for teachers who are falling ill with the coronavirus. Unions are also calling on the government to provide more protective FFP2 face masks for staff as well as carbon dioxide monitors in classrooms so that they can ensure that they are sufficiently ventilated, as per The Guardian.

People most at risk from coronavirus can be identified with a simple genetic check, health officials say

The Polish Health Ministry is planning to introduce a new type of screening for coronavirus after a gene was discovered that determines the likelihood of a patient suffering from severe or fatal Covid-19.

People most at risk of suffering the severest effects or even dying of coronavirus can be identified using a genetic test, health officials in Poland revealed this week. The study that resulted in the discovery was supported by the country’s Ministry of Health and Medical Research Agency, and involved around 1,500 patients with Covid-19. Researchers from the Medical University of Bialystok identified a gene in chromosome 3 that significantly influences how badly the virus will affect an individual.

“After more than a year and a half of work, it was possible to identify a gene responsible for a predisposition to becoming seriously ill [with Covid],” Health Minister Adam Niedzielski said at a press conference on Thursday.

The findings will now be applied to help identify patients at increased risk from the virus when or even before they contract the infection. The Health Ministry plans to develop and launch a “relatively simple” and quick genetic test that can be performed alongside PCR screening within a few months.

It could also be implemented around the world to help people with apparent genetic preconditions, Polish officials said.

German Health Minister Supports Vaccine Mandate For All Adults

After weeks of warning that it was really planning to follow through with plans to make vaccines mandatory throughout German society, the German government just took one step closer to making the mandate a reality.

German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach said Friday that he would support a vaccine mandate for all German adults age 18 and up. Presumably, his feelings reflect those of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who has never hesitated to discuss his views on mandatory vaccination (he's in favor of it).

However, the government's support doesn't change the fact that a vocal minority of Germans are vehemently against mandatory jabs. And it's not just Germany: in neighboring Austria, authorities are resorting to arresting elderly women for going to the grocery store without showing their digital identity card.

As Germany pushes for even tighter restrictions on the unvaccinated, who have been demonized by Germany's leadership in recent weeks, German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach said Friday that he supports imposing a vaccine mandate requiring all German adults 18 and up to have at least their first two vaccine shots.

Lauterbach also said during his press briefing Friday that the German government hopes to "stretch out" the omicron wave to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed, but still he expects to reach "endemic stage" by the end of the year. Of course, that's what they said last year, too (although there were different people in charge back then). He also took a minute to slam the British: "had we followed the policies pursued by the British, we would have suffered twie as many deaths from COVID here in Germany," he said.

Keep in mind, the German government has already mandated N-95 masks, a policy that some places in the US have started to mimic.

Germany just recently became one of the first countries in Europe to approve COVID boosters for 12-to-17 year olds. The decision came as Germany reported 81K new COVID infections, a new daily record.

Fully Vaccinated Australians In Hospital For COVID-19 Surpass Unvaccinated

For the first time, New South Wales (NSW) has seen more fully vaccinated patients hospitalised with COVID-19 compared to the number of unvaccinated patients as the Omicron outbreak continues to edge toward its peak.

Data published by the NSW government’s COVID-19 Critical Intelligence Unit has revealed that as of Jan. 9, 68.9 percent of COVID-19 patients aged 12 and over in hospitals had two doses of the vaccine, with 28.8 percent unvaccinated.

The number of double-dose vaccinated patients in intensive care units (ICUs) also surpassed those of the unvaccinated, with 50.3 percent of the vaccinated presenting to ICU with COVID-19, more than the 49.1 percent who are unvaccinated.

However, based on the data presented, unvaccinated individuals appear to be six times more likely to be hospitalised and nearly 13 times more likely to be sent to ICU than those who are fully vaccinated.

This is considering that the number of unvaccinated patients appears to be over-represented in the figures—7.3 percent of the NSW population aged 12 and over at the time were unvaccinated, but they made up half of the COVID-19 ICU patients in the NSW Health system. At present, Australia does not permit alternative treatments, such as ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine, which are available and used in other countries.

According to NSW Health, 95.1 percent of people aged 16 and over have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 93.7 percent have received two doses as of Jan. 11.

The rise in the proportion of hospitalisations amongst the fully vaccinated comes both amid the spread of the Omicron variant of the CCP virus in Australia, along with the loss in the efficacy of the available COVID-19 vaccines.

A spokesperson for NSW Health told The Epoch Times on Jan. 11 that Omicron had supplanted Delta as the primary variant spreading in NSW, but that it also appeared to be less dangerous than its predecessor.

“The Omicron variant is associated with a lower rate of hospitalisation and ICU admission,” the spokesperson said.

While the state recorded 32,155 cases of the virus on Jan. 9, 2,030 were hospitalised, and only 159 had been sent to ICU. As of Jan. 12, the total number of cases has jumped to 53,909, with 2,242 hospitalised and 175 in ICU.

