The U.S. securities regulator is considering measures to boost transparency around “short-selling” and equity derivative bets and to rein-in retail “gamification” following January’s GameStop saga and the meltdown of Archegos Capital, its new chair will tell lawmakers. Gary Gensler will testify before the House Financial Services Committee on Thursday, according to testimony published on the committee’s website, in his first appearance before Congress since he was sworn-in as Securities and Exchange Commission chair last month.

Habs no problem with it when done legally as not everyone can be successful-so naturally you would want to bet on the losers. Afterall, not everyone can be long in the market but listening to some of the comments surrounding this (espeically "stock anon" next door-total putz who actually beleives Musk should be the poster boy for this) they all seem to think that everyone MUST be successful and betting on any one companies demise is somehow un-American.

This is the system we have and since it never got fixed in 2008 (when they had ample chance to do so) will result in many taking sides long and short...you actually have a market this way.

The legal ramifications of naked short-selling need to be cleaned up (or actually enforced) as they were not and still allow this practice to continue literally unabated.

Coronavirus Update New York City: NY Yankees, Mets to reopen stadiums with different capacity rules

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the New York Yankees and Mets are reopening stadiums May 19 with different capacity rules for vaccinated and unvaccinated sections.

For vaccinated people -- normal seating with masks. Children under 16 can accompany.

For unvaccinated people -- 6 foot distancing with masks. 33% capacity in these sections.

US Space Command Closely Tracking Large Chinese Rocket's Out-Of-Control Fall To Earth

The Pentagon and US Space Command are said to be tracking a large Chinese rocket which is set to reenter Earth's atmosphere at some point this coming weekend, likely "around May 8th" according to the latest DoD statement. Crucially, the concern is that the falling rocket's debris could land on inhabited places and pose a danger to people below, given that it is among the largest ever launces to make an uncontrolled and high speed re-entry into earth's atmosphere. It's also the Chinese Long March 5B rocket's size - at 30 meters in length and weighing 22 tons - that poses the likelihood that an immense amount of debris could fall down to Earth's surface as opposed to be being burned up upon re-entry, as is typical with smaller rockets.

S Defense Department spokesman Mike Howard issued to following details in a Tuesday statement:

The rocket's "exact entry point into the Earth's atmosphere" can't be pinpointed until within hours of reentry, Howard said, but the 18th Space Control Squadron will provide daily updates on the rocket's location through the Space Track website. The rocket was used by the Chinese to launch part of their space station last week. While most space debris objects burn up in the atmosphere, the rocket's size — 22 tons — has prompted concern that large parts could reenter and cause damage if they hit inhabited areas.

This is something which, though very rare, has happened in the recent past. In May of 2020 a Chinese Long March 5B made a similarly uncontrolled re-entry which resulted in debris raining down on inhabited areas of the Ivory Coast. At one point during that 2020 incident it was feared the debris could fall over the North American mainland, but it had re-entered over the Atlantic with debris reaching the African coast, as photos at the time showing pieces of internal rocket components scattered across a village confirmed...

Currently Long March 5B rocket, which was launched on April 28 in order to send key components to China's new next-generation space station, is orbiting the globe about 15 times a day at up to 18,000mph. This means any tiny change in trajectory can drastically alter its final re-entry point.

One Harvard astrophysicist, Jonathan McDowell, has been widely quoted as saying there's very minimal risk that rocket parts could actually fall on people. "I don't think people should take precautions. The risk that there will be some damage or that it would hit someone is pretty small not negligible, it could happen but the risk that it will hit you is incredibly tiny. And so I would not lose one second of sleep over this on a personal threat basis," he said. The scientist added: "There are much bigger things to worry about."

Credit Suisse stops custodian service for some U.S. cannabis stocks - sources

Credit Suisse Group AG has told customers in recent months it will no longer execute transactions in shares of cannabis companies with U.S. operations or hold them on behalf of clients, a cannabis company executive and other industry sources told Reuters on Wednesday.

