FBI agent charged with attempted murder in DC subway shooting

An FBI agent has been charged with attempted murder for the off-duty shooting of a man on a moving Washington D.C. subway last year, according to court records unsealed Tuesday.

Eduardo Valdivia, 37, was indicted on several charges, including first-degree assault and reckless endangerment in connection with the Dec. 15, 2020 incident on the Metro Red Line train.

He turned himself in to local authorities at a Montgomery County jail on Tuesday morning, and was later released with no bail following an initial court appearance.

Authorities say that the agent fired several shots after exchanging words with a man who approached him on a train near Medical Center Station in Bethesda.

Valdivia had been on his way to work on the morning of the shooting, when the man asked him for money. After the agent said no, the man muttered expletives while walking away, prosecutors said in court Tuesday.

“Watch your mouth,” Valdivia allegedly told the panhandler, who then turned around and came toward the agent.

Valdivia told the man to back up multiple times before shooting him from 2 to 3 feet away, according to prosecutors.

The passenger was hospitalized with several gunshot wounds but survived. He had part or all of his spleen, colon and pancreas removed during surgery after the shooting.

In a 911 call released in January, a witness said the agent had warned the man to back away. But the passenger ignored the command and instead squared up for a fight, according to The Washington Post, which first reported on the charges.

“The FBI agent said: ‘Move away. I’m an FBI agent. Back away,’ ” the 911 caller said. “The other gentleman didn’t, dropped his bag, approached him to fight him.”

Robert Bonsib, a lawyer for Valdivia, said the other passenger had “engaged in threatening and aggressive behavior” at close range.

“One does not wait to be physically attacked — one does not wait until the threat has ’hands on you — before one is authorized to defend oneself,” Bonsib said in a statement.

Valdivia joined the bureau in 2011 and “has had an impeccable personal and professional background,” his attorney said.

Bonsib also filed documents showing the wounded man had a lengthy criminal history, including a 2019 incident in which he allegedly attacked and threatened to kill somebody at a Metro station.

A spokeswoman for the FBI’s Baltimore field office said the bureau was aware of the charges and is fully cooperating with the investigation.

“As is customary following a shooting incident, this matter will be subject to internal review,” spokeswoman Joy Jiras said.

Pastor Artur allegedly ASSAULTED while buying groceries with his daughter

Pastor Artur Pawlowski was celebrating his daughter’s baptism and birthday on Saturday. Shortly after we met with him for an interview, he and his daughter went to the grocery store to purchase a few essentials, and most importantly, a birthday/baptism cake. This should have been a routine trip, but the malice and anger that politicians and mainstream media have incited against Artur have made even his normal day-to-day activities a challenge.

You very likely saw that Pastor Artur’s property was subject to suspected arson a few weeks ago. He has also been subjected to threats, his church was vandalized — the list of abuses he has endured goes on, and that is before we even mention the horrific circumstances surrounding his arrest and imprisonment.

The malice towards Artur reached new and troublesome heights on Saturday, when a man approached Artur at the grocery store and began to verbally denigrate him in front of his daughter. Artur suspected the man might be suffering from mental illness, so he quickly paid for his goods and attempted to leave the store. Artur told us that as he was walking to his vehicle, the man charged at him, attacking him repeatedly in front of his daughter and punching him in the head. Artur is well-trained in martial arts, but the assailant was an older man. Artur feared he might injure him if he fought back, so he attempted to retreat repeatedly instead of striking. Artur photographed the attacker and his vehicle before the man left the scene.

Ultimately, Artur reported the incident to police, who asked if he would like to press charges. Artur requested that the man simply be issued a warning. He doesn’t want the guy's life turned upside down. Regardless of what he did, Artur forgave him.

Toronto hosts a deciding NHL Playoff Game 7 – and its first-ever vaccine-passport event

On Monday, the Toronto Maple Leafs hosted the Montreal Canadiens at the Scotiabank Arena in Game 7 of their opening round playoff series (spoiler alert: the game ended in traditional Hogtown fashion: the Leafs lost — and lost badly).

IG reportedly investigating $600+million no-bid contract with ties to former Biden staffer

The office of Department of Homeland Security Inspector General Joseph V. Cuffari is allegedly investigating recent contracts made by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Human Health Services. Endeavors Inc. recently signed two contracts to help the two departments house migrants.

Previously, all ICE revealed was that it was an $86.9 million deal that would provide 1,200 beds for families. These families spend less than 72 hours in these hotels at a time. HHS also has a contract with Endeavors Inc. for about $530 million.

In a series of letters, Republican lawmakers earlier demanded to know exactly which hotels are housing these families, including the meals and rooms provided to them. They also called for a full accounting of all expenses and all communications between the parties involved.

This contract is suspicious for several reasons, the members claimed. Among them, Endeavors hired a former ICE official and Biden-Harris transition team advisor as its senior director for migrant services and federal affairs right after the contract was finalized. It was also a no-bid contract. The three organizations had until May 27th to hand it all over. Now, according to sources at Fox News, the IG is investigating it himself.
