Port of Corpus Christi Head Abruptly Resigns

HOUSTON, May 16 (Reuters) – Sean Strawbridge, chief executive of the Port of Corpus Christi, the largest U.S. oil-export port by volume, resigned on Tuesday, the port operator said without providing any explanation.
Strawbridge, who was the port’s chief operating officer before taking over the top role in 2018, did not immediately reply to requests for comment.
During his tenure, he helped the port obtain federal funds to support a dredging of its ship channel to bring larger oil tankers to its docks.
Strawbridge had spoken a day earlier at the port at an event celebrating the future of energy and the port’s emergence as an export hub for liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Spokespeople for the Port of Corpus Christi said he had resigned but declined to provide any additional information or comment on a potential successor.
Under Strawbridge, the port’s operating revenue grew 76.5% to $162.3 million from 2017 to 2022, according to annual budget summaries, while operating expenses climbed 29%.

Memetics is a study of information and culture. Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts are among 11 senators who are urging the president to take advantage of the amendment to avoid the US defaulting on its debt.

How could a 145-year-old change to the US Constitution that gave citizenship to former slaves serve as a path out of the debt ceiling drama? Government officials and legal authorities are divided over whether it does.
Some experts, including Laurence H. Tribe of Harvard Law School, point to Section 4 of the amendment as the basis of their argument that the president has the authority to order the nation's debts be paid regardless of the debt limit Congress put in place more than 100 years ago.

Twenty-one states, plus the District of Columbia, have legalized recreational marijuana for adults as of April 2023. And while marijuana is still illegal at the federal level, 88 percent of adults think it should be legalized for medical and recreational use, according to an October 2022 Pew Research Center survey—a significant increase from 1999’s 31 percent.
Additionally, 55 million Americans currently use marijuana, and 45 percent of the population has tried it at least once, according to the National Center for Drug Abuse Statistics.
But as attitudes and state laws change regarding marijuana—and its use increases—reports of marijuana laced with substances like the synthetic opioid fentanyl, are also increasing.
“One of the trends that we saw secondary to the pandemic was individuals stopped reporting opioid use as their primary drug of choice, and it seems to be replaced with marijuana and methamphetamine,” Teresa Russell, the director of criminal justice outreach in Dayton, Ohio, told The Epoch Times. Russell works between the county jail and community health and treatment facilities.
Russell explained that when someone is booked into the jail and needs to detox, they’re asked about drugs they’ve taken and must take a urine drug screen. Russell said it’s becoming increasingly common for someone to say they’ve only used marijuana but then pop positive for fentanyl.