The Swiss lender was among a handful of banks that had been willing to buy and sell marijuana-related stocks for clients in the United States and hold those shares as a custodian. Credit Suisse declined to comment.

Cannabis remains illegal under U.S. federal law, even though many states have legalized its use. This represents a legal risk for investment banks working for companies that produce or trade the drug. Credit Suisse’s compliance and risk management procedures have come under scrutiny from investors and analysts after it lost at least $4.7 billion from the collapse of Archegos, an investment firm dedicated to managing the fortune of hedge fund veteran Bill Hwang, as well as the suspension of funds linked to insolvent supply chain finance company Greensill. The MSOS exchange-traded fund, which tracks U.S. marijuana stocks, has fallen by more than a fifth since early February. Several market players said they believed Credit Suisse’s actions played a role in the selloff. “(When) Credit Suisse pulled custodian (services) on cannabis stocks, a number of large investors in the space lost their ability to custodian the stocks,” said Abner Kurtin, Chief Executive Officer of newly-floated marijuana grower Ascend Wellness Holdings Inc. “That led to a significant selloff.”

A custodian bank holds customers’ securities for "safekeeping", to prevent them from being stolen or lost, while also collecting dividends and handling other corporate actions. It plays an important role in helping many investors to hold shares in companies.**

The weed industry has boomed over the last three years, as Canada and a succession of U.S. states, including most recently New York and New Jersey, legalized recreational use.

Credit Suisse shares are down over 20% so far this year, and the bank has said it is cutting its prime brokerage business, which caters to hedge fund clients, by about a third.

House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” that Facebook upheld its ban on former President Donald Trump because he was “pathologically” continuing to “endanger our democracy.”

Mitchell said, “I want to ask you about the decision by Facebook this morning. The oversight board acknowledging that Donald Trump created an environment it called a serious risk of violence on January 6 with his posts. They opposed an indefinite suspension of his accounts. The former president issued a statement in response saying that free speech was taken away from the president of the United States because of what he called the radical left lunatics are afraid of the truth. Is Facebook violating Donald Trump’s constitutional right to free speech?”

Schiff said, “No. The First Amendment protects Donald Trump and every American from the government regulating speech. It doesn’t say that private companies need to use their platforms to air patent falsehoods that endanger the country that incite insurrection. So no, I think Facebook is trying to have a consistent policy. At least its oversight board is trying to make sure that it is consistent in how it treats people.”

He added, “The President here is continuing to go out and push the big lie about the election, continuing, I think, to endanger our democracy by doing that. So he continues to make the case that he would violate the policies if they readmitted him. And I think frankly, pathologically, he is incapable of changing. So this is a temporary ban. It will likely be, if we are fortunate, a permanent ban because the president will not stop the lies about the last election or lies about the next one. He will incite people if that’s what’s necessary to suit his narrow personal interests. And that should violate any good corporate citizen’s policies.”

New Ad Slams Abbott For Attempt To Kill Bill Banning Child Gender Transitions, Genital Mutilation, Chemical Castration

Abbott is reportedly blocking a bill that would ban genital mutilation and chemical castration of children to please corporate America.

Multiple conservative activists in Texas inform National File that Texas Governor Greg Abbott is attempting to prevent H.B. 1399, which would ban child gender transitions – including chemical castration and genital mutilation of minors – from reaching his desk, and is pressuring Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan to prevent the bill from moving forward. A conservative activist group in Texas released a new ad slamming Phelan and Abbott for refusing to advance the legislation.

“There’s a bill in Austin to ban the gender transitioning of kids. The GOP leaders plan to allow this horrific practice to continue. Governor Abbott and House Speaker Greg Abbott want to kill the bill. By killing the bill, Abbott and Phelan would allow the butchering and chemical castration of children as young as 7 years old,” the new ad, which is currently airing on Texas radio explains. Dustin Burrows – who is in charge of the legislature’s calendar – for allegedly refusing to advance the legislation to a full vote. At press time, the legislature is still waiting for Burrows to assign a day to vote on the bill, despite it having a total of 45 sponsors.

