Donald Robbins Liem

Tempe - Donald Robbins Liem passed away July 29th, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was a great humanitarian and he made the world a better place. Don was born on February 12, 1933 in Morenci, Arizona to Henry A. and Gladys Johnson Liem and was the third of five children. In 1945, the family moved to Phoenix. Don attended Madison Elementary and North Phoenix High School where he met and later married Barbara K. Nasser. A graduate of Arizona State College, he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, Don was Vice President of the Student Body and was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. From 1956-1959 he served as Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, graduated fourth in his class from Navigation School and was honorably discharged as Captain. After military service, Don and Barbara and their two children, Scott and Tracy, moved to Tempe. He had planned to become a CPA, however his career took a different direction when he accepted a part-time job as a salesman with Knoell Homes and ultimately became vice president and partner. Don was regarded as one of the most respected sales and marketing directors in the home building industry. He co-founded the Sales & Marketing Council of the Central Arizona Homebuilders Association and the MAME awards. He was named Sales & Marketing Director of the Year in 1981, 1982, and l983. Don was a devoted civic leader, serving as Chairman of the Tempe United Fund, President of the Tempe Chamber of Commerce and a member of Tempe Rotary. His love of Tempe led him to found the Tempe Diablos, which supports educational programs benefiting youth in the community. He was instrumental in the Diablos becoming the official hosts of the Fiesta Bowl and national ambassadors for Tempe. But his greatest passion besides his family. He was supporting the Friends of the Orphans in Mexico. He fell in love with the children on his first visit to NPH (Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos) and went on to raise millions to benefit the organization which now has homes in 11 third world countries. He served as President of the Board from 1992-2002. He and Barbara also opened their home to students ready for college and are considered godparents of many former "pequenos." For his many contributions to benefit others, Don was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Tempe Jaycees, the Spirit of Tempe by the Tempe Chamber of Commerce and the Making a World of Difference award by Tempe Sister Cities. Don has left a legacy of giving and service. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara, their children Scott (Christy) and Tracy Murphy (Phil), five grandchildren: Lindsey Wahlberg (Troy), Laura Wilson (Aaron), Harrison Murphy, Joanna Stewart (Skyler) and Jessica Hedges (Brian); nine great grandchildren; and siblings, Kathryn Runbeck (Charles); Marjorie Dunbar (David) and Henry Liem (Tina). The family extends their profound appreciation to Patricia Rushing and her staff, Ophelia, Jocelyn and Johnston, for their undying love, care and devotion to Don during their time together; Dr. Monica

Court to weigh in on Mississippi abortion ban intended to challenge Roe v. Wade

The Supreme Court on Monday set the stage for a major ruling next year on abortion – one that could upend the Supreme Court’s landmark decisions in Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, in which the court ruled that the Constitution protects the right to have an abortion before a fetus becomes viable. The court granted review in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a challenge to the constitutionality of a Mississippi law that (with limited exceptions) bars abortions after the 15th week of pregnancy.

The decision to review the Mississippi law comes nearly a year after the court struck down a Louisiana law that required doctors who perform abortions to have the right to admit patients at a nearby hospital. In that case, five justices, including Chief Justice John Roberts, relied on Casey in ruling that the Louisiana law imposed an undue burden on the right to obtain a pre-viability abortion. But the make-up of the Supreme Court has changed since the ruling in the Louisiana case last June: One of the justices in the majority, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a staunch supporter of abortion rights, died in September and was replaced by Justice Amy Coney Barrett, whose personal opposition to abortion drew criticism from Democrats at her confirmation hearing.

When the Mississippi legislature passed the law at the heart of the case in 2018, Jackson Women’s Health Organization – the only licensed abortion provider in the state – went to court to challenge the law’s constitutionality and block the state from enforcing it. A federal district court agreed with the clinic, reasoning that the Supreme Court’s cases do not allow states to ban abortions before a fetus becomes viable, which occurs at around 24 weeks of pregnancy.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit upheld that decision, rejecting Mississippi’s argument that the Supreme Court’s cases required the district court to determine instead whether the law creates a “substantial obstacle” for a person seeking an abortion before the fetus becomes viable. There is no substantial obstacle, the state suggested, because a patient could decide to have an abortion before reaching the 15th week. But the Mississippi law is not merely a restriction on the availability of pre-viability abortions, the court of appeals stressed; it is a ban on pre-viability abortions. The law prohibits all abortions after 15 weeks except in cases of health emergencies or fetal abnormalities.