Mexican Drug Cartel Carpet Bombs Rivals With Drone

A modified consumer drone was used in a bombing raid on a rival drug cartel in Mexico on Monday. Video from the cartel-operated drone shows several bombs were dropped on a rival camp in a new turf war.

GOP gubernatorial candidate Andrew Giuliani was hit in the face with a flower pot as he tried to break up a fight near Penn Station.

The 35-year-old son of former Mayor Rudy Giuliani told The Post he witnessed a man and a woman having a violent confrontation last Saturday on 28th Street as he walked to a meeting with Gavin Wax, president of the New York Young Republicans.

The candidate said he heard the woman screaming “you leave me no money bitch,” shortly before the man took a swing at her. Giuliani said the man also threatened to “beat the s–t” out of him as he started calling 911.

Cops arrived on the scene about 15 minutes later and a police report was filed.

“There are no arrests at this time,” an NYPD spokesperson said. Giuliani said he was asked to look at a police photo array of possible suspects. He fingered one of them but told cops he couldn’t be 100% sure.

Locals in the area say the uptick in crime has been noticeable over the last five years. The incident was not far from where a violent perv slashed a man who confronted him about masturbating in front of his wife just days earlier.

Mayor Adams has promised to rein in violent crime and return law and order to city streets. But critics say his efforts will likely be frustrated by Manhattan’s new district attorney Alvin Bragg, who has said he will not seek jail time for a whole host of crimes.

“You don’t have to be a wizard to realize that if you don’t prosecute crime and you have no bail that criminals are going to be out and active,” Weisse said.

Treason: Former Danish Defence Minister Charged with Leaking State Secrets

Former Danish Defense Minister Claus Hjort Frederiksen has been charged with leaking state secrets just days after it was revealed the head of the country’s intelligence agency had been arrested.

Frederiksen confirmed the charges against him on Friday in a statement released by the Danish Liberal Party stating, “I can confirm that I have been charged under the Criminal Code article 109 for violating the limits of my freedom of speech. I have expressed myself as a member of parliament on a political matter and I have nothing further to add at this stage.”

The former defence minister went on to add that he would “never dream of doing anything that could harm Denmark or Denmark’s interests,” Danish broadcaster DR reports.

The broadcaster stated that Fredericksen had been appointed a lawyer earlier in the week and could face up to 12 years in prison for disclosure of state secrets, which falls under Denmark’s treason legislation, known as the “traitor clause.”

The exact details of the charges are not known but there is speculation that they may be related to a 2020 interview given by Fredericksen in which he seemed to confirm the existence of a secret spying programme in which Danish authorities work with the United States.

The existence of the spying programme was reported on last year by DR and other Danish media who stated that the Danish Defence Intelligence Service (FE) in coordination with the U.S. National Security Administration (NSA), had spied on Danish citizens and European leaders, including former German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The announcement from Frederiksen comes just days after it was revealed that the head of the FE, Lars Findsen, had been arrested and had been in police custody for around a month over allegations he had been leaking sensitive data along with other current and former FE employees.

Findsen, who allowed his name to be published in connection with the case, released a statement saying, “I want the charges brought forward and I plead not guilty. This is completely insane.”

The case against Findsen is also speculated to be connected to the FE and NSA spying allegations.

Belgium Strips Residency of Imam of Largest Mosque Over Security Concerns

The Belgian government has stripped the residency permit of the chief imam of the Al Khalil Grand Mosque in Molenbeek Mohamed Toujgani over concerns relating to national security issues.

Belgian Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration Sammy Mahdi announced this week that the government has stripped Imam Toujgani’s residency permit in light of concerns raised by the country’s security services who claimed that the imam showed signs of being a serious risk to Belgian national security.

The government has issued a notice for Toujgani, a Moroccan national, to leave the country and told him that he would not be allowed back in Belgium for the next ten years. According to Belgian media, the imam has already left the country, Sudinfo reports.

As Imam of the largest mosque in the entire country, Toujgani — who had been in Belgium since 1982 — was said to be highly influential in the Muslim community of Brussels.

He is said to have been a controversial figure for years, preaching for the burning of “oppressive Zionists” in 2009.

Despite living in the country for decades, Toujgani had never bothered to learn to speak French or Dutch, the two main languages spoken in Belglium.

Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration Mahdi commented on the matter, saying: “In the past, we have given radical preachers too much leeway. This man was probably the most influential preacher in Belgium. With this decision, we are making a difference and giving a clear signal: we will not tolerate those who divide and threaten our national security.”

The Brussels district of Molenbeek has been well-known as a hotspot for radical Islamic extremism throughout Europe for years. Notably, it was where 2015 Paris Bataclan terrorist attack participant Salah Abdeslam fled after his suicide belt failed to detonate.

Abdeslam, who is currently on trial in France in connection with the Bataclan massacre, stated in September that terrorists and Jihadists were “authentic Muslims” and told families of the victims that the attack was “nothing personal.”

Over the last several years, raids have led to the arrests of radical Islamic extremists in Molenbeek, including last July when a jihadist wanted by Spanish authorities was arrested in the area.