Conservative activists in Texas have informed National File that Abbott is pressuring the legislature to stall the bill and keep it from coming to a vote before the end of the 2021 legislative session to appease large, politically left wing corporations who have come to Texas in recent years. Previously, former U.S. House candidate Chris Ekstrom told National File that “Abbott’s woke corporate cronies have decreed that we can’t be Texas anymore, and no one’s taken more money from them than Greg Abbott, no one in the country,” said Ekstrom. “Not even Joe Biden.”

Similarly, Abbott is reportedly pressuring a different state legislator to stall legislation that would make it illegal for employers to discriminate against employees based on their COVID-19 vaccination status. Without the bill signed into law, a Texas nurse claims she was fired for her refusal to get the vaccine, even though she has recently tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies that suggest she is currently naturally immunized from the disease.

GUNPOINT MEDICINE: Whitmer says freedom for Michiganders is contingent upon getting injected for Covid-19

Cruella de Vil, also known as Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, has ruled that the residents of her state will only be allowed to resume some kind of modified “new normal” once all of them agree to get injected for the Wuhan coronavirus (Covid-19).

As she pretended to get her own “second dose” of Pfizer’s mRNA injection in front of the cameras, Whitmer proclaimed that freedom and liberty for Michiganders are no longer contingent upon the rights delineated in the Constitution, but rather on her own whimsical feelings about when it is “safe” for them to be reinstated.

“On our path to vaccinating 70 percent of Michiganders 16 and up, we can take steps to gradually get back to normal while keeping people safe,” Whitmer bellowed.

Michigan Rep. Ben Frederick, a Republican from Owosso, revealed that in order for Michiganders to once again be “allowed” to work in person at an office, at least 55 percent of the state will need to get jabbed. In order to resume sports games conferences, banquets and funerals, at least 60 percent of Michiganders will need to get jabbed.

As for indoor capacity limits of all types, those will only go away once 65 percent of Michiganders have been injected, Whitmer declared. And face mask orders will only go away after at least 70 percent of Michiganders have had their DNA permanently reprogrammed with experimental gene therapy.

Democrats and Republicans have both betrayed the Constitution in exchange for tyranny

Concerning the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, Michiganders will only be “granted” their independence to gather with friends and family members if a majority of the state gets injected.

Just like Resident Joe Biden said, American freedom and liberty is now granted by Democrats based on obedience to Chinese virus restrictions and interventions. If Americans choose to go a different route for their health, then leftists like Biden and Whitmer will punish them with restrictions, possibly forever.

“This announcement is long overdue,” Frederick celebrated. “Having benchmarks we can work toward together is going to bring the hope and certainty that has been missing from our lives since this pandemic began.”

In other words, Frederick, a Republican, is excited that the Constitution has been scrapped and that Michiganders will now have to sacrifice their health sovereignty in exchange for getting a few of their basic rights back from Whitmer.

None of this would be happening, of course, were it not for Donald Trump’s “Operation Warp Speed” scheme, which brought us all Wuhan flu shots at “warp speed.” Refusing one of Trump’s injections could mean not being allowed to buy, sell or travel in the very near future.

Michigan is the only state that is currently forcing two-year-olds to wear a mask just like their older siblings and parents.

Whitmer’s tyranny, Frederick further gushed, will “allow families, communities, and our small business owners to track the progress our state is making, plan ahead and look to the future.

Meanwhile, nearly half of all Michiganders who received their first dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna mRNA injection series are not showing up for their second appointments. Many of them are apparently coming to realize that the jabs are deadly and that they want nothing to do with getting a second one.

“The best step in the right direction would be to get rid of her,” wrote one Breitbart News commenter about Whitmer.

“A true authoritarian through and through,” wrote another, noting that government officials do not have the authority to “grant” people rights, as these are guaranteed under the Constitution – meaning they are non-negotiable, even during a “health crisis.”

SYDNEY (Reuters) - China has drawn up plans to upgrade an airstrip and bridge on one of Kiribati's remote islands about 3,000km southwest of Hawaii, lawmakers told Reuters, in a bid to revive a site that hosted military aircraft during World War Two.