The state went to the Supreme Court last summer, asking the justices to rule on whether all bans on pre-viability abortions are unconstitutional. The state also asked the justices to weigh in on two related questions: whether courts should consider a state’s interests – such as protecting the health of a mother – when reviewing the constitutionality of laws that restrict pre-viability abortions, and whether abortion providers have a legal right to challenge laws that ban or restrict abortions on behalf of their patients.

The clinic urged the Supreme Court to stay out of the dispute, stressing that the Supreme Court has long held that the Constitution protects the right to terminate a pregnancy before the fetus becomes viable. The court should deny review of the question whether abortion providers have a right to sue, the clinic added, because Mississippi “waived this challenge — it was not raised below and the State, in fact, conceded jurisdiction and does so again in its petition.”

The justices repeatedly rescheduled the case – that is, put off considering it at their private conference – before finally considering the state’s petition for review for the first time at their Jan. 8, 2021, conference. The justices then considered the petition 12 more times before announcing on Monday that they would take up the first question presented in the state’s petition: whether all pre-viability bans on elective abortions violate the Constitution.

The case will be heard in the fall, after the justices return from their summer recess. It joins New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Corlett, another high-profile case already on the court’s docket for next term, involving gun rights. Before they leave for their summer recess, the court could add a third hot-button issue to its plate for the 2021-22 term: They are likely to decide at one of their conferences in late June whether to review a challenge to Harvard’s race-conscious admissions policy.

Bets Against Treasuries Build in Defiance of Uncooperative Data

A robust short base has formed in the Treasury market, expecting an economic recovery, and it’s willing to overlook data points that contradict its preferred narrative. “Investors seem to take the view that what matters is that the U.S. economy is recovering, rather than worry too much about the precise strength of the recovery at any particular moment in time,” Bank of America strategist Ralf Preusser said in a note. Positioning has become a “sea of uncertainty,” he said.

Response to the weak U.S. employment report for April, released May 7, was a case in point. Bank of America’s FX and Rates Sentiment Survey for May which polls 70-80 institutional investors who combined manage more than $1 trillion found that duration underweights increased over the month. Similarly, in JPMorgan’s Treasury client survey, short positioning is most stretched since 2017. Consistent with that, the Bank of America survey also detected a rising pain threshold for Treasury yields, with 51% saying the economy can tolerate a 10-year yield up to 2.25%, up from 47% in the April survey. A bearish stance on U.S. rates which Bank of America advocates also was reflected in the survey’s findings on when the Federal Reserve is likely to signal a reduction in the pace of its asset purchases. More than half expect it will happen by the central bank’s September policy meeting.

A similar mindset has been on display in the eurodollar options market, where last week’s stand-out trades included a large new position in Jul21 mid-curve puts targeting an increase in Fed hike premium priced into 2023 futures. The position was expanded during Monday’s session. Earlier this month, another large eurodollar position appeared to anticipate a significant policy shift occurring at the annual Jackson Hole conference in August.

Myanmar coup latest: US sanctions junta itself in latest move with allies

12:20 a.m. More on the 16 officials targeted in a new round of U.S. sanctions: Besides four members of the State Administrative Council the junta government the list includes key figures in carrying out Myanmar's economic and monetary policy.

One of them is Than Nyein, who was installed by the junta as central bank governor after the Feb. 1. Minister of Commerce Pwint San and Minister for Planning, Finance and Industry Win Shein have also been sanctioned, according to a Treasury Department statement. The list also includes two adult children of State Administrative Council member Gen. Maung Maung Kyaw and one of Adm. Tin Aung San. These two junta figures were themselves blacklisted in February.

Monday, May 17

10:30 p.m. The Biden administration has added Myanmar's State Administrative Council the body created by the junta to replace the ousted government to a list of U.S. sanctions targets.

"Today, the United States is announcing new sanctions against Burma's military regime in response to its continued violence and repression against the people of Burma, most recently in Mindat, Chin State, and its failure to take any steps to restore Burma's democratic transition," Secretary of State Antony Blinken says in a statement.

Sixteen officials have also been added to the U.S. list. Thy include technocrats and civilians in charge of economic ministries and the central bank, according to a Treasury Department statement. All property and interests in property of the persons named in the United States, or in the possession or control of U.S. persons, are blocked.

A U.S. analyst says it is "highly unusual to sanction the council as an entity but leave some names out including foreign minister."

The U.S. move is part of coordinated new sanctions actions with the U.K. and Canada. The U.K. announces sanctions on Myanmar Gems Enterprise, a state-owned firm now under the junta's control. Canada sanctioned 16 individuals and 10 entities.

6:00 p.m. The 2020 Myanmar general election reflected "the true will of the electorate," according to a final comprehensive report by The Asian Network for Free Elections, an international monitoring group, which counters the junta's allegation of electoral fraud. ANFREL says it hopes Myanmar will "soon return on the rightful path to an elected civilian government." The report, titled "The 2020 Myanmar General Elections: Democracy Under Attack," is available in English and in Burmese.

3:30 p.m. The Mindat People's Administration announces on Facebook that fighting between the Chinland Defense Force (CDF) a newly formed ethnic militia and the military is ongoing in the western state of Chin, bordering India. The administration is acting as the CDF's political unit. It added in its post that seven locals had been killed during the recent fighting. The State Administration Council, as the junta is formally known, declared martial law in the northwestern town of Mindat on Thursday.

U.S. oil futures end at highest in more than 2 years

Oil futures climbed Monday, with optimism that an economic recovery in the U.S. and Europe will lead to higher energy demand sending U.S. prices to their highest settlement in more than two years. Prices got a boost on "hopes that large parts of Europe will soon be able to follow the U.K. on easing restrictions further, thus driving up demand over the next few weeks," said Michael Hewson, chief market analyst at CMC Markets UK. June West Texas Intermediate crude CLM21, 1.30% rose 90 cents, or 1.4%, to settle at $66.27 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. That was the highest front-month contract finish since April 23, 2019, when prices settled at $66.30, FactSet data show.

France to lend Sudan $1.5 billion to pay off IMF debt, Germany offers assistance

According to Sudanese PM Abdalla Hamdok, the East African country's total debts amount to some $60 billion. France is hosting a conference of several African leaders offering to assist Sudan's transitional government.

France offered crisis-stricken Sudan a bridging loan worth $1.5 billion (€1.25 billion) on Monday to help pay its arrears to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), while Germany is also keen to participate in Sudan's debt relief.

The announcement was formally made by French President Emmanuel Macron, who is hosting a summit of several African leaders in Paris, seeking support for Sudan's fledgling transitional government. "Despite the difficulties, considerable progress has been made since the fall of the old regime," Macron said in his opening address. Hailing its transition as "an inspiration" and a "precedent," he said that the international community had a "collective responsibility" to help Sudan realize its goals. Alongside Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said: "This contribution demonstrates the strength of our partnership and the trust we have in Sudan."

Le Maire said the summit was an opportunity to bring the East African country back into the fold after being largely isolated for over 30 years. Sudan was ruled by former President Omar al-Bashir for three decades until he was overthrown after a popular uprising and military coup in 2019. The authoritarian leader was subsequently incarcerated, tried and convicted on multiple corruption charges. Civilians and the military have since formed a transitional government that has been widely welcomed. According to Hamdok, Sudan has outstanding debts of around $60 billion and its economic crisis has only been exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier this year, Sudan settled its debts with the World Bank thanks to a bridging loan from the United States. By clearing its debts with the World Bank and the IMF, Sudan is paving the way to receiving poverty-reduction grants, as well as a wider debt relief package from the global community. President Macron has called for a "New Deal" for African countries and therefore initiated two summits. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas was also present in Paris for talks over Sudan debt relief, as it was confirmed Berlin pledged $110 million worth of Sudanese IMF liabilities. Germany is also offering 390 million euros worth of bilateral debt relief.

Before departing for the French capital, Maas recalled the Berlin conference on Sudan last June, at which participants had pledged a total of $1.8 billion in aid. "Great hopes rest on the success of the peaceful revolution in Sudan," Maas said in a statement. "The political and economic reform process that has begun is arduous, but it offers a historic opportunity for more peace, economic prospects and freedom for the people of Sudan. Germany has stood shoulder to shoulder from the very beginning." Maas said Germany was prepared to "participate comprehensively" in the country's debt relief.

Last August, the government in Khartoum reached a peace agreement with rebel groups after a seventeen-year conflict. According to UN figures, some 300,000 people had been killed in the conflict in the western Sudanese region of Darfur since 2003, and around 2.7 million forced from their homes.