The plans, which have not been made public, involve construction on the tiny island of Kanton (also spelled Canton), a coral atoll strategically located midway between Asia and the Americas.

Kiribati opposition lawmaker Tessie Lambourne told Reuters she was concerned about the project, and wanted to know whether it was part of China's Belt and Road Initiative.

Louisiana House Passes Bill to Ban Private Funding of Election Administration

The Republican-controlled Louisiana House of Representatives voted 69 to 35 on Tuesday to ban the private funding of election administration in the state. The bill now goes to the Louisiana State Senate for consideration.

Several states, including Arizona, Georgia, and Idaho have recently enacted laws to ban the private funding of election administration. The Florida State Legislature passed a bill banning the private funding of election administration last week, and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is expected to sign that bill into law this week.

The language of House Bill 20, the bill passed on Tuesday by the Louisiana House, most closely resembles the language of the recently enacted Arizona law, which Phill Kline, executive director of the Amistad Project of the Thomas More Society, a public interest law firm, says is by far the strongest of the laws enacted so far in 2021 to ban the private funding of election administration:

No state or local official, including but not limited to a registrar of voters or a clerk of court, or agency responsible for conducting elections shall solicit, accept, use, or dispose of any donation in the form of money, grants, property, or personal services from individuals or profit or nonprofit corporations, for the purpose of paying costs related to conducting elections.

“This appears to be a complete prohibition for all government entities. If so, it is the most broad and encompassing legislation yet passed, indicating that the Louisiana legislature understands the danger of private interests managing US elections,” Kline told Breitbart News on Wednesday.

A report released by the Amistad Project of the Thomas More Society at a press conference on Wednesday alleged Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife made $419.5 million in contributions to non-profit organizations during the 2020 election cycle–$350 million to the “Safe Elections” Project of the Center for Technology and Civic Life (CTCL) and another $69.5 million to the Center for Election Innovation and Research–that, “improperly influence[d] the 2020 presidential election on behalf of one particular candidate and party.”

“The 2020 presidential election witnessed an unprecedented and coordinated public-private partnership to improperly influence the 2020 presidential election on behalf of one particular candidate and party. Funded by hundreds of millions of dollars from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and other high-tech interests, activist organizations created a two-tiered election system that treated voters differently depending on whether they lived in Democrat or Republican strongholds,” Amistad Project Director Phill Kline wrote in the report’s executive summary.

New Orleans City Business reported in October, “The nonprofit handing out the money across the nation, the Center for Tech and Civic Life, said 26 election officials across Louisiana applied for grants, with a total potential amount of about $7.8 million. Now, all those applications have been withdrawn after [Louisiana Attorney General] Landry’s intervention.”

Republicans have a 27 to 12 majority in the Louisiana State Senate.

HSI seeks help identifying potential victims of ex-preschool teacher convicted of child exploitation

SAN DIEGO — Special agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) are seeking the public’s assistance to identify potential victims of a former preschool teacher convicted of child exploitation.

Paul Torres Jimenez De La Cuesta, 29, of Imperial Beach, California, pleaded guilty April 5 to distribution of images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

In June 2020, HSI Oceanside agents discovered Torres was trading child sex abuse materials (CSAM) via online chat groups. On June 11, 2020, special agents arrested Torres at his place of employment in Poway, California, after a federally executed search warrant of his electronic devices revealed the presence of CSAM.

At the time of his arrest, Torres was employed as a preschool teacher at the My Room to Grow Preschool in Poway. An HSI investigation revealed that Torres had been previously employed either full-time or as a substitute teacher at the following San Diego schools:

This investigation was conducted under HSI’s Operation Predator, an international initiative to protect children from sexual predators. Since the launch of Operation Predator in 2003, HSI has arrested more than 25,000 individuals for crimes against children, including the production and distribution of online child exploitation material, traveling overseas for sex with minors, and sex trafficking of children.