Buffett's Berkshire discloses stake in Aon, sheds nearly all of Wells Fargo

Berkshire Hathaway Inc said on Monday it has taken a $943 million stake in the insurance company Aon Plc and nearly dissolved a more than three-decade-old investment in Wells Fargo & Co. The changes were disclosed in a regulatory filing detailing Berkshire’s U.S.-listed holdings in its $282.1 billion equity portfolio as of March 31. Berkshire said it owned just $26.4 million of Wells Fargo stock. It once owned around $32 billion worth of shares in the fourth-largest U.S. bank.

Are Record-Setting Commodity Prices a Result of Demand or Futures Manipulation?

During the current month of May, 2021, the following commodities have all set record high prices: lumber, iron ore, steel and copper. The volatility in the price of lumber this month has looked not all that dissimilar to the crazy price swings in the shares of GameStop, which have been under investigation for months by the U.S. Senate Banking and House Financial Services Committees. Thus far, however, there have been no announced hearings into what is causing these wild moves in commodity prices.

From 2016 through 2019, lumber prices traded between $300 and $600 per 1,000 board feet. During just this month, however, lumber has spiked to as high as $1,733.50. It closed on Friday at $1,390. These skyrocketing prices in commodities are more than a little peculiar. The federal government believes that the economy of the U.S. is at such grave risk that Congress needed to infuse $1.9 trillion into the economy in a stimulus bill passed just two months ago. Just a year ago, GDP in the U.S. for the second quarter had plunged by 32.9 percent, a worse quarterly record than even during the Great Depression. The grave worry then was deflation.

All of these commodities that have been setting historic record prices have one thing in common: they all trade on futures exchanges owned by the CME Group.

On April 11, 2014, three traders, William Charles Braman, Mark Mendelson and John Simms brought a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois alleging that the CME Group was allowing “clandestine” contracts between the futures exchanges and high frequency traders and that potentially as much as 50 percent of the trades on the exchange are “wash trades.” Wash trades occur when the same beneficial owner is both the buyer and the seller. Wash trades, also known as wash sales, can falsely suggest volume and price movement.

CME Group is a publicly-traded stock and the traders in the lawsuit alleged that its motive for this conspiratorial conduct was as follows:

“The Exchange Defendants profit from the occurrence of wash trades and have a vested interest in not having more robust safeguards against them because they contribute significantly to the Exchange Defendants’ volume numbers and revenue. Were the volume of wash trades excluded from the Exchange Defendants’ volume and revenue numbers, the radically reduced volume numbers would exert adverse pressure on the CME Group’s stock price, not to mention the revenue to members of CME Group’s governance who have equity interests in participating HFTs [High Frequency Traders] in addition to stock ownership in the CME Group, Inc.”

The lawsuit also charged that the CME Group’s actions were effectively determining winners and losers, telling the court the following:

“Unlike the stock markets, commodity futures and option trading are ‘zero sum games.’ That is, the market actually has an offsetting loss for every gain in each commodity futures contract. The CME Group sold the foregoing products and exercised its monopoly power so as to enable the HFTs to achieve gains. For example, HFT firm Virtu Financial, Inc. disclosed in its SEC Form S-1 filed March 10, 2014 that it had experienced only one losing trading day out of the last 1238 trading days. In the zero sum game of commodity futures trading, the Class unnecessarily lost as a result of the guaranteed revenues.

The CME Group hired the powerful, Washington-connected law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP to represent it in court and the Judge, on December 3, 2015, granted CME’s request to dismiss the case on the basis that the plaintiffs had failed to state a claim. A careful reading of the Judge’s decision should raise a multitude of questions about just how fair-minded the Judge, John Robert Blakey, actually was.

The case was Braman et al v. The CME Group, Inc., et al. The Civil Docket for the case is #: 1:14-cv-02646.

Smart TV Makers Will Soon Make More Money Off Your Viewing Habits Than The TV Itself

"Smart" televisions have long been the poster child for the abysmal privacy and security standards inherent in the "internet of things" space. Such televisions have been routinely found to have the security and privacy standards of damp cardboard, making the data they collect delicious targets for hackers and intelligence agencies alike.

At the same time these companies have failed repeatedly to secure (or sometimes even encrypt) consumer data, their data collection revenue is positively exploding. Vizio, for example, recently noted that it made $38.4 million in one quarter just from tracking and monetizing consumer viewing and usage data. It made $48.2 million on hardware (both TVs, soundbars, and other products) in that same period, and that gap (if not already closed) is quickly closing:

"Its device business (the part that sells TVs, sound bars and the like) had a gross profit of $48.2 million in the same period, up from $32.5 million last year. While the hardware business has significantly more revenue, profits from data and advertising spiked 152 percent from last year, and are quickly catching up."