HSI takes a victim-centered approach to child exploitation investigations by working to identify, rescue and stabilize victims. HSI works in partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), ICAC partners, and other federal, state, and local agencies to help solve cases and rescue sexually exploited children. Heritage Action for America earlier this year "launched its first-ever state advocacy campaign to secure and strengthen state election systems, with an initial investment of $10 million and a commitment to devote whatever funding it takes to accomplish its goals," according to a press release. The Amistad Project of the Thomas More Society has engaged in election integrity-related litigation. "Election integrity is a hallmark of freedom and should be a non-partisan, wholly American value," Ellis said. "The Election Integrity Alliance's mission is to support Congress, the state legislatures, and the voters and together, continue building a more perfect Union," she said.

Washington state now has vaccine passports, thanks to Governor Jay Inslee. He won’t call them vaccine passports because it’s politically unpopular. But under his newly unveiled guidance, Washingtonians would have to quite literally show their vaccine papers to enjoy special privileges or basic rights like the public education you’ve paid for.

Under the power of the state, the Inslee administration is encouraging private organizations and religious institutions to create vaccinated-only sections in their venues. Inslee is not merely promoting vaccine segregation; he’s even forcing people to use separate entrances when entering venues.

Inslee is even allowing public and private schools to mandate its students get vaccines, even though college-aged students have less than a 0.1% risk of death from COVID.

Inslee announced the right for private businesses and religious institutions to create vaccinated sections as a roundabout way to incentivize vaccinations.

Under the guidance, individuals must provide a vaccine passport to the venue with the vaccine-only section. The vaccine passport may come in the form of a vaccine card, which must include your name, type of vaccine received, and the date of the last dose administered. You can also show a digital photo of the documentation.

For spectator events, outdoor facilities can create vaccinated sections until their total capacity reaches 50% maximum or 22,000 people, whichever is lower.

Inexplicably, you must still wear masks, even though you’re outdoors and surrounded by fully vaccinated people. Inslee is not following the science. He doesn’t understand it…..

Separate entrances for the vaccinated

Strict rules govern vaccinated-only sections at events under Inslee.

You must provide your vaccine passport “upon request at any time,” according to the guidance. To be considered fully vaccinated, you will have had both shots of Pfizer or Moderna or the single Johnson and Johnson shot at least two weeks before attending the event in the vaccine-only section….

The sections aren’t only segregated by vaccination status. You have to enter separately, too….

Amazon founder and outgoing CEO Jeff Bezos, the richest person in the world, sold $2.5 billion worth of Amazon shares on Monday and Tuesday, according to Securities and Exchange Commission filings. Accounting for taxes, Bezos will net $1.9 billion, Forbes estimates. Bezos’ is now worth an estimated $192.6 billion, meaning that the e-commerce tycoon keeps his spot as No. 1 richest, ahead of LVMH’s Bernard Arnault and Tesla’s Elon Musk.

The transactions mark the first time Bezos has sold Amazon shares this year, though he is known to regularly cash in at least $1 billion from stock sales annually. Last year, he sold more than $10 billion of his Amazon stock across three batches of sales in February, August and November.

In total, Bezos sold nearly 740,000 shares of Amazon this week at stock prices ranging from $3,274 to $3,485 per share, according to six new documents filed with the SEC on Wednesday evening. The transactions are part of a predetermined plan to offload company stock, according to the filings. That leaves Bezos owning close to 52.5 million shares of Amazon, a 10.4% stake in the company. He told reporters in 2017 that he had been selling $1 billion worth of shares per year to bankroll Blue Origin, the space exploration company he created. It’s not clear if the sales this week are also intended to fund Blue Origin, which today began an auction for one seat on its first commercial flight, currently scheduled for July 20. Earlier this year, Bezos announced in a letter to employees that he would step down as CEO before the end of 2021. As part of the announcement, he said he would shift his focus to his other businesses, including Blue Origin and The Washington Post, and philanthropic efforts such as the Day 1 Fund and his Bezos Earth Fund, a $10 billion commitment to fight climate change.

A representative for Bezos did not respond to a request for comment at the time of publication.