The problem researchers keep pointing out is not enough of that revenue is being put back into device security research and privacy standards, which is why Vizio, like most "smart" TV manufacturers, has been repeatedly caught in privacy scandals. Like that time it had to shell out $2.2 million to the FTC and NJ AG for failing to inform consumers this data was even being collected. By the time consumers got their share of that settlement, it wound up being about $20 per person. And it's not really clear anything would have happened at all if not for a 2015 ProPublica investigation into Vizio's lack of transparency.

The problem of course is that regulators, when they do bother to act, act half a decade after the fact, and only if a journalist exposes the problem first. Consumers then get a tiny pittance. And it shouldn't be too hard to understand how a $2.2 million fine for a company pulling down $38.4 million every three months off of consumer data alone probably isn't going to be an effective deterrent against future privacy abuses. It's viewed as just a light gnat on the nose and the cost of doing business.

Consumers do have a bit of control. They can disable a set's WiFi features entirely, even though in many instances doing so can disable core set functionality in obnoxious and unforeseen ways. Ideally I'd love to be able to buy a "dumb" TV that's just a great display with HDMI ports and no "smart" internals, but because consumer data is now so profitable, most TV vendors no longer even sell such an option.

It's also worth remembering that your smart TV is just one in a long line of systems collecting and monetizing your data, including the streaming hardware you're using (Roku, etc.), your ISP, any additional internet of things devices you've connected to your network, and even your energy company. While folks intent on downplaying modern privacy abuses often like to pretend this is the age of consumer empowerment, it's not really possible for consumers to "opt out" of data collection and monetization at the scale it's now occurring. Even with a lot of elbow grease, technical innovation, and external help.

Organizations like Consumer Reports have been pushing hard for improved efforts to warn consumers about potential privacy abuses at the point of sale, including them in product reviews and even on product packaging. And while their "open source" efforts on this front are really interesting, we're a long way away from this kind of transparency being the norm.

The use of fear to control behaviour in the Covid crisis was ‘totalitarian’, scientist group admits

Members of the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Behaviour have expressed regret about ‘unethical’ methods used to control behaviour in Covid crisis and admitted they should be considered ‘totalitarian’.

Scientists on a committee that encouraged the use of fear to control people’s behaviour during the Covid pandemic have admitted its work was “unethical” and “totalitarian”.

Members of the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Behaviour (SPI-B) expressed regret about the tactics in a new book about the role of psychology in the Government’s Covid-19 response.

The group warned in March last year that ministers needed to increase “the perceived level of personal threat” from Covid-19 because “a substantial number of people still do not feel sufficiently personally threatened”.

Gavin Morgan, a psychologist on the team, said: “Clearly, using fear as a means of control is not ethical. Using fear smacks of totalitarianism. It’s not an ethical stance for any modern government. By nature, I am an optimistic person, but all this has given me a more pessimistic view of people.”

The government has faced a barrage of criticism and been accused of ramping up the threat from the pandemic to justify lockdowns and coerce the public into abiding by them.

This claim is set to be examined by the forthcoming public inquiry into the pandemic response.

SPI-B is one of the sub-committees that advises the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage), led by Sir Patrick Vallance, the chief scientific adviser.

One SPI-B scientist told Ms Dodsworth: “In March [2020] the Government was very worried about compliance and they thought people wouldn’t want to be locked down. There were discussions about fear being needed to encourage compliance, and decisions were made about how to ramp up the fear. The way we have used fear is dystopian.

“The use of fear has definitely been ethically questionable. It’s been like a weird experiment. Ultimately, it backfired because people became too scared.”

Another SPI-B member said: “You could call psychology ‘mind control’. That’s what we do… clearly we try and go about it in a positive way, but it has been used nefariously in the past.”

One warned that “people use the pandemic to grab power and drive through things that wouldn’t happen otherwise… We have to be very careful about the authoritarianism that is creeping in”.

Steve Baker, the deputy chairman of the Covid Recovery Group of Conservative MPs, said: “If it is true that the state took the decision to terrify the public to get compliance with rules, that raises extremely serious questions about the type of society we want to become.

“If we’re being really honest, do I fear that Government policy today is playing into the roots of totalitarianism? Yes, of course it is.”

A federal judge is sending out signals he may take Twitter to task over its designation as a “private entity” after the platform banned a Massachusetts Senate candidate. In a recent memorandum filed by Judge Mark Wolf, he laid out that Twitter may be considered a state actor if government officials have compelled it to do certain actions.

This all stems from a case in which Dr. V. A. Shiva, who ran in the Massachusetts 2020 Senate election, had his Twitter account suspended for casting doubt on the results of the presidential election. He later filed a lawsuit claiming his account was deleted at the behest of employees working under Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin.

“The government of Massachusetts contacted Twitter and I saw that in a story…they were talking about the fact that I was supposedly spreading election misinformation, that’s their opinion, by sharing the fact that they deleted ballot images,” stated Dr. Shiva.

This could spell trouble for the heavily criticized Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. The act shields social media companies from lawsuits regarding the content published on their platforms, effectively allowing them to silence any forms of speech they want.

Dr. Shiva said the links between Twitter and the government are apparent, claiming Twitter has built a special portal so that government officials can flag certain tweets they take issue with for any reason. He noted this lawsuit is about more than politics. It’s about protecting the sanctity of freedom of speech.

“Our lawsuit goes beyond left or right,” he stated. “It goes to the heart of what this country is suppose to be about: freedom of speech. That’s what this country was founded on.”

The court hearing is set for May 20.

States are wise to turn down Biden's poison unemployment money

It is quite rare to see a state turn down federal money. It is rarer still to see states turn it down in the name of improving their own economies.

Fortunately, several states are now doing just that. Why? Because President Joe Biden’s economic stimulus is making what’s rational for workers irrational for the economy as a whole.

At this point, the fact is unavoidable: The Biden administration’s foolish decision to extend increased unemployment benefits through the summer is clearly retarding the job market’s recovery. It made sense to pay out something to workers in exchange for government restrictions on their livelihood. But the long-term extension of extra-generous benefits has turned all the incentives on their head. For too many workers, the increased benefit makes it at least as profitable not to work as it is to work. And how can you blame anyone for not working if it actually costs them money?

Don’t blame the workers. Do blame the White House that chose to frame their choice for them so irrationally.

And indeed — how short-sighted it was in hindsight. It is still May, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has now rescinded guidelines recommending mask-wearing in most contexts. Yet, the Biden administration has saddled the nation with payments for not working that will last straight into September, even though the virus’s spread has been arrested. That’s three-and-a-half more months of needless, counterproductive payments that are actually preventing the restoration of the labor market to pre-coronavirus levels.

Biden himself is in complete denial about the problem. "You can't refuse [job offers] and just keep getting the unemployment benefits," he said. But everyone knows this is a toothless provision in the law. Those on unemployment benefits need only make a token effort at finding work in order to keep the Biden-bucks a-coming. And as long as they're being paid so well, why should they do anything more?

This is why some states, already having seen enough, are taking matters into their own hands and cutting off the expanded benefits, even though that means giving up federal money. Meanwhile, some of them are even offering bonuses to workers who leave unemployment and take a new job. This is a good idea because incentives matter. The labor forces in these states, once the Biden administration is no longer there to offer them perverse incentives, will get back on the job.

States control unemployment benefits. In this case, they are reasserting control in order to bring residents off the sidelines whom Biden has given reasons not to work. All other states would be wise to follow the example of Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Wyoming. These states have now all set an early end-date for the increased unemployment benefits, some as soon as next month.

Embattled California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) will keep his state’s mask mandate in place until June 15, because science.

Out of no where the CDC last Thursday announced fully vaccinated people will no longer be required to wear masks indoors.

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said she’s just following the evolving science.

“We now have science that has really just evolved even in the last two weeks that demonstrates that these vaccines are safe, they are effective,” Walensky told Martha Raddatz.

Many Democrat governors caved following the CDC’s updated guidance on masks and lifted their state’s mask mandates.

But not California.

Newsom, who is facing a recall election for his disastrous lockdown policies and hypocrisy, is digging in his heels and keeping California’s mask mandate in place for another month.

Starting June 15, fully vaccinated people in California will not need to wear masks indoors or outdoors.

It is unclear how people will prove they are vaccinated, or if they will need to prove it.

Noted attorney Harmeet Dhillon said if anyone tries to make her show papers of her private health status in order to move about freely in public spaces, she will sue.

Arguments made:

We did not delete any files, Cyber Ninjas are incompetent and cant find the files because they do not knw what they are doing
